Looks like everyone except Japan has been done getting Tales games for a long time, so I couldn't care less, really.

Never too much.
Unless all that too much comes from one person (they fat)... or there's too much ugly boobage.

They just treat English fans like crap, really. Atlus and XSEED have offered to localize Tales games several times, but nooooo, Namco turn them down even though they have no plans to localize the games themselves. Probably because they think "THOSE FILTHY GAIJINS CANNOT HAVE OUR TALES GAMES"
Incidentally, we don't get any SRW games either. But we do get the putrid garbage like Muscle March.

for SRW there was several lincensing issues almost impossible to solve... expecially with a niche market.
I'm a huge Tales of fan, don't blame Tales Studio they have nothing to do with Bamco suicide Marketing moves

I'm not talking about all the SRW games, I'm talking about the OG series. Atlus even offered to localize the PS2 Original Generations game since they'd already worked on the GBA versions, but Namco turned them down flat.
I'm not blaming Tales Studio for anything, how did you get that from my posts?

I'm half sad as Tales of Phantasia is a pretty big part of my childhood and was the first game I imported all on my own (doing odd job for people in the neighborhood I earned the 100$ for it) I still have the whole box and its in mint condition because it's among my favorite RPGs of all time.
That said I despise most other Tales games. They rely too heavily on the "chosen one" storyline with very little change to the main characters' personalities. The few decent new age Tales games that were released in the US weren't even localized by Namco. In terms of Namco RPGs many of the most memorable ones were brought over by Sony or Nintendo with Microsoft even doing their part.
In short its they own damn fault. I doubt they'll close the studio down but the reason they can't compete with Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy is because they just don't put in the same amount of polish

Personally, I get sick of the games being too wrapped up in their plot. Sure the combat's usually good, but for Symphonia and Abyss especially, the storyline feels a little bit too obtrusive at times (although I still need to do a proper replay of Abyss to verify this). The stories can be good, but I really don't want to hear all the little technical details that tend to accompany it, especially during multiple playthroughs. I guess that's part of the reason why Eternia is my favorite Tales game; sure the story's a bit on the simple side, but it tends to take a backseat to the gameplay, which is one of the best in the series (in my opinion, of course).

RESPECT KNUCKLES The only tales game I've ever enjoyed was Phantasia.. to the point that I own one copy of every release of it, have played through it, and have enjoyed it each time. I played the SNES version with the fan translation first and in an amazing turn of events, I actually enjoyed playing the PSX port in pure Japanese even more (at the time I didn't know enough Japanese and hated the guess work of playing through untranslated games). Maybe I would've enjoyed Destiny. I never played it.. but all the ones since then were trying too hard to have the narrative of an anime series. Phantasia was simply stated and well done. I haven't liked all the extra writing they've put into each update. But Symphonia (which I only played due to its ties to Phantasia) and Abyss I didn't enjoy as much. Abyss I especially felt like I should just be watching a damn anime instead of trying to play the game... and then an anime came out for it! Go figure. And don't get me started how everyone in that cast just had to have a dark and mysterious secret. I might've actually finished the game had Guy actually been a completely normal dude who was good with a sword, liked to travel, and had a fear of women just to offset the rest of the cast. If another Tales game is never made, nothing of value is lost to me.

I really liked Abyss. I had been hoping Vesperia for PS3 would be released over here but it seems Namco has no intention of doing so. Same with Graces for the Wii.

I just realized I forgot to pre-order Narikiri Dungeon X.
If I'm not mistaken Microsoft does have some rights to the translation of Vesperia, it may be a time thing but considering Namco-Bandai's extremely lazy stance on localization I wouldn't count on it. Graces however has a shot Nintendo may step in and localize it themselves. (Baten Kaitos: Origins, Dragon Quest 9, Tales of Symphonia etc)
lol and yes Respect to you too.

I've gotta chime in and agree with the Phantasia sentiments. I happen to own 7 Tales games, a mix of imported and otherwise, and I have only beaten but 2 of them. Symphonia got me into the series and I enjoyed it well enough, and continued to buy games from there. I beat no other, besides the PSP port of Phantasia , and that was the last game that I bought from the series. Lo and behold, I'd say it's definitely got a placeholder in the halls of classic RPGs.
If I had the drive to go back and finish Rebirth - which we never did see in english - I'd probably say that's another one well worth playing, too. Sadly, despite being about 25 hours in, I've just had it on the back burner for too long (4, 5 years?) and don't want to start an import game over again or try to catch myself up on what was happening. It's quite an arduous process when your reading comprehension is close to nil. Shame that life circumstances drove me away from the game at all, I would've liked to have finished it. Maybe someday!
As for the news in question... Despite my less than great completion track-record with Tales, I would have bought Vesperia PS3, honestly. I'd love to get my hands on Graces, too. But they keep throwing games on different arbitrary consoles that I don't have with each new release and not releasing the goddamn ports outside of Japan. So I'm not happy, nor really surprised given the rate at which they churned these games out.

Seems like I somehow managed to post this in the wrong topic before. >_>
I've only played the GBA version of ToP, maybe that's why I don't understand when people say it's the best in the series. I mean, it probably had the best story, but the gameplay was choppy and unresponsive and... ugh.

I could never get the SNES patch to work properly, my emulator would always crash when trying to open a treasure chest with an important item in it. Thus, when the GBA game was announced for the US I was pretty ecstatic, enough to even look past their bastardization of the names. Frankly, I found it to be unplayable still. I don't think the game looked or felt very good on the GBA at all. Found the PSP version sitting in a used game shop one day, just waiting for me to buy it, so I did. I managed to acquire the translated script for the PSX version from a very generous person and played through with that. Easily the best looking and most immersive ToP experience, I'd say. The voices are great, story is great, battle system flows wonderfully. Zero complaints.

Yeah, I'd love to play the PSP version, but of course it didn't get localized. Sadly, using a script and having to read from that during cutscenes completely ruins it for me, so if that's my only option I'd much rather not just play at all.
But there are patches for the PSX version as well; I'm gonna try that someday assuming the new PSP version doesn't get localized either. Which it obviously won't.

Most people say that Phantasia is either the best in the series or the worst in the series. Your mileage may vary. A lot.
