I really ought to play the Baten Kaitos games now that I have a Wii. I'm not generally too big on card game RPGs, but the fact that they're by Monolith Soft has always made them interesting to me.

They don't really feel card-ish though, at least the second game doesn't. DEFINITELY play the first one first though, Origins makes Eternal Wings' battle system feel really obsolete

I always kind of got the impression that it was one of these card games where a lot of focus was put on building and fine tuning your deck, which I'm not all that interested in. That's a bit more exciting, then! Though either way, I'd like to give them a shot. A good friend with similar tastes to mine had a lot of praise for the second game in particular. I'm kind of picky about playing games in order, so I had no intention of doing otherwise. Though Origin is (as its name suggests) a prequel, isn't it? I remember reading an interview recently with the director for Baten Kaitos 1 and 2 where he said he was working on a secret project! Maybe a third game is in the works? (Hee, I was so sure that I wrote the plural of Origin instead of the singular, and went back to edit it. Yet somehow it still wasn't right. I tried to edit it again and...no luck. I didn't clock for ages that it'd be a word filter installed to ensure correct spelling of Ys Origin. I love this forum~ ^^)

No Fai, you were right the first time. It (BK: EW, anyway) IS a card game with high emphasis on deck-building, and it's incredibly annoying to boot. I don't see why anyone else even *likes* the battle system, when it's so clearly up to the luck of the draw and your "skill" at building OMG card decks. Seriously, I have a sword -- what do I need these damn cards for?! The story seemed okay but I gave up during the second disc, so I don't know how it ends. The best part of the whole game? It's a tie between the music and the graphics. It's a very... very artsy game.

Ooh, THAT's what you meant by 'feels like a card game'. In that case yeah, there is a lot of micromanagement. It's cool though because the actual flow of the battle feels like a real fight instead of a card game. It does have some interesting twists in regards to the cards though, performing certain moves back to back can either spawn new cards or do special attacks

So not long after tales of financial woes about Bamco's Tales division, the company poops out 3 more games (well, 1 is a port). This gets me wondering -- why exactly does Bamco US not localize the games more often? Is it investment/time vs. profit issue or do they ignore them for the sake of ignoring?
I mean, there's obviously a market in the non-Japanese, non-Asian community. I think they should try to at least do the DS games cuz I figure they are less expensive to do.
I suppose I'm sounding like someone that WANTS more Tales games to be in English but I really, honest to God, do not care. I'm just really curious to what factors could be leading Bamco US to keep skipping over the games ... or at least, keep focusing on the console versions when they DO localize them.

You say this like you expect them to make decisions based on logic. Did you know that Tales of Abyss was released at the same time was FFXII? Whoever runs that company is devoid of common sense. Anyway, yay, more games we won't be getting in English. I'm so excited.

Tales of Neverdeath has a nice ring to it, haha.
If anything, I do like hearing that the next one they intend to develop for the PS3 initially. Guess it's time the triple had its "exclusive" (a term I'm using rather liberally here), since they've developed for every other friggin' platform on the market.

It'd only be fitting if an expanded version got released on the 360 later

Man, I hope you guys at XSEED get an OK on Localizing those, as I always wanted to play the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia. I have the 360 version and I really like it a lot but being able to play the PS3 with the cameo costumes, additional Characters (Pattie & a playable Flynn), plus an updated story would be totally groovy. Of course there's also the other Tales games and I'd love to play those. Like, I REALLY wish we could have gotten the Tales of Phantasia Full Voice Edition in NA, I LOVE Tales of Phantasia. It's my second favorite Tales game, the first being Symphonia. Also, why stop at just the PSP & PS3 ones? why not also do the DS ones? BUT, I'm getting ahead of myself here. I should keep my enthusiasm down until there's news of it actually happening.

Jeez, I wasn't serious about the explaining thing. D:
But yeah, it'd be a miracle to actually get it from Namco. ;_;

Yeah, never was quite sure on why the hell Bamco US ignored all the DS ones but did the Radiant Mythology games on the PSP. Less to translate maybe?

Yeah, never was quite sure on why the hell Bamco US ignored all the DS ones but did the Radiant Mythology games on the PSP. Less to translate maybe? It's simple. It's Bamco. They missed good opportunities. The DS games could have done well, because... well, the DS's popularity is huge. And then with Vesperia PS3 and Graces, despite so many fans begging for those games, they just ignore them and opt to release... Muscle March.

I'd defend Muscle March if it wasn't ruined by the fact it has no simultaneous multiplayer.
Watching one friend striking poses to Dogi through walls is one thing, watching everyone do it at the same time is a party
