I am new to all this and was wondering, is there such a thing as Ys I and II Complete that runs on American computers? Or is that what the patches are for? I read somewhere that the version that comes in the blue box can run on American computers, but the one in the gold box cannot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Any Falcom computer game that was released for Windows can run on an English Windows system. The issue is, of course, the in-game language. Anyway, here's the info for Ys I.II Complete: www.ysutopia.net/projects/yscomplete/First, let's clear a few things up... This translation project applies to the 2001 Ys I&II COMPLETE Edition Set for PC on CD/DVD-ROM format releases. That includes the Limited Edition which is both YsI&II packaged together, and the separate "XP" releases for Ys I Complete and Ys II Complete. It doesn't apply to any older releases of Ys I or II released around and after '98 branded "Eternal..." So long as "Complete" is somewhere in the packaging's name, my patches apply.

Hi again, I just received an email back from Falcom regarding my request to order Ys I and II complete. Here is an excerpt from their email:
*This game is only for Japanese edition Windows. A game may not work if you don't have Japanese Windows. Approve it in advance.
Will the patch help me here, or am I just out of luck if I don't have Japanese Edition Windows?
Also, they are asking me to send my credit card information by email, but I am unwilling to do this since it isn't secure. Has anyone had any luck ordering from Falcom by any other means than by email? I called them and asked if anyone spoke english, but the person on the other end just said "No." I have been using Google Translate to write them emails in Japanese. They didn't respond to my English emails. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

And I'll back that up. You need to order via email and you have to send your credit card information but I've never had a problem, ever. And yeah, their PC games will work just fine on a non-Japanese version of Windows, you just have to make sure you can display Japanese text properly (there's a couple options, it depends on what you're running).
Also, if you can't understand Japanese well enough to write the questions yourself I'd suggest writing your emails to Falcom in English. They will respond within a day or two and you'll just confuse them by trying to run your questions through an online translator. Seriously, that doesn't work.
