Apparently because I love Tatsunoko Vs Capcom's simple control scheme with the WiiMote, I have no skill. I hate fighting games, commands never go in right for me. I'm basically pulling an Angry Video Game Nerd. "QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD AAAA MOTHERFUCKER AAAA" 'cause that doesn't work for me. Might be my big thumbs.

It's really too bad that Litchi got the OP stick in CS, I really love her fighting style in CT. Shooting the staff, getting in some wicked combos, and then activating The Four Winds never gets old.

I gotten Top 2 with most wins with Carl on BBCS. Are you on XBL or PSN? I know a Carl player on PSN always crying about how he never sees another Carl and I'd love for you to woop his ass

I am on PSN. My xbox live account is expired way long ago and I am way too cheap to renew it.

I am on PSN. My xbox live account is expired way long ago and I am way too cheap to renew it. Awh. Too bad I got a verbal slap in the face from a local barcade owner and an unfortunate look into his thoughts on gamers. Portland has a retro gaming expo coming up and this place was going to supply several arcade cabinets for the freeplay game room. Among them was the long-missed Neo Geo 4 slot they used to have on the floor. I shared my enthusiasm over it having the best selection games that the arcade had available: KoF 98, Shock Troopers, Blazing Star, and *eyeroll* Metal Slug 3. He and an employee ask what's wrong with Metal Slug 3 and I respond nothing really. It's a great game, but not fun at all to play for score or 1cc. He responds with "Oh, you're one of those guys. Who plays games for score, anyhow?" Given the number of Pinball tournaments and arcade world record holders in the Pacific Northwest, I hoped that was a gentle ribbing at my expense but still the fact he'd say that angered me (and a friend who holds the world record for Shock Troopers when I recounted it to him) I barely bit back on retorting with "sorry that I actually play classic games for a fun and not just as a hipster fashion statement"

I dunno, playing for score or 1cc seems to be playing for bragging rights, rather than fun. Playing for fun means you never look at the score or pay attention to the money you put in -- you just play and enjoy until you've grown bored of it, then move on. That's MY approach to arcade games. And I'm guessing the barcade owner's approach, as well. -Tom But sometimes you don't get bored of it because it's that fun of a game. So you seek new ways to enjoy the game. It's not like I find a new game right off the bat and say "well shit I'm gonna 1cc this". That's for after I've beaten it several times in many different ways. Then, much like sequence breaking in Metroid, you seek out new ways to enjoy the game. When a game can be enjoyed on multiple levels like that, it means it is deep. With classic arcade games, the gameplay is already simply defined and repetitive, so it's natural that people who like the game gravitate towards playing for score. Basically the owner pulled a reverse "stop having fun, guys" where instead of the hardcore player telling a lesser-skilled player to stop having fun and play for real, it was a lesser-skilled player telling the hardcore player to stop having fun. At no point did I tell him to stop having fun just playing games leisurely.

I agree with Wyrd for once, especially in regards to Metroid games. I actually like challenge in games, but not if it's just aiming for a high score. I want something you can actually complete, like a Nightmare difficulty or a strong optional boss, but with scores you can just keep going forever and forever, so I'll never get that "hell yes, I did it, I completed it!" sense of satisfaction.

I'm pretty good at a few old arcade fighters IN THE ARCADE (( King of Fighters 97, 98, etc. )) but I'm not good at them at ALL on consoles.
I just need an arcade stick I guess.

but with scores you can just keep going forever and forever, so I'll never get that "hell yes, I did it, I completed it!" sense of satisfaction. That's exactly how I feel. However, I'm no stranger to playing through games again even when I've already gotten through the hardest challenges, like I did with RE4 and God Hand. Although I do tend to get high scores when I play arcade games for a while, I never play specifically to get high scores--I just play to get better, and if I do well enough, I'll record the score. Like the first time I beat Time Crisis 2 way back in the day; I just kept pumping quarters in, and after an hour or two of playing, I managed to beat it and got first place in the rankings. But I didn't care so much about my score, I was just ecstatic that I beat it in one go, alone, with $5.
