Wow, interesting. I've never heard of a grading system like that before... 70 being a C- is pretty much standard fare here in the States. -Tom Yeah, I found it kind of funny when I first started posting online and saw people complaining about scoring in the 70s. :'D That's...like...really good for essays here! Though to be fair, if you want a first class degree I think you need to score in the 90s in your final year, and anything lower than a seventy leads to a degree that isn't much better than a failure in most people's eyes, so I guess our system becomes closer to the American one in its later years, even if you're still technically 'passing' by scoring in the 50s and 60s. Anyway, this is way off-topic. So...how about that Ys Seven? ;D My average is 62-70, so I guess I'm an average game. Or you're a game that gets average reviews at the time, but is later hailed as an influential cult classic. <3

At my school, 70 is the lowest D possible, with anything below it an F. :U

Heh, it took a bit of getting used to when I went to University as well. If I'd got a 60-70 in school I'd have been really disappointed, but in uni it was something to be proud of. 70-100 First (A) 60-69 2:1 (B) 50-59 2:2 (C) 45-49 Third (D) 40-44 Pass (...E?) Anything lower is a fail, but anything below a 2:2 (in many cases a 2:1) and you may as well not have bothered. And lecturers and markers hate giving out firsts. So like 8% of people if that get them, and about 40% get 2:1s. Can't remember exactly what it was like in school, I'm too old for that.

pretty unfamiliar with those kind of grading system
junior high: not sufficient / sufficient /discrete etc. (like project diva scores) senior high: 1 to 10 (like edge reviews) senior high final exam (maturity exam): 1 to 100 university: 1 to 30 (like... ehm... don't know...)
anyway, I killed the stupid bird at the third Try in Hard Mode, I was expecting more challenge there. And I almost never use the flash guard system, I prefer dash+dodge, for now.

I made sure to get good at Flash Guard playing on Normal. It just made the game so much more fun.

I'm, playing on hard. Well I needed to use the flash guard sometimes in the boss fight with the bird, but that's the only occasion since I started the game.

Flash guarding is definitely the thing to do if you can time it... the game rewards you with SP and more importantly, Extra points. In a good boss fight, you can use an Extra skill two or three times with plenty of flash guarding.

In a good boss fight, you can use an Extra skill two or three times with plenty of flash guarding. And the only timing you need is the initial guard. On multi-hit attacks there's no timing window how fast or slow you can keep hitting the Guard (well you can go too slow) I think I've only seen one enemy that required actual timing 'cause the Guard would push it away from you and then it'd come rolling right back

I thought the map had a flag over where you need to go next.... unless it was taken out in the NA version, but I'm not sure why XSEED would do that. That flag marker helped me get through the Japanese version, be it that I can't read the language (except kana ).

Last I checked in the US version, there was indeed a little flag over your next objective in the map.

... I think people just skip the manual and help screens these days.
Perhaps there needs to be an important NPC with "RTFM" as its only dialogue. .___.

So then there's no excuse. If they never bothered to notice their map, that's their own fault. *Rages*

Even though some of the cons are there own fault for not checking the map. I really like how they hailed the boss battles "Ys Seven’s lack of direction and forced backtracking cloud some of the best boss battles fought on a handheld." Having X-Play hail the gameplay is positive advertising Im kinda anxious to see there response to Felghana and Chronicles.

Y'know, taken as a serious review show X-Play is crap. Taken as a comedy show X-Play fails as well. However, having seen Sessler doing non-comedy interviews, panels, "Sessler's Soapbox", and the large podcast he does with other G4 hosts, he's actually damned intelligent, funny, and as far as I see from his appearances in these things, highly respectable. Morgan Webb on the other hand, basically just sucks.
