Okay, this idea just came to me as I was posting in bishopcruz' storyline FAQ thread. So as not to derail a very useful topic, I've decided to make a new one to flesh out my idea. Okay, we know there's a lost Atlas Continent (read, Atlantis) out there. Feena and Reah's listing on the Alternative Saga site identifies it as their birthplace. We also know that Atlantis never stays lost in fiction and in Ys, lost things really don't stay lost, especially when Adol is in the vicinity. So it's natural to think that Adol might hear of this lost continent and decide that he just has to find it. With me so far?
So here's where I started thinking. The Eldeen are the thread that tie the Ys stories together. The final game in the series will probably involve them; how better than to take Adol to the home of that civilization and answer all our questions? I figure that since the continent is in the middle of the western ocean somewhere, a game sending Adol there would provide a natural opportunity to revisit the Canaan islands (and Adol knows this guy who just might give him a lift, especially if his daughter has anything to say about it). So I started thinking crossover potential:
The first half of the game could feature Adol travelling to all the regions the Eldeen have influenced looking for clues to the lost continent (and I'm sure they could contrive a sufficient excuse to send him to regions like Altago where there isn't that influence). Adol would obviously have Dogi helping him investigate but he could also look up old friends and recruit them to help as well. Anyone so recruited would follow you to Atlas when you finally locate the continent. Plenty of relationship meter-type opportunities there (and to be fair, we naturally have to include Dogi in the calculations, maybe Geis too). Since Atlas is the home of the Eldeen, it shouldn't be hard for the writers to find an excuse to bring Feena and Reah back to complete the picture. Then, Adol and all his friends solve the great Mystery and vanquish the great Evil. Realizing he'll never manage to top this adventure, Adol decides to settle down for a bit and gets married to whoever he has the highest relationship meter with... then he gets bored a few years later and starts the cycle all over again in the Zs series.
Of course, I'm not suggesting Falcom does anything like this soon. I figure twelve years (to pick a number that ends on an anniversary) should be enough to make a few new cool games and remake IV, V and bring us the Super Ultimate version of Ys I-II Forever before they tackle this project.
So, what do you think?
