The music in the trailer sounds great. Who is picking this one up? I am curious as to how many CDs the OST will contain since Falcom is touting this as the biggest role-playing game on the Playstation Portable. Any guesses?
By the way, are there any plans by any game companies to bring this one over? Konami was Falcom's partner company at the Tokyo Game Show so does that mean they will be bringing it over or is that only just to advertise the Konami Style edition?

Definitely be picking up a copy when it comes out, though I'll be, uhh, exploring the information superhighway for alternate distribution means of the Mini OSTs first. Your guess is as good as mine for why there are seven different versions including ten songs not found on the version Falcom offers directly.

AFAIK, Konami's involvement with Falcom is as their Japanese distributor only. The most likely candidate for bringing Zero no Kiseki to the U.S. would be... erm... us. Assuming we actually get through the three Sora no Kiseki games before flying cars and transporters are invented, anyway. And are still crazy enough to go back for more, at that point. The game's length, too, is apparently not that much different from the Sora no Kiseki games (perhaps a bit longer, but not UNIMAGINABLY longer or anything). And Xanadu Next's one-disc OST aside, every Falcom game in the last decade has has a 2-disc OST, so I'm guessing this one will be no different. I'm definitely picking up a copy, though, as I agree, the music in the trailer is outstanding! -Tom Wyrdwad, When you say "actually" you are not saying there is a possibility XSEED might not get through the Sora no Kiseki games, right?! I do not know if you can answer this or not, but is there a reason why you started with the Sora no Kiseki games instead of Zero no Kiseki? I mean, XSEED started with Ys Seven which was the latest installment in the Ys series so why not start with Zero no Kiseki over the Sora no Kiseki games? I am asking only because a few of my friends back at home in the states would seriously rather have Zero no Kiseki over any of the Sora no Kiseki games considering the outdated battle system, etc. in the latter. I mean they would probably lick XSEED's toilets clean with their bare tongues to get their hands on that one in English. Anyway, the OST sounds awesome from what I have heard and it is hands down, a day one purchase for me.

As far as I am concerned, that is counterproductive marketing. Whose dumb idea was it to do that? Unless...do you think Falcom is trying to get fans to by seven individual copies?! No, seriously though, it just seems like a bad way to market a product.

I'm hoping it has 3 discs. I mean, Soma Bringer - another game for a portable system, did. So ZnK may well warrant it, right? Regardless, it's gonna be mine.

I agree. Maybe not the toilet-licking thing, but the updated system and everything else? Damn right! I would LOVE to check out Zero no Kiseki, even moreso than Sora no Kiseki. On the other hand, if SnK's release would speed up the release of... say... Ys vs. Snk, by all means, PLEASE get it done!

The distribution method with the mini-OSTs is more likely Konami's idea rather than Falcom's. Wouldn't be the first time they've done something like that.
As for me, as much as I'd like to pick up the game, I won't have my contract work finished before it's all out and done, so I'll likely miss out on all the bonuses.

Uh, doesn't Zero no Kiseki spoil a lot of things from SnK? It really seems like something you'd have to play in order. Do correct me if I'm wrong, though.

There could be some stuff said in Zero that wont be understood if the player did not play sora. Note how Estelle and Joshua are in Zero no Kiseki. Also note that Lloyd is introduced to Estelle and Joshua in Alternative Saga and for Alternative saga to be out in English you need Sora no Kiseki out first.

Alternative Saga is canon? You've got to be kidding me. Nope, I think it was one of the staff columns that mentioned it. ( Makes the utter lack of reaction on everybody's part to to the not-dead Chester and Lowe rather mystifying, doesn't it?). I think Falcom also mentioned that they wanted Zero no Kiseki to be playable to people who hadn't played Sora first. I'm sure some stuff will be spoiled by definition (especially considering one of the reasons why Estelle and Joshua are headed to Crossbell) but not so much that you can't play it without going through the three games that came before. When you say "actually" you are not saying there is a possibility XSEED might not get through the Sora no Kiseki games, right? Not to speak for Wyrd or XSEED but... he was phrasing that in terms of how long the localization will take. The Sora games aren't exactly something you do in a few months. I seem to recall in a few other places he's mentioned that with all the work they've been putting in, if they didn't release all three games, heads would explode. You can tell your friends that they needn't worry about that: The underlying system is exactly the same in Sora and Zero. The latter has just added new Arts, Support/Combo Crafts and a couple of AT bonuses. The basic mechanics haven't changed at all.

So what, only small bits of Alternative Saga is canon? Or are those guys just magically alive in this world for no adequately explored reason? Either way, this is ridiculous. I respect Falcom less now than I did before learning this.

It's not referring to the 3rd at least, because it mentioned 3rd separately. I haven't seen the actual interview though, just a bullet point summary of it. It could certainly be a joke or whatever that the summary guy didn't pick up on.
I don't really expect it'll have any impact on the story whatsoever either way though. Doubt it'll even be really mentioned, I'd be annoyed if it was.

I am asking only because a few of my friends back at home in the states would seriously rather have Zero no Kiseki over any of the Sora no Kiseki games considering the outdated battle system, etc. in the latter. Famitsu and Dengeki have both said in their reviews that Zero no Kiseki would confuse newcomers to the series, despite Falcom's claim of being able to start through Zero or Sora. I also think that with Zero no Kiseki being written as a sequel, there will be events and so forth that will impact the players very friggin' hard if you're playing from Sora no Kiseki. Also, you state that the Sora no Kiseki engine is 'outdated' - when Zero is simply adding new parts and ideas to it. It is still the same combat engine with a few tweaks and changes. Well, Famitsu is not known for being truthful in Japan so I think we can discount their claims on that one. I think we all know how much they fudge the scores for the games on their reviews, too. We might want to listen to Falcom on this one, at least over Famitsu, anyway... Anyway, I have played through the three Sora no Kiseki games myself and it is definitely not necessary to play the games in order to know what is going on. There is definitely enough information and scenes in each game to get players up to speed (and probably why there is so much text in the games, too). However, I guess we'll find out for ourselves soon enough, right? Anyway, when I say "outdated" though, that is definitely the case here. The first game is the Sora no Kiseki series is slow--really slow. It literally took me over a year to muster up the interest to work through FC because of how much I loathed the battle system. Then suddenly when I played the second game it was quick and much more tuned than the first, and third game was even better. I think if gamers played Zero no Kiseki first, and then went back to the first Sora no Kiseki game, it would probably feel like a chore and extremely cumbersome. Personally, I will never play my Sora no Kiseki FC game again because of how bad the battle system was. Slow battle systems are always a huge turn off for me in role-playing games even if the story is good because of how much time is spent fighting. The OST is what has me the most excited though, it is seriously rocking.

Also. FC has the world's greatest plot twist ever. And playing SC first will ruin it. ;o; I do not think the plot twist in FC was that great. The hints were so obvious and everyone should have totally seen them coming. Well, maybe I should say that anyone who reads mystery books would have picked up on the fact that (highlight for spoilers) Professor Alba (is that the correct English spelling or is it Alva?) is the man behind it all.
Think about it, Joshua suddenly gets sick when you go to the top of the Tower of Esmelas just outside of Rolent, and you just so happen to run into the professor there. Not only that, you can hear "multiple voices" talking from where you are on the stairs below the tower roof and then the professor gives you that bullcrap excuse that he was talking to himself. Come on, if that was not one of the most obvious and hugest red flags you have ever seen in a game right there, then gamers are not as smart at picking up on clues as I thought. Also, that fact that he is investigating some peculiar devices there and has like expert knowledge about something that nobody else knows about is a dead giveaway, too. Then to top it off, the professor conveniently crosses paths with you in like every region of the game and helps you get into Grancel when the region is on lockdown and the whole scene at the museum in Grancel just puts the nail in the coffin...not such a plot twist anymore now is it when you think about it that way.
Also, did anyone notice Joshua? He talks with Cassius about leaving because of his past at the beginning of the game, there is the conversation with Estelle when you spend the night up at the farm, he notices a familiar voice out at the dock near that lodge on the lake in Bose, there is the scene where the kids tell him about the guy with the silver hair when the orphanage gets burned down, and then there is the battle competition at the arena in Grancel where he notices something about the fighting style of the special military group's leader.
The whole mind control thing also was pretty obvious after the conversation between the air pirates in their hideout and it was apparent that it was going to play a bigger role in the game and then when the same thing happened to the Mayor in Ruan, the whole tower incident with Joshua unraveled itself.
I know there were plenty more hints than that, but it has been a very long time since I played FC, and I do not remember everything. That said, if nobody noticed the hints and did not come to the conclusion that the professor was behind it all and stringing you along the whole time...then I sincerely advise gamers to put down their games and try reading some more mystery books. I guess there is also the possibility that most foreigner's language ability regarding Japanese is so poor that they could not understand the hints when they were thrown in their faces like a giant cream pie, but FC surely was not rocket science to figure out. // Please, use spoiler tags. They've been on the headlines of this forum for some time now. Thank you. - UM

Hmmm... see, I actually quite like the battle system in FC. In fact, I quite appreciate the slower, more deliberate nature of it -- it makes each battle feel kind of like a good game of chess or something. And although I have yet to make much progress in SC, I didn't really notice that much of a difference in speed at all between it and FC. Maybe it gets faster later, I dunno... but I can definitely say that just playing FC without any prior knowledge of the series, the battle system is *awesome*, and I think players are going to really love it. If what you say is true, though -- if it speeds up so much that FC becomes difficult to go back to after playing the later installments -- then I'd say that's all the more reason to release the games in order. After all, if we released a game with a superior battle system first, then why would we ever bother going back to release its predecessor? And if we skipped FC like that, there would be a LOT of pissed-off fans. -Tom I cannot stand Chess...I agree with the sentiment that these games are "bored games" and not just board games. Funny thing, I used to be in a Chess Club a few years ago and I was really, really good. Now I really cannot stand the game. It is so unlike a real battle because we would never just sit around and play a war game of tit for tat. Personally, I do not think players are going to particularly love playing a slow battle system with music that sounds like it is jazzy elevator music, but what do I know? I told everyone on RPGamer that FRAGILE's battle system sucked when the game released in Japan and they did not believe me because they had not played it, then when XSEED brought it over people were like, "This game really sucks!" Not to mention, XSEED did not even translate a bunch of stuff in the game and left it in Japanese... Care to fill anyone in on why that happened? Anyway, for somebody who makes a living knowing what is good and what is not...what do I know, seriously? I think your biggest weakness here, Wyrdwad, is that you cannot judge what is going to be good for other gamers. For yourself, that is fine, that is your personal opinion, and if you like every Falcom game ever made, great. However, the majority of gamers have higher expectations, and if you cannot understand what those are and continue to see everything that Falcom makes through rose-tinted glasses, XSEED is doomed. I have also heard several times around the net that XSEED has taken several hard hits financially because of many of their past choices in games. Keep that in mind. On the flipside of the coin, I think XSEED was smart in releasing Ys Seven first. Releasing Ys I & II Chronicles first could have turned off a lot of gamers to the Ys series. That aside, anyone have an idea how many songs will be on the Zero no Kiseki OST? I am guessing about 75.
