I haven't been back here for a year or two, I'm surprised that the forum's are still active. (Could not remember my old account, tried for an hour.)
On to business.
First question, is there a script somewhere of all the dialog translated? If so, I'd be willing to start up my copy of Ys Origin and help with inserting text in-game using the tools developed.
I currently have a lot of free time and could get a lot of this done very fast.
So, message me to sort something out if you want.

That's where I'm confused. I can't remember my old username or e-mail, haha. I tried so many different things..
But I know I was around when the, LOOK AT MY PHOTO OF Ys ORIGIN was around. Which I couldn't find, I know I posted in that.

I downloaded the utility this evening, and after tooling around with it for a couple hours I finally started working with it. Overall I am very impressed - major props for coming up with this utility!
Some advice to other users to help avoid a couple of pitfalls I had to cross: - Make sure you use the Ys Origin Config to disable fullscreen, otherwise you won't see the extra windows. - App Locale doesn't work with this utility - it translates all output to the translation engine into Japanese, and line breaks don't work. I had to go into the Control Panel and set non-Unicode language to Japanese, and after that it worked flawlessly.
It was a bit cumbersome at first, tabbing back and forth between the two Translation Engine windows and a browser with Google translator up, but after a dozen or so replacements I started to pick up speed. The only downside is not being able to tie a specific line of text back to the entry in the .xso file, so large scripts with dialog in various parts of the game (such as use of the communication shell) are hard to find and translate in context. Would there be a way to output the line# into the translation engine log in a future enhancement?
As I stated earlier, I am incredibly impressed with this utility! I'm gonna be having fun with this one for quite some time to come!

HI guys it's cool to read that someone so skilled developed a so cool tool. BTW.. I decided to write down here just to clarify some aspects:
1) the translation project is not dead. It is takin' a lot of time since there is a lot of ext to translate... we finished all the items and monster descriptions and edited all the 277 bitmap files of the games. So graphics are done, items descriptions too. While the main dump is more that 75% translated.
So we are not sleepin' or loosin' time as someone stated in a previous poso.
We don't have to receive extra motivation since we were "outdated" by someone else as someone wrote before. Did you get "raisondetritus"?
2) We are no interested in makin' the translation script available till now. We are still translatin it. When the final patch will be out it will be completely available.
3) we developed our tools that make us work with all the confort we need for the case. I really want to congratulate with the guy who created this useful tool but we will not use it. We have our own.
So...the project is still goin' on but isnce we have to go to work every day to feed our families , our free tim is really limited, the work to do is great so we need some time. this is the only reason why we are takin' so long. We reached a good amount of work, more will be finished early... news will be published once there will be some of notice.
Bye Bye guys

updatez~!!! Now with 100% more menus. Obligatory screencaps: <- Small feature addition: This will probably do what wanted regarding the line# issue: if you know already what it is CTRL-G will take you there and if you don't just copy the text outputted from the main window and paste it into the search function (shown above), and it takes you to the next match. Otherwise pretty typical search feature. CTRL-F to find a specific string, F3 to search for the next match in the same document. Always assumes a fragment: - 'ell done' does find "Well done, Hugo." Case sensitive: - 'hugo' does not find "Well done, Hugo." Doesn't matter for non-english strings though. - '見ていて下さい' and 'まあ、見ていて下さい。' will both find and return a match on 'まあ、見ていて下さい。'. Some other stuff: - Screenshot limit increased to 9999 ( originally was 99 and then YsO silently stops saving anymore ss after that... ) Minor cosmetic edits in save/load screen. ( Be cautious about overwriting any previous work when you're extracting new/updated versions of this over your old ones, as it contains a lot of the default xso scripts. ) Download v0.0.3

Am I the only one who found the succession of the last two posts comicly hysterical? I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but it almost struck me as satirical, or parodic. Anyway, fantastic work uneternalism. Keep it up! And, Doppia, I intended no offense. It's great to know that you're still working on the project and haven't lost heart. I can well understand the demands of real life over a translation hobby. It's good to know you have the resolve to keep working on the project even when another one might or will be released first. So keep up the great work, and hopefully we'll see a quality patch down the road. As someone who's just impatient to play the game, I'll be using somebody else's patch first, but Ys' aren't one playthrough in a lifetime kind of games, so I'm sure I'll still use yours at some point down the road. So EVERYBODY keep up the excellent work. And I'll continue to offer absolutely nothing but verbal encouragement on my part!

I was not offended I just wanted to state that the project is still on and we hadn't lost our intention to translate it. If someone else wants to translate it.. ok... I have no intention to stop him nor the power to do so. So..good luck to everyone.. I will continue workin' with my pace, no hurry, no worry about new patches. I want to make a good patch instead releasin' a beta one, incompleted one or so on...so... we will release the patch once done, tested and bug fixed. Good luck to uneternalism(s)... Bye Bye guys

While the main dump is more that 75% translated. I thought the game was already 100% translated. Is it because you're planning to release the Italian patch at the same time?

Maybe you're thinking of Deuce's translation? I don't know but pretty sure that is the only version I've ever seen anyone talk about as if it was 100% complete. Different groups, though. On topic... I was responding right under Alyindar's post - I had my browser window open hours before posting my comments, so it looks really out of synch with everything else right above it. I have no intention of throwing the gauntlet at anyone here, this is a tool ( not a translation ) that I enjoyed working on immensely and if it will help others find YsO more accessible, then it's win/win in my eyes, and I'm sure for doppiapunta&group the reasons for their work is not all that different. raisondetritus, I didn't take your posts offensively or anything but I think the problem is you make it sound like the groups who are doing this for fun, on their free time are somehow supposed to be pit against each other when we haven't volunteered for that position. I respect doppiapunta's work, I've played their YsVI patch and hope their YsO project is coming along well for them as well. I would be thrilled if a translation came out of this through someone's efforts ( maybe mine too, dunno ) but it's probably wise not to talk about it right now as if it were already a english-translation in and of itself - because as of now that's just plain misleading. That's why the word "teaser" is in the title of this post! doppiapunta thanks for your words. If you have any technical issues still being worked out or just want some extra hands please feel free to ask. I know you don't need any help if I'm reading into your posts correctly, but if you change your mind for whatever reason by all means say so, I can't make any promises not knowing anything about what you guys are doing but if I thought I could help I'm sure I would do so. I'll just leave things at that.

Yeah, I know about Deuce's translation, but I thought I read somewhere that the people translating for Doppi's patch were also done. I may be wrong, though. Anyway, it's great to see all you people wanting to make it happen.

Likewise. I was sure Wyrd or somebody had at one point said the translation work was done; it was just the implementation that was taking up time. That and some mysterious "Aside" or "Extra" which couldn't be disclosed. Not at all my own sentiments, just an apparent trend in such projects which cannot be denied. Thankfully, that trend is not present here, and the people working on the patch are more mature than many. You cannot deny that many independent translators drop a project when they learn that somebody else is going to release one before they do, and many anime subs even bash their "competition" right in their projects. Also, it cannot be denied that many people would love the chance to use this tool to "show up" somebody working on a patch by doing it themselves beforehand, and many immature people would take on such a project for no other reason. Likewise, many independent translators do what they do more for the sake of personal praise and recognition than for the sake of providing something for the fans. I won't name any names, though I'm certain at least one name comes readily to everybody's mind. Again, this is not something I meant to condone in any way, simply an obvious trend. As I said, I'm pleased to see that there are no such personalities involved here. Such selflessness always makes me happy, and the rarity of such motivations redeems humanity a bit in my heart.

Is Makk78 concerned with the project?
Is this sign of movement? Of progress!
Oh the excitement!

Wow this tool is really cool. I think that will be useful for the ones who are translatin' the game. I tried it and it rocks. The coolest think IMHO is that it's possible to see the changes on the fly...and that allow to test directly the strings once translated. i tried to do the same even with the items and bosses's description but that fucntion doesn't work with datas. is there any possibility to implement it? Unenternalism what do you think? If it won't be possible I have to congratulate with you for the good work you did. Cool

I'm seriously surprised no one's released a low quality patch with this already. I truly expected somebody to pump out a patch in an attempt to show up the translation team in shortert order than this. Gotta say I'm pretty disappointed.
