I've recently gone through all the anime in my Netflix list, and I don't know of any titles to add to my queue. This is where you wonderful people get to earn karma by helping! My all time favorites are Berserk, Ergo Proxy, Wolf's Rain, and Death Note. I also greatly enjoy Ghost in the Shell, Code Geass, Pandora Hearts, Blood +, Fate/Stay Night, Full Metal Alchemist, and similar shows. Basically I enjoy darker and, especially, more cerebral shows (I love anything with Dai Sato involved) with good writing. I prefer contiguous plots that carry from episode to episode, rather than independent plots with the same characters (If I watch a random episode, I should be confused as all hell). I don't much care for action, at least too much of it (the second series of Full Metal Alchemist bored me toward the end, when the last twenty episodes turned into DBZ, and I usually space out when watching the space battles in Gundam shows). I don't at all mind anime which dedicate full episodes to dialogue so long as it's interesting. AND I HATE COMEDIES. Comic relief in a show is good, because there's always a witty goofball around, but an entire show dedicated to making me laugh? I can make myself laugh without sacrificing my time in the process. I prefer plot. (I don't find most anime comedies funny anyway, just silly) So if anybody has similar tastes, or a strong capacity for pattern recognition to help identifly my tastes, please throw me some titles. Thanks good folks.

My all time favorites are Berserk, and Death Note. I also greatly enjoy Blood +, Fate/Stay Night, and similar shows. Berserk is pretty good, though I wish I could see more of it. I started to get into the Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin I think?) anime, but I didn't get far enough! (I kinda forgot about it after a while...) Death Note is just awesome, though! I stopped watching it halfway through -- I felt it just lost its flavor around that point, although I wish I could've stuck around for the entire third Kira story! I just couldn't keep up with the show anymore -- and I couldn't afford to! Blood + (the anime) seemed alright, though I didn't get to see enough of it since it was over 2 and a half years ago that I lost satellite TV. We did, however, get to watch the movie. It seemed pretty good, surprisingly! I stuck around to the very end of it! So yes, looking back now, I wish I could've spent more time on the anime! You really like Fate/Stay Night... have you seen Shingetsutan Tsukihime? Granted, the visual novel is better, but the anime is pretty good too. As far as I know, both are by Type Moon, so you might want to give it a shot? I also think the Dragon Warrior/Quest anime is good (Although... that's an early assumption. I've only seen one or two episodes!), and I did wish I got to see the entire Tenchi Muyo series as well. Those aren't necessarily dark by any means, though. Mech fights and generally ANYTHING mech bores me too! (Yes, I'm looking at you, Anubis/ZOE PSX!! Wait, no I'm not! I sold you! Hahaha!!!) Both seasons of The Tower of Druaga probably wouldn't suit you, then. Also, I LOVED FMA, both series! I can't honestly say which one I liked more! The second series definitely seemed a lot darker. Anyway, I've talked about what I liked. That doesn't mean you'll like the same. But hopefully somewhere in this wall of text, you'll find another show to get into! Otherwise, in the words of the great Dr. Wily...

Was going to suggest Fate/Stay Night until I read the first post. >_> But yeah, Tsukihime might be good to go for, although IIRC, it was generally received even worse than the F/SN anime was. Also, how about... the Ys anime?

I've got mixed feelings 'bout them, myself. I've liked them in games since playing Xenogears, and I actuallyl enjoyed ZOE: 2nd Runner. Still fire up Virtual On occasionally as well. But I hate watching them shoot at each other on screen for half a show. I did like Neon Genesis. Then again, those weren't really mechs! And I realy liked the strong theological and eschatological themes. That said, I failed to mention initially, I really like Eschatological animes. I loved Gilgamesh, and I plan to watch Sands of Destruction after I've played the game. If anybody knows of any similars, let me know! Good show. It really shone in the second season (Edo Arc, I believe). I also like most things dealing with samurai, but most of the animes that do have kinda sucked. Basilisk is all fighting (which bores me), Samurai Deeper Kyo was incredibly "meh," Samurai Champloo was. . . alright. . .and while Blade of the Immortal was good, it just ended abru-- So I'm also open to any good samurai shows. I'll definitely check out tsukihime, though. Thanks guys!

That's all pretty much exactly how I feel! I couldn't get into a lot of samurai shows, but I was having fun with the one I'd mentioned earlier. I'm not sure how I feel about the Samurai X movie(s) though; I just couldn't sit through the whole thing the first time. I also need to finish Witch Hunter Robin, come to think of it. I get the feeling it's going to be deeper than it currently seems to be -- I'd almost forgotten that I wanted to recommend it to you.

Don't watch Witch Hunter Robin. Just get the OST and be content. If Tsukihime, then add: Gekijouban Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners. Same setting as Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night and more recent. Druaga was good and underwatched i mho. It's not a comedy, it has humor but what was there was brief and well-done. The first episode has most of the humor for the entire series and I found it hilarious. I can recommend off the top of my head... Moribito Guardian of the Sacred SpiritMushishiNabari no OuShigofumiJuuni Kokki: 12 KingdomsHesitate to recommend this but it's just too damn good to leave out. KaibaIf you can get past the first episode or so you'll be fine for the rest series. I actually ditched it on the first try and then went back to it. Dunno why now. Not for everyone, but in my mind one of the best series I've seen. You might have seen most, all old school stuff. Shigofumi and Mushishi are 'story each episode' though. Shigofumi has episodic side-stories and it's own overall arc at the same time. Mushishi has only a main character and the world to relate between episodes, I don't think it has a main or single background story but it's quite good. I don't watch 'dark' shows that much but of the ones I've seen I can second Death Note, Tsukihime, and add Elfen Lied, Karas, Baccano!. Wonderful Days, Xamd, Noein, all worthy mentions. Monster, Kurenai are semi-dark and semi-cerebral lo but they're slow paced and mundane more than the ones mentioned above. Could easily recommend some others but not without totally breaking given pattern-recognition criteria. Macross Frontier doesn't look like it would place anywhere with the other favorites you've mentioned but it's pretty good, hell if only for the OST it's worth the mention.

I'd recommend Eden of the East, same team behind Ghost in the Shell.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'll definitely have to check some of those out.
I've seen a few on your list, uneternalism, to mixed effect. Loved Moribito, stopped watching Mushishi mid-way (only anime I've ever seen with literally NO plot), and Noein was an interesting mix of things I don't like with things I do (annoying brats, children's anime-type show/serious themes, quantum theory. . . REALLY odd mixture, but good), and Elfen Lied was good, though quite strange, and I just finished 12 Kingdoms last week (it lost strength about mid way through, I thought, but Rakushun can make any show good!).
UUgh! That show was friggin' crazy! It was almost as right-brained as Mushishi, and it seemed to me more like an acid trip than a story! I still finished it, but, as it lacked logical cohesion, I enjoyed it most when I'd been awake for over 30 hours, and it had all kinds of bizarre effects on my conscious state. I love shows I have trouble following, but preferably because they're complex, not ape-shit insane.
But I'll definitely check out quite a few of those, as some of them look quite good, and some of them that don't still hold some promise (I've got an open mind, and I've been surprised before). Thanks again, everyone! (Now hopefully, I can find some of these on Netflix too!)

OH, DID YOU REALLY COMPARED FMA BROTHERHOOD TO DBZ?.............seriously.
Now: -Baccano! -Steins;Gate (recomended a lot, just check first ep and you´ll see) -Mirai Nikki/Future Diary -Persona 4: The animation (is actually pretty good) -Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When cicadas cry) -Umineko No Naku Koro Ni (When the seagulls cry) -Deadman Wonderland, you would have to read the manga after the anime though. -Bakemonogatari (This one may fit yourtype about just story, the kinda thing may drive you away, between the interesting plot, there is also a lot of comedy, but its good in the end)
I Would recomend Blue Exorcist, but you said you werent an action dude, so yeah.
BUT PLEASE, even if you dont like action, you should definitely try Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. YOU MUST, THERE IS NO ONE AS MANLY AS KAMINA AND SIMON.

Thanks guys! Good to see Karura isn't the only one who can romance dead threads! After a little searching, those all look like good recommendations. Steins;Gate Mirai Nikki and Persona 4 were already at the top of my list, and I've seen (and loved) Appleseed. If anything, that demonstrates you guys hit the mark! That list should keep me going for a while. (thankfully, with less pressure than my demanding mountain of a game list) As for action, I don't mind it in itself (I really wish there were more anime featuring kenjutsu), but if it's NOTHING but action, with no semblence of plot, I simply can't keep focus--I haven't even been able to catch up on Berserk, which I love, because Miura's had them fighting trolls for about 4 volumes straight Oh, and FMA Brotherhood. . .you have to admit it followed the same pattern toward the end Between the first 15 or so episodes being a comic retelling of the first series, and the last third just being "FIGHT IT OUT!" I'll definitely be watching the first series again before I watch the second. (even though the middle WAS a great show with great characters missing from the other) Thanks again, Kirika and Reymon!

Fate/zero is a fantastic part of the Fate Saga. Honestly, its suprising how far this series has come from an ero game.
Regardless of its roots, I love the characters, and the story/music is always a welcome sight on my watching list, plan to watch or media player!

Watching the anime is reviving my desire to read the eroge--it's only been on my hard drive for a few years now. I've watched up through episode 4, and was a bit disappointed in the last one--referring back to my earlier DBZ comment. . . The first few episodes were great, dramatically, really playing out the scheming and such. I'm afraid now that if every fight is rife with drawn out soliloquies about Servant's stats and Magic the Gathering powers, there'll be no room for more of that scheming. My only other complaint is that Gilgamesh and Alexander's personalities are transposed. Arthur and Gilgamesh and such, being legends, are open to reinterpretation. . . Alexander is historically documented. Seeing one of my childhood heroes made into a brutish barbarian is a bit grating--though that's just me being pedantic. He's still a really likable character.

I actually think Alexander´s personality is cool, well, at least that cheerfull persona is the kind that calls me more. Also, maybe you be complaning for the action scenes, but this thing is actually pretty twisted when it comes to development, it really goes away from my expectations of the 4th grail war and twist them and surprises me in every level that is hard to not love it. And Kirei and Kiritsugu, definitely the stars of the show.

Thank you! Claymore was pretty good, but it suffered from the same problem of many manga to anime adaptations: NO ENDING! *STILL shaking Xebec for more Pandora Hearts* And I liked the Silent Mobius movie I saw a few years back, so I'll definitely look into the series and those others eventually (I actually have my hands FULL with nothing but good anime for a change! ) And Rey, I really like Xander's personality too, I just think it differs too much from the person he's based on--like maybe they should have made him somebody else, where the personality traits would be more believable (like most of the Servants aren't well documented historicaly). I'd be likewise perplexed if they summoned George W. Bush, and he was a sensitive and compassionate healer. It really doesn't detract from the show, though, so long as you suspend historical belief. As for the action, I haven't had any problems with any episode since 4. I don't mind the action itself, and the last two were great; 4 just seemed to be stalling. Exactly.
