Palace is one of the songs I think really needed to get used more in-game. No problems with it. Unlike a lot of V's music, it's actually interesting to listen to. That's the problem with V; not that it's not typical but it's just not at all memorable (with a few notable exceptions).

The Chronicles version of Palace is one of my very favorite Ys I & II songs, so yeah.
And you're right, Ys V does have a lot of forgettable music. But in my opinion, so do DoY and Napishtim. There are some great songs that stay with me after I'm done listening, like In the Heat of Ignition and ERNST. On the other hand, songs that are generally popular like Walking the Path of Legend and Ultramarine Deep do absolutely nothing for me.

Both of which are among my favorites in their respective soundtracks. -Tom

Ys VI's soundtrack means nothing to me, aside from Ernst, Mighty Obstacle, Battle # (whatever), Intro, and Grana Vallis. The other themes, especially overworld and dungeon themes, aren't worth it to me -- they don't even SOUND like Ys to me! I even dare say they are sub-par, the soundtrack is actually a part of everything else that I've ever felt was wrong with the game! The theme of the game, the story, the characters, the fact that the game's length is actually exaggerated by the fact that you go through most areas almost 5 times altogether, and that doesn't include the grinding you'd be doing by the end of the game to get the strongest equipment! I'm dead set that Ys V's various overworld and dungeon themes actually sound better -- and that it's actually a superior Ys game! Does it sound like Ys? No, it sounds more like a REALLY GOOD epic movie soundtrack -- and that's still excellent by me! Does it play like Ys? Not exactly, but there's not a single time where my mind did wander from the game, not a single moment where I thought "this is boring/bland/tiresome/I wanna do something else". Yep, I know, I'm mean, I'm objective, and I'm in the minority.

I was actually referring to the theme of the "original Galbalan", which is a remix of "Battle #58". It's off the tip of my tongue...
// Yet even still, I prefer the original "Battle #58" from Ys IV, to the not-so-brilliant remix in VI. It's on the edge of my mind...

I concur! >:O You crazy people liking that sunbaked thing! However, I DO like Palace! Always have! I like it with in-game context and without! The only version of it that I have heard and don't really care for is the PC Engine one as I find the water drop sound to be slightly annoying. I can't recall the Chronicles version that well though. As for Dawn of Ys, I do like a few tunes from it but I think the amount I like is pretty much the same amount as SEVEN's. :P

Awh man, once again, my favourite version is disfuddled... I LOVE the PCE version of Palace to the domains of heartworthiness.
I also really like the Complete version of Palace of Solomon best.
My all time favourite JDK OST is VMJ, so there's that... I'm not such a fan of all rock and guitar all the time. On the JDK Band Spring '08 thing, my favourite track is the Cat Lying In The Sun or whatever. So there's also that.

I concur! >:O You crazy people liking that sunbaked thing! Best sanctum music in the game. I really look forward to that part of the game and am pissed when I finish it cause it's so short. They really need to expand the Earth and Fire Sanctums when they go multiplatform.

I thought the Earth Sanctum was fine as far as length goes though Fire really felt too short. What they need is to give us a proper Moon Sanctum instead of skipping straight to the boss. Oh, and ramp up the difficulty by a factor of five or so.

Yeah, the only hard dragon was the earth. The rest of them felt way too easy... don't know if I was overleved because I spend time leveling up skills and buying equipment or what. Even on nightmare, I rolled right over the other 4.
That being said, Earth always kicks my ass.

I thought the Earth Dragon was pathetically easy until I fought it on Nightmare. ;_;

The Earth Dragon was a very easy fight, even on Nightmare.
The game in its entirety was pretty easy on Nightmare though. I blame healing items.

I have to say the beginning of that has a sound channel that sounds a hell of a lot like the opening music to Guardian legend. Before the better part kicks in Also correct me if I'm wrong but Ys V uses the same game engine that 7th Saga and Mystic Ark did for graphics doesn't it?

I'm not sure which of the games came first but the style is pretty much identical. Originally I noticed Adol in V had the same design as the characters in those games but just chalked it up to snes similarities. But I saw some of the screenshots and video and the dungeon layouts, tiles and other things are pretty similar, though definitely not as lazy as the towns in 7th saga. Even the height and width of doors and chests in the dungeons are the same. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTn3j30m_3EShould help you see what i mean. clearly Falcom did massive changes since it's a real time action combat system and these games are turn based and somewhat random battle based but I'm just talking about the appearance.

After listening to the X6800 version, it kinda reminded me of the soundtrack from Castlevania Chronicles thanks to its familiar drumbeats. But since I always played the PC version, I still prefer listening to its original standard OST. My favorite OST is Sealed Time btw.
