So, I've been wondering about everyone's favorite poleaxe-weilding character (since I don't see much discussion about him). Namely, what does everyone think of him? Would you like to see him appear in a third Ys game? I take it he must be pretty popular, since he's a fairly recent addition to the cast of Ys and yet he's already appeared in two games.

Hm, I don't really like him, but I don't dislike him either. Ernst kicked his ass so bad he had to sic Adol on his awesome big bro though, so at least he knows his place.
I guess Geis can stay as long as he mentions Ernst once in a while. Maybe Ernst's spirit should just take over Geis' body and COME BACK FROM THE DEAD. YEEAAHHH

He's awesomely moody, and his battle technique is pretty neat. More Geis? Yes please!!

I like him as a slightly darker version of Adol's character type, complete with chronic savior syndrome (he's batting zero for two but I figure that's due to Adol's presence warping the structure of the narrative). Plus, with his occupation he's easy to fit into most any story Falcom could come up with so he's easy to reuse. I wouldn't mind giving him a break for a game or two in order to let some other characters shine but I'm sure we'll see him again.

What would he do, snark the enemy to death?

lol Tom, that comment made my day... "snark attack"
Maybe Ys 8 where it's Adol AND Geis... where Geis is reluctant to help but it's one of those "mysteries" that needs them both and can't be done alone?

One thing that I find interesting is that in both VI and SEVEN he doesn't really want to work with Adol, and frequently states that he doesn't even want Adol to get involved, but he is always forced to work with him in the end. Since to me he's like Adol's rival in a way, I'd love to see Falcom actually flesh this out a bit more, perhaps in a situation where Geis wasn't actually forced to team up with him due to the situation at hand.

I really like Geis. Didn't think much of him at first, but then I realized that he's pretty damn badass. And I'm not usually even that much of a fan of the moody types.
Between Adol's silent protagonism, Dogi's hilarious sidekicking, and Geis' moody badassness, I think they make a pretty good recurring trio.
SO MANY NONEXISTANT WORDS

I'm a big Geis fan. If it weren't for Adol he'd be my favorite character in the series(at this point, I think Geis is used to placing 2nd, behind Adol, it happens enough). I'd be OK with him showing up in a bunch of future games... he's way badass and awesome to fight. I'm not sure if I like his Ys 7 character design much though, don't know if its just the art style or what, but between the double bandana and better looking armor the Ys 6 version is just sweet.
And the way he kicks the admirial in Ys 6.... priceless.
"Shut your fat mouth, I don't need you anymore." *kick*
Still gives me goosebumps.

Okay I'm gonna go anti-Geis here. I had no problems with him in Napishtim since it was his first appearance, but his whole presentation in SEVEN wreaked of cliche and lack of character development.
He's the stereotypical dark antagonist turned marshmellow boy who keeps acting antagonistic towards the hero and "begrudgingly" helps him. See Piccolo & Vegeta in DBZ, Knuckles in Sonic (eventually gets watered down to "friend with an attitude" status), Meta Knight in Kirby, Protoman and Bass/Forte after Protoman reaches official good guy status in Mega Man. Sure they're popular for their first couple of appearances because they are edgy and cool, but if they remain like that then there's no character behind the generic snark. And that's all I've seen out of the Geis character so far.
If he shows up in the chronologically next Ys game, then we better see some real character development.

I have to agree with what Schlag said. I wouldn't mind seeing him again, but I'm not terribly fond of characters like him. I mean, he's not bad at first, but then he just gets on my nerves after a while, constantly putting up that front. I realize that that's kind of his thing, but still...

I can see how you guys feel that way, but I'm a fan of the friend-with-attitude 'personality'. Moreover, I'm a fan of anyone who can kick serious ass and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty, so that mean Adol, Dogi, Chester, Karna, Geis.

I thought Geis was cool in VI, but in Seven I really liked him. My favorite team to use in Seven was Adol, Dogi, and Geis. I used that team so much that I had to spend more time leveling other characters at the end because I had neglected them.
One thing I didn't like about Geis in Seven was his attack using the three fairies. I just felt like he was too strong to resort to using them.

I disagree about Picolo, he was a punk for a short time, but, he deffinitly became friends with everyone in quite a short time! Vegata stayed a punk much longer, but even he settled down a bit!

Piccolo was a punk for a short time?? He was a punk since DB, and it carried over to DBZ -- I thought. Maybe I'm just wrong, and thinking of someone else, but didn't he almost have the entire world in the palm of his hand at some point?! Why does Goku's tail grow back, and why doesn't he have it in DBZ?? I missed a LOT... Oh hey, Ys, Geis, nice to see you!!! I have to agree, a rivalry game of sorts would be pretty cool!! Racing against Adol to level up, hunting for treasure, finding secrets, solving mysteries and fighting bosses??? That would be so epic!!! It would almost be the opposite of The Four Swords (GBA), a *completely* competitive ARPG!!! (Though, I liked the co-op side of The Four Swords as well... so add Dogi!!) I'm getting way too excited over a game that isn't happening! I wish it was!!

Vegata stayed a punk much longer, but even he settled down a bit! Actually, when you think about it, the majority of the bad stuff that happens in DBZ is Vegeta's fault. What a punk.

Isn't that how the writers of DB and DBZ introduce characters? I could be wrong here, but I think EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER started as a villan, even Goku.
-Began as evil: Oolong, Yamcha and Poire, Krillan was a rival/against Goku, Ox-King, Tien and Chiaotzu, Piccolo, Vegeta, the Androids
-Began as good: Goku, Bulma, all of Goku's instructors, Chi chi, children of good guys

Krillin was hardly a rival, he was a bit of a douche for his first few episodes trying to upstage Goku in the training and trying to brown nose Roshi but that was for all of 4 episodes tops. Yamcha was a "bad guy" longer.

That's just what happens in a universe where beating the crap out of each other is how martial artists say hello. See also: every wuxia film ever produced.

I just had a great mental image of a lone warrior arriving at a martial arts school and going crazy. Then afterwards everyone drinks hot chocolate and laughs.
