Somehow I doubt I could watch that going at 1/2 dial-up speed. WiFi split dial-up is just bogus!

Thank you for giving me a new game for my JAP games list! Metal Wofl Chaos looks great! I tend to keep a good distance from sports and racing, because they entertain me as much in game form as in actual form (Kendo's the only sport I can even WATCH aside from UF). Likewise, I dislike most fighting games, and find them trivial. I generally keep away from platformers, though a few fall through the cracks by impressing me enough. I think Pitfall caused enough trauma to give me a bad impression of the genre as a whole. I have a love/hate relationship with FPS', I seldom play them, but once and awhile I'll indulge and actually enjoy it (soo naughty). Though mostly, I just fire up Unreal Tournament 2004 twice a month to deathmatch some bots on the next to highest difficulty setting. And while I actually LOVE RTS' and RTTs, I seldom play either. The former has more to do with speed than strategy, and the same rehashed pattern of resource gathering/rushing has gotten kind of old. RTTs and realistic non-modern war sims are better, as battlefield strategy is one area I excel at. . . unfortunately, most of these games just aren't very good, and I haven't played any since the Warhammers on the Playstation. Likewise, I'm good at nation building types, like Nobunaga's Ambition, Medieval: Total War, etc, but I avoid them for one reason: I avoid most games which don't have some sort of story. Some games are fun enough that I'll play them even though I'm not absorbing anything in the process, but I always feel kind of guilty afterward for wasting the time.

I generally focus on RPGs so I end up ignoring all other genres but if I have to pick some genres I avoid, these would be it: Sports and racing are definite no-no for me for the same reason some people in this thread dislike them. I also don't like fighting games; I never seem to be able to get combos right on time and most of them have too many button sequences for me to remember. I don't mind strategy games as long as they are simple. I can't play games like Starcraft because I can't make use of hotkeys and I completely suck at resource allocation. On the other hand, I enjoy playing games like Myth where you start off with the set number of units in each mission. I know what each unit does well and doesn't do well and do not have worry about running out of mineral or gas. Visual novels I typically don't bother with since most of them have way too complicated settings (Nasuverse I am looking at you). It just puts me off. I like my entertainment simple. I also avoid shooters because I am a perfectionist when it come to video games. For most shooters, you need to be really good at it in order to unlock secret contents (like beating the whole game without dying once). While I look for challenge in games, it takes way too many repetitions. In most RPGs, one needs to beat it only few times or just look at the guide in order to unlock secret contents. Even guide doesn't really help with shooters.

I *hate* most twitch-reflex fighters. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza is the only exception to this rule, because it's fairly easy to pick up. The combos and special moves are INCREDIBLY easy to pull off. It takes just about everything your average twitch-fighters did wrong (like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, ugh... friggin' mash-fests...) and spiffs it up. So instead of a mash-fest, you actually get to plan your moves on the go, act and react properly, and it's actually rewarding!
I LOVE "party fighters" like the Smash Bros. trilogy. I definitely need to check out the anime mash-up and Hudson character mash-up fighters sometime.
// Can I play Metal Wolf Chaos on my 360S?!

Uh... Street Fighter being a twitch-fighter? That's the most bogass thing I've ever heard.
If anybody button mashes in Street Fighter, they're clearly playing like dicks. Mortal Kombat is pure garbage, through and through, but if you take Street Fighter 4 for example, button mashing will only get you killed.
In (S)SFIV you do exactly what you said:

classic Mortal Kombats aren't bad (with Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 being the best). They just have some severely unbalanced things about it and play unlike any other 2D fighter. I have high hopes for the new one coming out. But still.. mash in MK and you're gonna get trounced. If you don't, then your opponent sucks too.
Go ahead and try mashing in any fighter for the Neo Geo (save Breakers Revenge) and prepare to cry.

Mashing in KoF won't even get you through the first few stages with difficulty all the way down and your defense and super gauge maxed out.
I would know, I've tried.

Yeah, I've been playing Breakers Revenge a bunch, holy hell, I can't see any balance whatsoever. But if it isn't fun as all hell! Pielle is awesome.
And, I MK's lack of balance and odd playstyle are exactly what make me not like it. Sometimes, I'm okay with little balance, but for extended play it's practically required. And I really can't get into the way it plays! O:
People talking about "crazy special move button inputs" are crazy, because a "quarter circle" and a "half circle" aren't hard to remember. We're talking basic geometry here, people!
Sometimes things like Akuma's crazy move, and the ultra move for Rock Howard are kinda crazy too.
But even so it's not that whacky.

Aside from my friend and I playing Tekken Tag Tournament at the arcade, I've NEVER seen anyone actually mash. :o
Every player that touches a cabinet with a fighting game seems rather serious and knows his/her stuff! D:

The up/jump button should NEVER be used in special moves for fighters -- jumping cancels out button sequences it seems... and believe me, MK DOES have some pretty sophisticated button sequences!
// and nobody answered my question:

Well, I mean some things include 8 or 89, like Zangief's 360 movement, or Fei Long's chicken wing movement, but you can get over those things as they're entirely doable, even without move buffers.

I generally stay away from sports games, sims, music/rhythm games and fighters.
Love RPG's, strategy, action/adventure, sandbox, puzzle titles and platformers, and do enjoy the occasional racing game, need to pick up Gran Turismo 5 soon.

Reading through the topic, I was simply going to say FPS and declare it le end of all my 'stuff I shall not play', until I came across this: I don't play horror games because I get heart palpatations from the scary parts. I mean, I'd love to play some of the really scary ones, but I actually can't. I enjoy watching them though! Smithee sums up my reactions towards horror games pretty well. X'D I used to love playing them, but ever since my friend moved away years ago, I haven't been able to pick up another horror game ever since. :'D It's kind of hard to play when ye end up throwing the controller away and covering your eyes and screaming when anything halfway horror-like happens. X'''D That said, I'd love to be able to play all of the Resident Evil games again someday. I loved them! T__T! As for FPSes, I have nothing against the content within them like so~! But... I kind of start suffering from motion sickness and have a headache for the rest of the day, so.... those kind of get kicked out from my list to play stuff. :'D Somehow, I never really touch shmups either~~~ I will probably be quite a failure at them anyways, so that's pretty much why I've never really bothered.... (But most shmups have the most loveliest musics! Gradius V!)

I recommend putting it in the fridge, where it can't get at you. I think that what would make a game REALLY scary would be if the vibration function went all crazy, shaking like mad. . . and then you realize you aren't using a dual shock controller with vibration. . . And personally, I don't play horror games for the opposite reason. I don't get scared. Of anything, really. I can be surprised once and a while, but never really scared. I do want to play the Resident Evil games sometimes (only played 1 & 4 so far), but all the other horror genre games just don't appeal to me. Same with scary movies. . . they just do nothing for me.

A friend and I were just discussing horror games and their lack of an effect on me. I'll preface by saying that I'm horrible with horror movies. When a student showed a few scenes from Ju-on in Japanese movie class in college, I could barely watch the screen... in the middle of the day.. surrounded by people. But I have zero problem playing horror games. Last time I played Silent Hill 2 was at midnight on Halloween, alone in my apartment with all the lights turned off. I think it's because games have rules, and you are in control. I know those rules and therefore it doesn't bother me at all. And the other amusing thing is games used to be able to freak me out. I once saw something that kept me from being able to start up my Sega CD for half a year. Super Metroid used to freak me out as well. Now? nothing.

I can actually handle horror movies like that, in those exact conditions for you playing SHII.
Funny stuff!
