I'm all over it. It took a lot of work just to finish FC in Japanese. And I mean A LOT.

I've already convinced 4 other people to buy it. 4 other people who didn't even know the game existed until I told them.

I'm not a programmer, but I'm not sure what the huge difference between the disc switching employed by PS Classics like FF7/8/9 and this would be. Harder than usual, sure, but surely not impossible.

Also, if the PSP2 is UMDless, Sony can kiss my ass. >_< I don't like being forced into digital distribution. One of the ways I pick up new games is by browsing shelves at game stores. Sure this discussion's been had a few times on the board, but anyway. Judging by the way Sony's been going and the amount of hate, justified or not, the UMD Drive has been getting from launch, it really doesn't seem as though the PSP2 is likely to have it. However, there is absolutely no way it's going to be downloads only either after the Go's spectacular failure, Sony themselves have said as much. So some kind of SD Card storage or whatever seems the most likely option. Either way, there'll be a physical option of some kind.

If you look at the file size of FF7, FF9, and some other PS1 classics, their file size are under 2 gigs. As you know the UMD is somewhere around 1.8 gigs. SC has 2 umd's and that makes it close to 3 gigs total. The problem is I think with the PSN server due to SC's total file size. It can be that PSN has a limit on the flie size of the game when its being uploaded. Plus, downloading a game close to 3 gigs is gonna take a long time for people who do not have a good connection. Would be interesting if XSEED decides to give a response to this.

Hey Tom, is there any chance Falcom could use the compression algorithm developed for Zero on Sora SC before they hand it off to you? From what I've heard, it could fairly easily compress SC down to one UMD.

I just want to say that if Falcom wanted to put SC on PSN and if file size is really the problem here, don't you think they would have tried that algorithm already. Falcom is not one who would be lazy and not try.

Falcom is not one who would be lazy and not try. I've already considered that, but I think it might be plausible, considering there's still quite a bit of time left before SC will be ready to ship. Besides, who's to say they won't try it later? Unless they already stated it outright, anyway.

Really don't think file size is the issue here, there's plenty of big files up on PSN, particularly seen as you can rent HD movies and stuff on there. 3GB isn't that big these days. Even though other stuff might not have file size restrictions, it is still possible that Sony preset a file size restriction when uploading games unto PSN. Falcom did say the technical problem came from it being 2 UMD. Besides a coding problem, file size is what comes to my mind. Also, you are aware PSN catalog appears differently when accessing on a PSP than accessing it from a PS3 or PC.

That is PS3 different from PSP. I should have clarified earlier, I believe the restriction is on PSP games.

I'm totally buying this! The insanity required to actually give these games a shot in English is worth both my respect and my money. Even if it just sits unplayed on my shelf. Which it will, being that I...um...don't really play Japanese games in English anymore. :'D

I probably will play it just to play along with all the English players and see the quality of the translation. Which will hopefully be good!

Have to give FC a warm reception to ensure plans for SC don't suddenly go under. Nobody deserves to be left on such a horrible cliffhanger for all eternity. D: There is that. Though I've played it recently enough that I'm not sure I'd be up for another playthrough just yet. Especially since SC and 3rd play in basically the same way. I'm pushing toward 150 hours of solid SnK-ing over the last year. :'D I guess it's been a bit longer since you played them? Or did you replay the whole thing before Zero?
