In another game. There is no double jump in Ys 6. There is the dash jump, but double jump was introduced for Oath in Felghana.

The game was not programmed (or in this case ported) by idiots; they're not going to make a challenge dependant on an ability you don't actually have. Dash jumping and Ericcil's lightning charge are your tools.

Learn the Dash-Jump. It's a miserable experience, till you get used to it.
Tap the direction, them press attack and jump in that order within mere moments of eachother. The Double Jump was Falcom's apology for the dash-jump, imho...

No, Dash Jumping is a miserable experience even after you get used to it.

No, Dash Jumping is a miserable experience even after you get used to it. You have a point. I hope in some later game Dogi has wall crushing abilities like bombs in zelda, cracked walls and all that.

And that just goes to show how everyone's experiences can vary. I loathed dash jumping throughout the game but found Livart's timing easy after a few minutes.

Ys VI with Dash (run quick, not dash jump) and Double Jump would have been amazing

Jumping is a pain no matter which Ys it is >< Well it didn't bother me in Ys III: WfY. But yeah, anytime I'm playing a top-down-view game (or a 3/4-view, as the case may be), I probably shouldn't be asked to jump.

I'll be honest, the jumping is pretty much 100% the reason I prefer the combat hands down over say, Link to the Past...

It only took me about 30 seconds to figure it out! Then again, I also spent the time to learn the just attack timing for every weapon type in PSU. But I still can't do the dash jump. I think I pulled it off once in 20 minutes of trying.

I can dash jump all the time but still tend to screw up Livart's whirlwinds in combat. Out of combat I can do it all the time. (also as an aside: I played Napishtim before PSU introduced Just Attacks)
And I can never intentionally do the power attacks in Origin.

You know, I repeatedly tried to dash-jump across the little isolated columns that you find along the top half of one of the east-west corridors in the Ruins of Amnesia, but after the first dash-jump, I can never seem to do another one in a row... so I never got to see if anything was up there.
I can do one dash jump fairly easily, but not multiples in succession, is what I'm saying. Not without room to back up and PREP the thing.
Certainly, I prefer the double jump mechanic.

To do a "Dash Jump Chain" varies according to the version you're playing.
Assuming you are trying to DJC in plain ground: PSP version: limited to rooms where framerate drops enough; PS2 version: not possible; PC version: Apparently there's some trick in that version using the mouse (mouse + keyboard? I forgot) that allows you to DJC freely anywhere.
I wonder where exactly in Ruins of Amnesia you wanted to reach, but... If you are under the "Slow" status (you can inflict that on yourself by equipping the Heavy Belt), you can DJC (same speed, but reduced height in the jumps) in any version of Ys VI.
I'm not sure if this would help, but you can gain impulse after using the Dash Jump, so if you DJC with 2 Dash Jumps, the 2nd one will travel farther. You can make use of this impulse in any version by equipping the Heavy Belt to attain the "slow" status, Dash Jump, pause, unequip the belt and equip an item that nullifies "Slow" or use that one consumable that also heals you from it, unpause, then Dash Jump.
Also, when you can't directly chain Dash Jumps, you can still "maneuver" your Dash Jumps so that you can use one after another with some small delay... You basically have to release the button (D-Pad, Analog Stick/Rub) that makes Adol go forward, after your first Dash Jump, then press it again, all midair. You can time it to your favour. Of course, by doing this, most of the previous Dash Jump's impulse is lost.
... I wonder if this was of any help at all. xD
Anyway ~ I also had lots of trouble getting used to the Dash Jump, but the more you use it, the more naturally it will come off. Nowadays I don't even have to think to execute it, but that's just thanks to habit, and I'm sure anyone else can do this, with some effort...
And needless to say, I <3 the Dash Jump. XD

To do a "Dash Jump Chain" varies according to the version you're playing. Assuming you are trying to DJC in plain ground: PS2 version: not possible; That's my version. If you check this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uFNpiGwPwEOur hero enters the area I'm talking about around 2:51-2:52. Look at the Northern part of the screen around 3:03. You can dash-jump to those narrow little pillars like the one you see in the upper-right part of the screen - I've done it. But once I jump to one pillar, I can't keep going past that. I wanted to explore what was up there, among that row of narrow little pillars. It must be possible, in theory. As he continues to walk to the right, (3:07-3:09) you can see even see a mass of land up there, past the pillar! But I can never, ever, ever get there. Around 3:30, we see how you would have to approach it from the RIGHT side - again, a narrow little pillar. And like I said, once I land on one of those, I can't dash-jump again. I don't have the room to do it without sliding right off the pillar during the dash. Maybe I should head back there on an old save game and try some of your chain-advice. Is anything even up there?

I think I know what you are trying to do. I was able to jump from pillar to pillar without any problems at all after mastering the dash jump. You don't need room to dash jump on those pillars. Just simply tap the D-Pad and execute your dash (forgot what buttons to push).
