So I'm a little confused as to the intelligence level of Galbalan. I just finished my first run through of the PSP port of Felghana and noticed some differences with Galbalan's speech relative to the PC English patch.
First a little reference matterial: PC Version Final Boss Cutscene
PSP Final Boss Cutscene
Given that the PSP version is the latest release I'd say he is supposed to be Intelligent. However, this doesn't quite gel with VI. First off, I'd like to know if these two scenes had the same Japanese script and because of the nature of the PC patch Galbalan's dialog never got edited.
Second of all, Given VI weren't the Galbalans made of ash emelas as a sort of guard dog for the Napishtim. I thought they were merely running on instinct programmed into them by the tribe of darkness. The PC dialog suggests this. But the PSP dialog suggests that Galbalan is a completely intelligent being who actively seeks the end of humanity.
So... What does everyone think? What is the true nature of Galbalan?

Well, Duece translated both the PC & PSP versions...I doubt Tom & co. made any kind of edits that would make him sound more intelligent then he's supposed to be. Also, I've always thought as the one's in Ark as being imperfect & ....not so grand, compared to the one in Oath.

I wanted to try to dismiss this as pedantry, but I can definitely see the case you make here. In both, though, Galbalan seems to have a one-track mind. He simply uses more words in the PSP version. That said, I'm passing this one off to Qui-Gon: "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent."
Does a pretentious signature change your perceived meaning of the post to which it is attached?
I would still like to know if the Japanese was identical in both cases and It's just better edited on the PSP version. The rest of the scene reads closely to Deuce's Script except for Galbalans lines. I guess only Wyrdwad can really answer this question.
I know XSEED bought Deuce's script for this. I also heard Falcom edited the dialog a little for the PSP release. I'm not sure of this though.

I think I brought that up when Felghana PSP first came out (I always felt he was more menacing in the PC translation). Deuce's translations are pretty literal so the PC version is the closest to the raw Japanese. His PSP speech was edited to complete sentences and given a bland voice over. IMO, a little bit of vocoding and ham goes a long way when voicing a villain. See Zophar.
Of course, I could be wrong. I do that some times. It keeps life fresh
"Ambition is the willingness to kill the things you love and eat them to stay alive."
In the end, the PSP version's translation is actually a bit closer to the original Japanese, save for the (potential) misinterpretation about Genos having white wings.
And IMHO, the original Japanese *definitely* suggests intelligence.
I personally don't think it's a mistranslation. I look at the mural and I defintely see Genos with wings. Also, his bloodline is the key to awaken Galbalan, so I don't see Elena and Chester as completely human. (Hell, the guy uses magic in the second fight.)
