As the topic speaks for itself, I have recently come across this wikia page devoted to Ys 7 and Ys Online: ysseven.wikia.com/wiki/Ys_Seven_Wikiscratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Ys_OnlineWhile there's only 15 pages for the first one, it got me thinking on a viable Ys wikia which can be a overall comprehensive wiki for the Ys series. This way, we can have a collective knowledge of Ys all in one place and prevent anymore splintering of future Ys wiki. I know that there's a wikipedia page devoted to Ys already, but like most wikipedia pages, it remains just a factual endeavor which just briefly describes the overall series. I envision the wikia page will be similar to other wikia pages where there's links to all boss fights with different strategies for low levels or time attacks. Where to get items, with pictures (along with descriptions) of how to access cleverly hidden secrets. Since this is definitely not just the work that can be accomplish with one person, I'm here to look for other motivated individuals who has a passion for the Ys series like me and is willing to chip in a bit of their time for this site. Any takers?

If I ever took up something like this, honestly, I would prefer not to use someone else's engine, but build my own... >_> Especially a wiki engine...

It is precisely looking for a Ys wiki that I ended up here. Browsing through the various threads I can see lots of people have deep knowledge of the series' settings and characters. It's a shame you have to be prepared to read a lot of posts to get to the answer you're looking for.

It would be a handy-dandy thing to have.

The only reason I I haven't, in the end, made something like that come true is because I ended up feeling satisfied with what's in this board, as it supposedly has (had? older spam thread deletion made many things get lost) everything about Ys. I agree a handy wikia page would be nice to have, though. I just don't volunteer, because I know I won't have the needed time to be commited with this. But I support the cause.

Is there a proper Ancient Land of Ys website at all? All I see is a discussion forum, but something that can be used to help build the said information site could be interesting.

I can understand wanting to host it ourselves instead of using a service like Wikia (if only to avoid the ads), but what would the point be in writing your own wiki engine instead of using one (like MediaWiki or somesuch)? I'm just curious. That said, I don't think I'd have a whole lot to add, but I think this would be a really cool thing to have -- and I'd be glad to contribute whatever I can to it. Could we use the Esterior Wiki that Floofy already made, or is that only supposed to be about the games themselves instead of things like that?

And it probably will never be updated, seeing how its webmaster has lost all(?) interest in the Ys series. Not all. He still has some interest, especially for the most curious things (Ys VI demos!) and games of kings like Ys II Special.

I'm just curious. My own website is an example of wanting to code it myself instead of relying on someone else's engine. I prefer to understand what I am using, from top to bottom and I do not want to risk any unwanted or unnecessary back doors to my website. Doing it myself means I know what goes in. I would consider doing up a similar-style engine (maybe one that might be easier to use?), but I simply have too much on the go as it is... >_>

I think an Ys Wiki is a great idea. I'm actually thinking that the Adventym site that I never quite got around to building as an actual website would serve better to be a wiki as well since the idea is to try and cover so many games that belong in a specific genre.
Anyhow, I've got a server with Bluehost that offers pretty much unlimited everything with databases included so I'd be happy to host it if you are looking for hosting.
Oh and you guys should think of a good domain name too if you are planning on having it run from a server rather than a service like Wikia. I'm sure some variation of Yswiki.com, allaboutys.com is available.

Hey guys, sorry for not updating in a while, I've been busy with work. Anyway, the reason I picked Wikia is because a lot of other game's wiki are already there so it'll fall under an umbrella game wikia. I see that this is certainly a great opportunity to give Ys more exposure because a site with lots of traffic will present a greater chance for people to stumble across Ys.
Also, the 2nd reason is that I can try to ask the other 2 Ys wikia sites I posted above to link under the "universal" Ys wikia site since they seem to have some work done already.
For anyone that's interested, I opted to use "isu" (the japanese hiragana spelling) of Ys because Ys was too short. : (

I would love to have a one-stop resource for all the monsters and bosses of the series, as that's always been my favorite aspect

I think I agree with Floofy. If the wiki were to be made for the Ys series, it would be better purposed to have it on a private server without advertisements. Plus, then you are not at the terms and conditions of Wikia in case their rules and regulations change.

TBH this is something I've been meaning to do forever, I even went ahead and bought a domain for it a long time ago, just never got around to it.
Though my plan was for it to be a broader Falcom specific wiki, not just for Ys.
Maybe I'll get back on it soon if people actually want it and would help me update it.

Well, since it's something I've wanted to do anyways, even if it's a competing product, decided to finally start on it on my free-time =0
If any graphic artists/web designers want to help me pretty it up let me know.
Otherwise I'll tackle it at my own pace ;0
Falcompunch.com !
(nothing there yet besides the base softwares)

What you suggest is really an FAQ. Wiki is more academic. Not everyone who reads Wiki will be a gamer. Therefore I think an illustrated printable PDF or a special website would be more appropriate, or even a webcomic.

I dunno, I have seen awesome wiki pages of games, which I don't think could have been better in other forms (aside from an unique website). But that's just me.

That is a point. Dunno if I could decide between them, if wiki became an FAQ site and also an encyclopedia, I mean, you have to include everything in it right? But youd still have to include a guide link since some readers wouldn't want to plough through a loong guide section...
