An excellent point. It's just ironic the ones that are riskier chances are the ones that don't suck, whereas most of the secure big blockbuster releases have become mediocre and stale. On that topic! I found a couple more examples of recent Square non-sucking. Handhelds, both (DS): Sigma Harmonics, an adventure mystery RPG. Detective game with card battles: And Saga II, a remake of. . . Saga II. Released in America in the good ole days of yesteryear as Final Fantasy Legend II. And there's an English patch! And a recent article I stumbled across: www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/08/08/editorial-the-incredible-shrinking-rpg.aspxWhile it does seem to be an accurate assessment, that RPGs aren't dead, they've just migrated. . . it made me sad for some reason.

I've been telling people to get used to handhelds for a while. Games don't need super awesome funktacular graphics to be good.

My issue with handhelds isn't with graphics, it's with handhelds. I even emulate DS games onto my television. (and most of the games I play are 16 or 32 bits) It's actually sad that people even associate modern console games just with new-gen graphics, as that really sums up the extent of their worth. I suppose the rising popularity of handheld gaming signifies that RPGs being relegated to them doesn't mean their death, but rather foreshadows the death of the home console. Which I still find sad. I don't want to have to buy a weird phone or wallet sized game system so I can play great games at the super market. I want to play great games in front of my television, as I always have. My old roommate (who was an AVID porn collector) enjoyed story porn! He'd even print out straight up porn STORIES from the internet. . . not sure where he stood on video game graphics, though (he wasn't a gamer). And Karura! First that innuendo link, now a porn analogy? Somebody's got her mind in the gutter!

Personally:
Handheld gaming? Yes. Phone on Handheld? NO! Console/PC gaming: Has its ups and downs. But when given the choice, I generally opt for handheld.
This is my order of preference, in fact, generally: Handheld -> Console/TV -> PC -> Phones From the most preferable to the least preferable.

Mmm... SaGa II
Being someone who played through (and still has) SaGaII, The remake does have a lot of the feeling from the first, including "Mr. S" being so overpowered compared to the rest of your team. Still, the battles feel slower... Hopefully they are not "PS1 Chrono Trigger" slow, or else I would have enough time to make a sandwich while the battle loads. >_>
