So..is this game actually any good? I was thinking about picking it up if it was, and if people play it.
I'm a pretty hardcore Castlevaina fan, so I just wanted to check around.
Is it worth the 14.99 initial purchase?
And what characters or download content do you recommend?
I'm going to get the one available on PSN, so I do not know if the DLC is any different than the xbox live version.

It is grind heavy. It reuses Metroidvania assets with no new content. To me it's only selling point (and original idea) is the multiplayer aspect and there is no local MP (admittedly due to the whole zoom in/out & free explore mechanic) which is also a huge strike against games in my book. IMO I don't like the game at all, but some due. Some just want the fanwank of playing reused Metroidvania assets. Even then I don't think it is worth $15. Wait for a sale

If you like the metroidvania games, I reccommend it, I spent my summer and fall of '10 playing nothing but this game, its pretty sad but the online is what makes it so addicting.

Awesome. I went and bought it. Since then i've mastered Soma, Fuma, Simon, and Alucard. I'm working on Julius and Richter now too. If anyone up for a round on psn, let me know.

PSN copy is better than XBLA, 'cause it has couch co-op. I'd play with ya it had cross-console compatibility. :/

Ryu I totally agree. Couch co op is awesome, but at the same time makes me rage. especially if someone runs clear across the map, it gets even smaller than usual.
If anyone else is interested, send me a pm on psn, names dragon_avalon.

I didn't know the PSN had couch, is why I couldn't play co-op on the 360.

Harmony of Despair is like a rash. On a concious level, you know it's bad for you. You shouldn't enjoy it. But somehow...it just feels GOOD when you scratch it really hard.
Enter at your own peril.

Too late. I think that rash has spread to my hands at the moment. It only goes away when my hands are on the controller. Dx

Done and done. I like Getsu's style, but Shanoa to me seems a bit stiff. I do wonder though, is Maria actually any good? and how is Johnathan?

Try Getsu Fuma and Shanoa. Wait. Did you say "Getsu Fuma"? As in, the guy from Konami's ancient game "Getsu Fuuma Den" who also was playable on Konami Wai Wai World 1 and 2?? I once considered putting that guy on my signatures aeons ago, but he wasn't THAT amazing, but he and his games are still awesome!

Watching a youtube video of the Getsu Fuma DLC makes me rethink my opinion on the game and makes me kinda want to buy it...

Yep! That's the one alright! Getsu's pretty badass in game too. That pulse blade does some serious damage! Might i also add Getsu Fūma Den is an amazing game in its own right? ^_^
And Shlagwerk, you should give it a try. I believe there's a demo up for download, but that only lets you play as Soma.
In the game the playable characters are as follows: Soma Cruz Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes (Alucard), Jonathan Morris, Julius Belmont, Richter Belmont, Shanoa, Charlotte Auln, Yoko Belnades, Maria Renard (DLC), Simon Belmont (DLC) and last, but not least; Getsu Fuma (also DLC).
Stages are taken from many games and include: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Getsu Fūma Den, Castlevania (original), Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, just to name a few.
