So, the character portraits are still stretched, correct? But everything else is in proper widescreen resolution?

Was just installing all the Ys games recently again on the PC for a complete playthrough, and have been enjoying them now in widescreen! (Thanks Xalphenos!)
But, the stretched portraits were bothering me, so I was trying to fix it before I played through again. I managed to extract and rebuild the .na archives using ysext, and was able to edit the .dds full portraits and other images with a nvidia plugin for photoshop. The only other images I really want to resize are the mini portraits, which are the most common! Unfortunately... The portraits are kept in an annoying .AIA format. Composed of multiple .dds frames (I think...), I was able to extract them successfully with Noesis. But, I can't figure out how to compile them back into the .AIA format after extracting...
I didn't find an option within Noesis... I did find a chinese program called Quest Lab, that handled the files, and it looked promising... But, I couldn't ever get it to save ANYTHING, despite being able to open quite a few files. It had a save function and possibly a pack function, but I had no luck at all. Argh!
If anyone knows anything about how to assemble .AIA files, please come forward xD I would try extracting and replacing the files via a hex editor or something, but with their fluctuating file sizes, I am lead to believe they AREN'T DDS files, or they are compressed... Maybe PNGs? But, I couldn't get Noesis to ever export the transparency layer with other files... ....ah well...
Been enjoying returning to Ys, using a controller for once. Found a driver to get force feedback working too. And I'm using the old enbseries to add a little fluff to the graphics. This all started because I wanted to play Ys Oath of Felghana with the old translation, but ended up finding out the translation was saved in a .dll file instead of the .XSO files that the steam version/original used... It would be too much effort to replace... That lead me to wanting to play the original translation with widescreen, and now I'm trying to prepare Ys VI... whew. Off topic a lot, it's pretty cool looking at the 3d stages...

Link to patch.Original post follows:I got the game to display 16:9 widescreen without stretching the gameworld or characters. The sprites and hud are still stretched but its better than nothing. Unedited exe Original resolution was 1600 x 900 Edited exe Original resolution was 1600 x 900 Uploaded with ImageShack.usTo do this open up the ys6_win.exe or ys6_win_dx9.exe, whichever you use, in a hexeditor. Search for ABAAAA3F which is 1.333333373 and replace it with 398EE33F which is 1.777777791 (16:9), or CDCCCC3F which is 1.600000024 (16:10). The offsets are likely different for the different versions of the exe, but the string should only be in the exe once or twice and any free hexeditor with basic search function should work fine. I have no skills beyond basic hex editing so maybe someone could take this info and turn it into something more user friendly. This also works on Ys Origin. Wow, thank you for your information to make Ys VI to show in widescreen mode. I tried your method to Ys VI standard edition v1.2.0.2 in Windows 10 64bit having 1600x900 display and oh! it worked. As you said, HUD is stretched though, just a little more I would like to ask you to improve HUD aspect. Years have been passed since you posted this information, maybe you had time to research this issue, if you got any further information to improve HUD display, could you post it to this space ? Thank you in advance.

Remember, this game is available domestically on Steam and GOG now, with full widescreen support across the board! -Tom

Ya, thank you for your information, Wyrdwad. Yes I know GOG or STEAM version enforced by XSEED have good widescreen mode , but I still would like to find the way to correct HUD distortion in widescreen mode of this old edition of the game. Waiting for the information.
