As everyone knows, SE released this amazing demo remake of the beginning scene in FFVII, but shortly afterwards announced that the game was only to show off the graphic capabilities of the PS3 and had nothing to do with a remake.
I've got this weird feeling about that.
If you were a game production unit and were making several spinoff games of a highly popular and bestselling game of yours on newer console platforms, why the hell not redo the original to be up to par with the rest of them? Why would they show an older game instead of showing off a demo of their up and coming FF game? That seems a little sneaky to me. If anyone can recall back when they said they weren't doing anything else with FFVII ever again (after the rumors started) and we continued to bother them and bother them and bother them, finally they up and blurted out "YES!! We're making a movie sequal! Now leave us alone!" I just get this feeling they're hiding something from us again. Maybe it's just me, but the company wouldn't pass up an opportunity basically for free money, which is what that game would be. I mean... I know it'd still cost for production and time spent, etc. But half of the battle is already over, the only thing they'd be revamping is the graphics engine, and they've already got a start from the Advent Children models. So what are they waiting for?
I don't know, that's just a theory, but anyone that's familiar with this, I'd like to hear your opinions on it so I don't feel like a lush.

I realy wouldnt be surprised if S-E decided to remake the original FFVII on multiple platforms theyve just been milking VII to death recently and its kinda making a lot of ppl i know (encluding die hard fans of the FF series) realy sick but some of those ppl always looked at FFVII as overrated... i myself didnt find it to be as special as ppl said it would be. But i seriously think that Square Enix will end up remaking FFVII. I'd like an FFVIII or even FFVI remake, personaly... (havent played FFIX, so that'd be nice too) but the hype is surrounding FFVII so thats much more likely.. its a little funny that they milk FFVII so much when FFVIII has been recorded to have sold the most in Japan out of the whole series, but I guess its cuz VII sold the most world wide... and cuz it's probably easier to make spin offs out of it. btw, the IGN FF board went practiacly ablaze because of that little demo flaming and craziness spread everywhere, quite funny (i dont post on the FF board, i just read around...) If you ask me, every FF would be much better in the form that Advent Children is. Sit back and watch the story unfold... i myself have never had much fun with FF's gameplay... but ive loved other things about it (story, plot, characters, that kinda thing). So if they could somehow just remake the game as a movie (or a series of movies) like AC, that'd be great, in my opinion.

Well, I'm just curious why they would be making spin-offs instead of remaking the original game, which is what all die-hard FFVII fans really wanted to begin with. I loved the game myself but all the sequals are starting to make me like it, and square, less and less.
I'm sure the actual demo itself has set a new fire to old fans that were waiting around for the remake, after the announcement of AC I know several people were highly disappointed and said they would not see the new movie, very few had a positive reaction to it. I wonder what's in store for the future?

Actually, PS3 announced that those were only in progress demos, the actual rendering software isn't even complete yet so mysteries are abound about that actually being what the games are going to actually look like. I myself refuse to believe that any of the trailers were more than just FMV, there's no way they could possibly get in-game graphics to look so much better than HL2 graphics in such a short amount of time, so I do have serious doubts myself.
As for the demo, yes that was a very good marketing choice on their behalf and I agree, it's not actually my favorite of the FF series (mine actually being japanese VI and american III, I still haven't finished american II yet) but it did happen to be the first FF game I'd ever played. It still has that place in my heart around there somewhere. Dirge of Cerberus doesn't seem the least bit interesting, nor does Before Crisis (The Turk game that for some reason has Elena in it even though she wasn't a Turk until actual FFVII took place), Crisis Core is supposively a compilation of the entire series, which I'm almost willing to bet is going to end up being a remake of the original, hence they have had absolutely no press releases on what the game will feature that I can find. I could be wrong.

Oh no, I'm perfectly aware of what was stated the PS3 abilities are to be. A graphics card more powerful than TWO GEForce 6800's. The Killzone 2 one was actually the one I'm mostly referring to. I've actually played Killzone 1 and the difference just appears to be a little too astounding, not to mention the actual gameplay that was shown seems to be a little lacking in the actual PLAYING department. I don't like games where you have to sit through almost 20 minutes of FMV before you actually get the opportunity to play for 10 minutes before the next FMV scene, and that's definitely what it felt like in that trailer.
I actually haven't had a look at the Unreal 3 engine yet. I'm trying to keep up-to-date with all the games coming out (in terms of actual gameplay not graphics) due to the fact that Adol and I are in process of creating an MMORPG (I'm the artist) and I need to know what I'm up against. As for PS3, I find it mostly hard to believe because of the graphics the XBox 360 was showing off, which seems so.. how to put this.. less advanced? I wonder though if producers of new games will be spending so much time messing with that new engine and not enough time actually creating a good game to play. Thusfar, the best looking one I've seen is the XBox 360 game: Dead Rising. Now THAT's a zombie game.
If you get a chance to look at Age of Empires 3 though, the graphics in that are almost comparable to those that the PS3 seems to be displaying, it will be nothing short of a miracle if we get these games and they actually do look this good. (Granted, on our TV the games will look like crap no matter what, but I have high hopes anyway.)

Im with the (IMO) very wise ppl i know that beleive Sony exagerates to the fullest extent. they boast that their console will be 50-or-so times more powerfull than PS2. They said the same kinda things and showed the same kinda amazing demos with the PS2 hype, but nothing like that came of the console. if history repeats it's self.. i dont think we'll be seeing things like that all that soon after PS3's release. I beleive they just built the confernece to be like that to destroy the direct competition's (Xbox 360's) hype into the floor before it ever got started. the games dont look all that fun either, though. Im not realy looking for immersion, im looking for fun. Ys doesnt have graphics like the big budget titles on PS2, yet i find it more fun than any of them. Im not so easily wooed BTW, what do you guys see happeining to Falcom and Ys next gen? if my guesses are right, if Falcom is to release anything on a console next gen, it'll be on Nintendo Revolution. Nintendo has stated that they wll be the most developer friendly and cost-efficient console to develope for as they are against the idea that a company need 100+ developers and billions of dollars in order to make great games. falcom neither has the budget, nor the amount of developers to create Ys on a "monster" like PS3, or maybe even Xbox 360. I cant wait for the revolution unveiling. all will be revealed. I cant wait to get my revolution and download Ys I, II, III, and IV for free, and legaly, using nintendo's internet download system (hopefully Falcom and it's various producers contribute to it) anyways, back on topic, i think the better announcement for FF fans should be that the series will continue eith FF XIII on the PS3. A new game beats a remake, imo.

Ofcourse, i know they will stick with PC at it's core.. but i was talking about ports/remakes and stuff... of those future PC games If Revolution becomes popular, maybe Falcom will be able to do the ports themselves, or it may be easier and less costly to create them or get themn produced. I hope we still see future Ys games (in english) over here, PC or Console...

Honestly with the FF series some of the actual producers are pretty p'd off. They call it "A multi-media system with the ability to play games." Not a game console. I really do hope that Falcom does stay smart and doesn't go the way of the Dreamcast by switching over to console gaming (again.) Although I'd like to see Felghana in a format that will actually be playable on my piece of crap.
