OMG ....it is as good as they say it is! Makes Castlevania look like Mario Bros...and that is hard for me to say!

Yeah, not really. Sure, it kills Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, but that was a turd of a game in any respect. GoW can't touch the REAL Castlevanias!

Then play Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow for the GBA... it's the closest thing to SotN around, and by its own rights, an absolutely amazing game. In some ways, better!

Well every castlevania I have played has been beyond excellent....the best one so far IMO is Dracula X for the Turbo Duo/PC Engine.
However I am totally amazed with God of War.

Dracula X - Rondo of Blood was the last real CV game to come out implementing the "old" style. SotN and its ilk (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow) all follow the "Metroidvania" style.

( ) There's Akumajo Dracula XX / Vampire's Kiss for the SFC/SNES. That was released in 1995. But sure, it's a semi-remake of Chi no rondo, but I'd still count it as an entirely new title.

I agree. Symphony of the Night is - without doubt - the most entertaining game I've ever played. It cannot be explained with words and it is much more fun than any Ys game will ever be (Ys has other superior qualities, though). Symphony of the Night is nothing else but a masterpiece. Definitely on my top-10 list.

Ahh, but Seldane, Dracula X for the SNES (aka Vampire's Kiss) is merely a stripped down and tweaked port of Rondo of Blood. Konami considers them to be the same game... they ARE the same game, only in the SNES version there's less of everything (though better graphics, at least.)

Ys Book 1 and 2 is still a superior game IMO compared to any castlevania, however like I said I have not played SOTN yet, but there is always ebay calling me.

SotN used to be pretty rare about 2 years ago, I think, but apparently a tiny print run trickled out again, and now you should be able to find it without having to pay too much. It really is a great game, though admittedly, I don't put it on the same pedestal as Seldane, apparently.
