So I'm in the Lava Zone and the Zuals (the tiny diving birds before you fight the fire dragon) keep disappearing. I started observing them and after they complete a dive, they keep going down through the floor instead of coming back up. Also sometimes I watch one dive in the complete opposite direction of where I am. Any one else seeing this?

I've reported this to Wyrd, also. I don't remember it happening in the Japanese version.

It's not in the Japanese version (going from memory here, though...) but I don't recall ever having issues killing these guys before they disappeared in the 12+ times I've played through Felghana in the JP PC and PSP versions. .. though that was on 32-bit XP and I'm in 64-bit Win7 now...
I don't know how the enemy behavior got changed, but it looks like it is a blatant misplaced negative value. The birds fly down after a dive instead of going back up. The random diving in the exact opposite direction was also curious but it didn't always happen
If I can find the time over the weekend I could try reinstalling the JP PC version on my Win7 box and see how Zuals behave

I got a bug question too. Is this platform supposed to be white or is it a graphic bug? E: at the time of editing this post it is still white

I got a bug question too. Is this platform supposed to be white or is it a graphic bug? I've definitely seen that from the disc version after applying the translation patch.

I remember seeing someone else comment on that after using the translation patch, and I thought a fix/workaround was found... but I don't remember which topic that was.

That was me Change your non Unicode language to Japanese. It's trying to read texture file names with Japanese characters in them. This will crop up with origin too

They didn't fix the texture bug for the steam release? Really? It was talked about in another thread its a call to getACP that is returning the us codepage and not the Japanese that it expects. (same bug as in origin) It is easily fixed, Though I lacked the ability to unpack the main exe to make a permanent fix. They should have been able to fix it for an official release. Color me disappointed. I'm still going to pick up the steam version though, probably tonight.

I didn't mean to offend. I'm very greatfull for all your company has done for Ys. I was more disappointed that the bug still persists to this day. Since Nightwolve said what the problem was and how to fix it years ago. He just never fixed it because of what happened. When getACP returns anything other than the Japanese codepage that texture dosn't show up. I have no Idea about file names effecting it. The same thing happens in Origin. My aspect correction patches fix it for Origin by supplying the Japanese codepage regardless of what the users system is.
Again thank you for all you've done for us. I will be buying Felghana tonight or tomorrow and I hope you can bring trails in the sky to steam as well.

It should be fixed now (we didn't have it fixed at launch because it never happened to us in any of our test cases, since we all had Japanese language support installed on our computers!), as of yesterday's patch... but apparently it isn't? As I recall, Sara patched it so the filename would no longer contain any Japanese characters whatsoever, so there's no reason it should still be happening. I told her, though, and she's taking another look at it. But geez, disappointed because we missed an obscure and non-intrusive ground texture issue that none of us were personally experiencing... for a day? I think you might have the bar set a bit too high for a company that's only been dabbling in PC gaming for a couple months now. We're still getting the hang of this! Give us a chance! Geez! -Tom I'm darm happy for the bolded part. Thanks a lot XSEED But this Japanese language support on computer? What does it actually mean? My PC does understand Japanese for some part (at least in Ys Origin installer I can see the letters normally). I have my system locale set for Japanese. I didn't buy anything extra for my Windows 7 premium.

Okay, so here's the basic deal. That texture uses a Japanese filename, which seems to be a slight mistake rather than intended, as it's parsed slightly differently between the data file builder and the game itself. The data file is built on the assumption that, for example, a Z is the same regardless of whether it's multi-byte or ANSI, while the game parses such things in a codepage-aware manner.
NightWolve's fix back in the day was basically to force the Japanese codepage for filename handling (much like it sounds like that aspect patch for Origin forces it in general), which of course fixed the issue for the user, but it's not REALLY a proper fix for Western PCs. The real fix here would be to fix all of the filenames directly, and that's what I intend to do.
I did that for this texture, but I'm not intimately familiar with the program for working with the game maps etc, so it's possible it didn't work quite as I intended. I'll have another look at it, don't worry. Sorry about that, though.

I'll be around. Though e-mail validation doesn't seem to be working for me...
In any case, I also wanted to remark about the issue with the Zuals; I have no idea what's going on there right now, but we definitely didn't make any changes that should have effected that.
The game did get updated to work with modern compilers, though, and for all I know it might be effecting that behavior slightly. It'll get looked at, but it's kinda low-priority right now.

I just uninstalled the fan translation and bought the steam version. The FMV's have been cleaned up Hey Wyrd, Is there an ETA for Ys Origin. The text overflow made it imposable for me to finish the patch. I'm really happy you guys are releasing Falcom's PC stuff now.

A pleasure to have your presence on this board, Sara. Welcome!
And... HEY!
Something just occured to me.
This is Steam-XSEED-Falcom-related, although not quite ontopic, but... Since now you three are releasing Falcom's PC games in English on Steam...
What about the PC version of... Ys V? Falcom released that with Project EGG's help, once separately and once bundled with Ys I~IV.
I know it was pretty much just an emulation rather than a real PC game, but I believe and hope it's close enough for considering bringing something of that kind to English-speaking audiences.
And, I know for that Project EGG would have to take part in the whole Steam/Falcom/XSEED deal, but something like so would be pretty sweet, I think; Perhaps a "test" could be done, and if it goes well in terms of sales, perhaps more Project EGG games could be brought over to Steam?
Just an idea. Roughly.
Edit: P.S.: Deuce has translated its script as well, and has it under his possessions, in case that's relevant.

Nice to meet you, Sara. As for the Zuals, I played the Japanese patched version many times, and don't remember ever noticing that bug, so it's a pretty good assumption it didn't happen before.
PS: I just checked, and the texture bug's still there.

Not as of yet. We're working as quickly as we can, though, so hopefully it won't be tooooo long a wait. -Tom And this is where we all say *WORK FASTER*! Food, sleep, potty, love, exercise, hidration....who needs these things?!? A pleasure to have your presence on this board, Sara. Welcome! And... HEY! Something just occured to me. The first thought that comes to mind(especially with Wyrd not commenting on this) is that Falcom probably already has a full remake in mind sometime after Celceta, so, they may not want to revisit that version of Kefin.

I'd rather say take your time and make sure it works. Ys Origin was more of a pain to get working right on everyone's system than Felghana was. And then I'll say WOK FASTER* to get Xanadu Next, Zwei, TitS, & Napishtim out *initial typo found humorous enough to leave in Nice to meet you, Sara. As for the Zuals, I played the Japanese patched version many times, and don't remember ever noticing that bug, so it's a pretty good assumption it didn't happen before. Still curious about what OS you are running and 32 vs 64-bit
