Hello, I came here from SDA (if anybody cares) to find out if the people here can help me. I am planning to do speedrun attempts on this game in the near future and the first thing I'll be doing is trying to drastically improve my boss times. However, regarding the rest of the game, I am still relatively clueless as to how to achieve the best time. My main questions are:
1) How to level? Killing enemies in your path vs. running through and simply grind in a good room before bosses.
2) What is the "fastest" level to be for each boss, meaning when is it worth to grind a bit to kill a boss faster and when is it better not to?
3) Is there a good and fast way to make use of the extended air combo sequence break to the mountains? What I mean is: Is it ever worth it to go there to powerlevel, saving time? About which level should you be to be able to kill reasonably fast? Which equip?
4) Are there any sequence breaks besides the ones involving the extended air combo?
This is the first place I started looking around so I am still very uninformed about this game (speedrun wise) and I hope you guys can help me.
Any opinions/answers are appreciated. If there is a good, recent speedrun video of this game (probably the WR is held by a Japanese runner, I am guessing at least) that would be of GREAT help. If anybody does runs of this game already: a written guide of what you are doing (and maybe why) would also be good.
Thanks a lot for any kind of info!

There's a topic on SDA for the PC version already, though I don't think it's been updated in a while. Anyway, I asked a skilled player known as "gaiachaos2000" (seriously, check some of his YsF videos on YouTube, if you haven't already) for advice for the would-be runner, and here's the important stuff he told me (the first thing is regarding a run done by another user - not sure if it's up on Nicovideo anymore):
I don't think I can help you much more than that, as I don't know a whole lot of "advanced" stuff about this game. You could try contacting gaiachaos for more assistance, but he did tell me (a little while back) he wanted to do a run himself someday.

Hello and thanks!
I already pm'd gaiachaos on youtube, but I guess that is a bad way to contact him. Do you know how to reach him at the moment?
For the doble jump, I never meant to completely skip it. I just wanted to know if it's worth to go to the mountains earlier than you should to gain levels, but I don't think so.
I will watch that vid on nicovideo if it's still up and hope that I will be able to reach gaiachaos some time.
In any case, thanks for the answer!

YouTube is how I contacted him, but I think he also goes by "BlackBean" on these forums (at least, I think that's him).
About going to the Elderm Mountains early, I don't know if it's worth it for early leveling, but in the Nicovideo run, it was the first place the guy went, in order to get larger gold drops from the pots and such (I don't remember what he bought, though - one of the weapons, I think). I'm not sure of the specifics, but you can get there without Double Jump by using Boost mode + jumping slashes, or something like that (really tricky to do, as I recall).
Well, good luck if you do a run!

I guess you posted this before I was in your stream :S Anyways, as I already told, I tried YouTube and his xanga site, just have to wait now. I still couldn't find that speedrun on nicovideo, all I can find is either time attacks or casual stuff. Not knowing the name of the runner doesn't help either :/ I think I know all the major sequence breaks now that are confirmed to work and be useful, however, if there has been a new discovery recently, I wouldn't know about that one. Guess it will come down to gaiachaos since he a) knows probably more about time savers and boss strats than every other westerner b) knows the good Japanese players and could give me names maybe.
Also, the Elderm Mountain skip isn't too hard, I tried it 3 times and can do it consistently now. It's just doing two jump slashes as soon as you star the jump and then, chaining a neutral air attack and after that continuing with airstrikes (in case you were curious :x)
