Rule 1 - Basic Standards and Decency.
Spamming is allowed in the S-spam..? topic. Spambots are prohibited and are banned immediately.
Bumping is allowed, just ask Adol.
Flaming, trolling, belligerence, defamation, condescension, vengeance, hostile rallying, mistreatment, or harassment for any reason, is a major offense. If it isn't peaceable, and/or it makes another user's time here unpleasant, then it isn't cool.
If you cannot peaceably disagree or resolve an issue with another user, please discontinue or take it to PMs.
Please use spoiler tags. Untagged spoilers can be annoying, but we understand that accidents can happen. Even if you think that a game, movie, comic, etc. has been out for "so long", there is always a chance that you could be spoiling it for someone else. New members are always signing up, many of which are just recently learning about Ys, Legend of Heroes, Trails in the Sky, and so on. If the end boss is a fish who wants to gobble the Earth up because it looks like a giant blueberry, we generally don't want to learn of it from anywhere but the game itself.
Sharing large, forum-stretching images without using spoiler tags is a minor offense, but a major annoyance. Please use spoiler tags to keep our forums clean.
Please note: Disagreeing with your point of view, even if you really like your point of view, does not make someone a troll.
Rule 2 - Piracy.
Games: 16-bit era (SNES/MD etc) and under only please. For PC, arcade and anything else without a specific era - 1996 and earlier. Translation patches from any era are fine - but must not be prepatched to the game. In the case of 16-bit games with modern ports - neither the original, nor the port may be shared.
Music: Game music rips only. A rip is the raw game music data either directly emulated through a special player (Foobar has some excellent plugins) or converted to MP3s. No copies of commercial albums (game or otherwise) are allowed, however, linking to streamed videos is acceptable.
In all cases please link directly to the file, not a website/post/blog, etc. No multiple ROM files or mass download links.
Rule 3 - Be excellent to each other.
You are the ALoY community, this place is what you make it. You are expected to treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. If you cannot think of a way to make a post without insulting another users mother, a cynical .gif or comparing them to Hitler - don't do it.
Rule 4 - Insubordination.
This includes disobedience of authority, and disobedience of the rules. Major offenses will be resolved by our three-step program -
Please note: Disagreeing with the rules is not the same as disobeying the rules. We value your input, but please do keep it peaceable.
Mods, modding, and you -

Mods, modding, and you -
- These rules will be applied with a *very* thick helping of common sense.
- If you don't wish to be modded, don't breach the rules.
- Rules apply to all members equally - including staff.
- Moderators will make decisions as a team, to avoid unfair, hasty, and biased treatment of any member.
- When moderators cannot reach an agreement on a decision, they will err on the side of caution.
- Moderation decisions are based on posts, not people - don't take it personally.
- Moderators are not and can not be expected to be available 24/7. We will not see each and every post, as we simply have not had and will not have the time. If you have any concerns regarding a post, do not hesitate to click the "Report to Mod" link at the bottom of the post. Regular users are just as capable of reporting as we are capable of moderating.
