Crystal Chronicles was pretty good. But it was more Secret of Mana than Final Fantasy.

68 hours and climbing. Still have stuff to do, still haven't touched optional dungeon. I haven't spent this much time on an RPG in years. Nice. 108 hours here...and still not even close to being finished. I'm currently roaming the world for treasure chests and infamous monsters. Once I'm done with that, I aim to finish the defeated monster list, complete the alchemy recipe and item collection lists. At this rate, I'll probably be done at 150+ hours. I'm not really a completionist nor am I a perfectionist. It's just that I want to get the most out of a game if I really enjoy playing it. That said, I haven't played an RPG this good in years.

I may grab DQ8 eventualoly, problem is putting that much time into a game is daunting to me these days even if I love it, I mean SMT Nocturne is probably my favorite JRPG for this generation, and I haven't even finished it, mainly because I got new games after it and started playing them, and eventually it fell by the wayside.
That's why I have come to adore shorter games recently. I don't need 100+ hours of bloated gameplay, (not saying SMT was bloated) I think I prefer 10-20 hours of tightly paced gameplay. But hell, that could just be me.

Despite all my expectations I'm enjoying DQVIII.
I had pretty much given up on the traditional RPG style following some bitter disappointments and essentially losing my patience with random encounters and menu battle systems. I bought this for the FFXII demo (I know, I know). A couple of nights of downtime on EVE Online led me to give it a go and it's charm has won me over.
I'm only about 6 hours in at the moment, but even that is a huge victory for this kind of game. I feel like I'm going to take it all the way. Quite a pleasant surprise.
As for the FFXII demo, I love it to bits. I've been waiting for FF to really shake up, and the team working on it had my hopes raised immensely (I count FF Tactics and Vagrant Story among my favourites).

That's more good news about FFXII I've heard. Man, I definitely have to get Dragon Quest VIII. Not one person here has said anything negative about it. I was just listening to the DQ VIII OST today.

Wish they had more boss battle themes, kinda gets a little bland by the end of the game.

I noticed Mr. Sugiyama doesn't really put out those massive four disc soundtracks like in FF or WIld Arms, only to name a couple. This is the first Dragon Quest OST to have two discs. The others had two discs but one was always an orchestra cd. This time there was no orchestra disc, you have to buy that separately as far as I have seen. The cool thing about DQ though is that the piano cds almost always have the full soundtrack. To do that in FF would be a huge undertaking.
Started playing it today and I'm loving it! Wouldn't change a thing!
