Hi , does someone played Shining tears on PS2 ? The game is coming to PC (play-asia), and seems to be a really cool action-RPG. Naturally I feel interested. But I would like to know if the game is good ?, understandable for a non japanese speaker ?, what kind action-RPG it is ? (Ys like, Zwei like, diablo, zelda...?) So ?

I've got the PS2 version. It's terrible.
The graphics are really nice, it looks like they're hand-drawn, but the actual game is really boring. It's extremely linear, you can't walk around and do stuff like in a traditional a-rpg. This is like Shining Force, you can't make any choices whatsoever, you can ONLY follow the game exactly as it was meant to. Therefore -- you talk, you fight a battle (and you must win in order to proceed), you talk some more, you fight another battle, you talk, etc.
Playing the game in Japanese sounds like a really bad idea, since 50% of the playtime is talking.
Beware of this game.
Another thing -- the battle system is decent. You swing your sword like in the Mana games, etc. rather than a tactics-based battle system a la Shining Force (which I hate), so I'll have to give the battles some credit.

Yeah ok. don't you have a vidéo ? ah Seldane, how many games do you own ? seems you got them all... is there other a-RPG on PC (from japan) interesting ? (I really love that kind of game : zlda, mana, Ys, diablo...)

You can find many videos here. Well, I always get all the new PS2 RPGs, they all seem so interesting. Sadly, they usually aren't. Still like to stack up on the ole RPG pile. Well, there aren't that many a-rpgs for PC, but if you haven't gotten Xanadu Next yet -- do that! The game is fantastic! Probably the best game I've ever played (yes, even better than Ys). I suggest you to get a PS2 if you like action rpgs, since you'll find many of 'em there. I highly recommend Radiata Stories. Shining Force Neo is pretty good too.

Well xanadu I tried it. It's just ok for me. A Diablo like (but the student doesn't compare to its master D2...), but with some so so graphics. sorry but it's quite cubic. bard's tale or BG dark alliance have better graphics in my opinion. but I will definetly buy it. No thanks for the PS2. Have already a PC and a gamcube (zelda...). enough gaming machine at home. Ah I've seen som screens on wander wonder, how is that game ? video ? ... ah and ZWei ? is it like mana's ?

I haven't played Wander Wonder that much, but it's on my "must play" list. Definitely. I already love it. I have no videos of it. But I could take some screenshots later. Zwei? I really don't like that game, but then again -- I haven't really played it that much (yet). Oh, would you be willing to play games on older systems via emulation? I can give you a long list of a-rpgs for older systems. Heck, I'll do it anyway. Just you wait.

Yes I know very much on emulation. But I don't want to play them anymore. Graphics essentially don't fit me anymore. ok for zelda a link to the past (but finished it maybe 5 times so...same for mana) . If you had a real saturn emulator to run my rayearth game... coz I can't make it play on my PC. That would be great.

I was just going to recommend Magic Knight Rayearth. That game is simply amazing. One of the best game's I've ever played. There's a new emulator out, but the website was taken down almost immediately. Cassini 4.0. Yes -- 4.0! I have only managed to find 1.0 (falsely labeled 2.0) on the Internet. Anyway, this new emulator is simply the best Saturn emulator. I'll upload it just for you! It includes all necessary BIOS files, and I guess that's why you won't find it online anymore. It also includes several plugins. Cassini Emulator 4.0 (14,4 MB)

Open the program - click "Cassini BIOS" and select the one you need. Then click Cassini Plugins and select a good video driver. I have only gotten DX8 (most compatible) to work. Oh, and I will play Zwei someday. I've heard the Japanese in it is pretty simple (I believe you said it) so I guess that would be a pretty good game to play in order to practice reading. I'm trying to teach myself Japanese (although at a very slow pace). When I've gotten better at it, I'll attempt to play Zwei.

If nothing works, the game isn't compatible with Cassini. There's nothing you can do to fix that unfortunately. Get a Saturn. If the game won't work with the emulator, it will always crash at the Saturn logo.

Try Falcom Classics. It works great. Falcom Classics II also works fairly well. (YsII runs fine [but the music is messed up], but Asteka II has problems.)
You could also try Shining Wisdom. It's a pretty good action rpg for the Saturn. As far as I know, it should work just fine with Cassini.

Ok AH Seldane, I reinstalled Zwei, but i can't play it coz I run the little pet box, but I can't see where the launch button is. Do you remember how to launch the game ? I remember there was a button or something on the pet box. (2 years ago...). Thinking on it I didn't want to play it at that time hoping for a (real) english patch. And now can't even launch it...

Yeah, I know. It's really hard to get Zwei running for some reason. Everybody seems to have the same problem. Damn you Falcom. Sorry, can't help you. The few times I got the game running was by pure luck. However, using the beta English patch seems to mess things up a bit. Try without it.
