at least on Win 8 pro x64. All you have to do is run in Japanese local and the game works great full screen. No more having to run it in a window.
I played it for a good 40 min and the only problem I've seen is that the font pitch is messed up for non Japanese characters, which there aren't many of. There may be some sort of windows 8 font setting that can be changed for it? The problem didn't exist in xp or 7.
Does anyone know if the game has native controller support?

Awesome! Great to hear that it works using Japanese local. It was always such a pain to get working in Windows 7. So the Japanese text for the most part contained in the text frame completely or does it run outside of it a bit? That's how it looked when running in Windows XP for me.
I believe that it does have controller support built into the game. It's been awhile since I last played it. It's a really fun game though if you decide to finish playing through it. There are tons of secrets to find in it an some great level design/puzzles and boss fights to be had, enough to rival some Zelda titles even.

All the text is nicely inside the text boxes. I've not seen any go outside yet. I've also fixed the font pitch so it displays all the characters correctly now. It's like it was trying to do some weird variable width thing. It was printing thin characters on top of the previous characters. So the word "RING" looked like "R NG" with the "R" looking slightly off.
I was under the impression it had controller support as well but I can't seem to figure it out. The game is fun though. My only complaint is the durability system. I hate that system in every game it's in.

The durability system is a bit much, but there are SO many weapon drops and as treasures in the game that you really don't need to hold back on using what you like. Just use light to medium strength weapons all the time for everything and save the rarer heavy damage weapons for bosses and you won't have any problems.
I was very conservative when I played and I found out that I didn't have to be. : )

Isn't this game legally free to download? I have Windows 8 and would love to try it. I think I remember getting it once from a link on Project EGG, but it wouldn't run correctly.

It's not free. Amusement center does have a free compile game, The Northern Quarters, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been Wander Wonder at some point. If you have a Project Egg Account which cost somewhere around 6 USD you can download any of the compile games on Amusement Center without additional charge.
Controllers do work. There is no option to turn them on they just work.

I believe EGG is where I got it before, and I also have an EGG account. Maybe it will work this time.

Wow! Thanks so much! It works great! If I had more time, I might get wrapped up in it right now, but I need to sleep now. Thanks again.

Could anybody here tell me how to get it to work in Windows 7? Changing system locale to Japanese gets it to stop crashing on new game, but it still froze at the chapter screen. Also, colors look like a photo negative. I had similar graphic issues with Dinosaur Resurrection, but dropping to desktop and back always fixed it. Wander Wonder crashes when I try to re-enter. Somebody mentioned playing in windowed mode, is that possible? How? I tried everything in compatibility mode and even the win7 fix tool that works with Ys Complete, but no such luck with WW. I really want to play this so it would be great if somebody could help.

You have to run it in a window on windows 7. You'll need dxwnd or d3dwindower with the right settings. SkyeWelse has a copy of the right version of dxwnd maybe he'll come link it. If not I will if I ever get to leave this family vacation, aka torture, and get back home.

I found a copy of d3dwindower, and it works like a charm. Rearranging my desktop and fiddling with the magnifier makes it look just like 4:3, so aside from wasting half a Saturday on it, I'm happy. It's a damn shame this game is so rare and unknown of, I'm honestly more excited about Wander Wonder and Esparks - Ijikuu kara no Raihousha than any new and upcoming PS3 games. Thanks for the help.

Your welcome. The game is pretty fun. I'm going to try to get it translated at some point. I've already found how to get at all the game text, just need to write a few programs to make it easy and find some one to translate it. Or wait another year or two and translate it myself. I was planning on doing most of that this summer but somehow this summer turned out to be very busy and now it's almost over.

Ah, this is a very worthy project Xalphenos! Glad to see you are interested in possibly working on a translation for this. I've always felt that this was a title that needed to be in English for sure. : )
Perhaps I can help with this, please let me know. Also, I have a collection of save (.dat) files from when I played through it last that can be used to jump around to different chapters of the game.

Can anybody tell me how to get through the holy tree? A birdman says I need a revival orb to make the grass grow, but I have no such item. I thought maybe the "straw millionaire" trading game would eventually get it, but after talking to everybody in the game again, nobody wants the compass. I really don't want to have to quit so close to the end after sinking dozens of hours into the game. I'd be happy for a japanese walkthrough, or anything. I found a guy in the desert who took the compass, but after a bunch more trading, a dog ran off with the bone without giving me anything in return, and I can't find it anywhere. I get the feeling all this trading is just to get a ticket to the pumpkin museum and won't affect the dungeon I'm stuck in. Please somebody help, because I'm getting really sick of this game.

Hi Belial,
I believe this is an area that I got stuck in too for awhile and if I remember I was also emailed by the member here, GS, that was also having the same problems. I played this so long ago that I honestly can't remember the solution, but I think that if you were ready (as in you are supposed to go the Holy Tree) at that point in the game, everything you needed was available to finish that tree dungeon. I can remember that there were some plants that needed water to grow, and one in particular that was mostly dead and needed a lot of water to revive it. I believe I made my way to the top floors (outside of the holy tree, looked like a treehouse area) and at the very top of that area that you can first access you restored the water reservoir and irrigation system that made the sprinklers work for the plants that needed water.
As for the question as to whether you needed some kind of item, I'm not sure, but I also believe that around this point in the game I had already finished most of that large 3 floor fortress that had East and West wings and I believe on some of the upper floors there was a switch across a pit that needed a specific item to shoot across and hit it. I believe I remember obtaining that item after journeying through the Lost Woods (Zelda tribute area) in the order of certain ghosts/spirits colors.
Blue Calls Green Green Calls Red Red Calls the Blue Blue heads towards the Entrance
Then I wrote something down, directions that might be either for this or for a different puzzle in the game… not sure. I'll just list my cryptic directions here in hopes that they will be of help. : )
Directions: Key: v = Down, ^ = Up, < = Left and > = Right
1. v ^ < v > Exit
2. ^ ^ < ^ v > Red
3. < v ^ < v ^ > Blue
Hope this helps!

I'm guessing "water orb/ball" means "sprinkler" then. Went back and ripped the text: 鳥人間「枯れた草には回復の玉を使うトリ そうすれば元気に育ってくれる it's pretty clear I need a 回復の玉, but I haven't the slightest clue where to find one. There are a few blue chests I wasn't able to access in some other dungeons, like in the mines, that seemed like they'd only be accessible if I could double jump or something, but so far the game's forced integral items upon me, not hidden them away in optional chests.
The maze and three towers were in chapter 2, I'm in chapter 3, after the church, and there's literally nowhere else on the world map to go to. Before entering, there was a cutscene with the high priest's messenger telling me to ask the bird people for help, so I know I'm in the right place. I just can't proceed.
There are three of those plants, the first one grows when you break the water pots on it, but the other two don't react at all, no matter what I do. There's a gap with a switch on the other side in the room above one of them, but the crossbow and bombs don't activate it. Is there some way to double jump I've somehow missed out on? It just doesn't make any sense that in order to advance I need to grow plants that I need to advance past before I can make grow. I've tried literally everything. It's ridiculous that I put over a month of my life into this game's convoluted puzzles for nothing. I could have beaten another game in the time I've been stuck on this problem alone.

I've seen that Niconico video before, kind of forgot about it though. I wonder how they recorded it? I got El-Do-ra-do from project egg. I haven't really played it but it worked fine on win 8. I think it also actually worked alright on win 7.
