Yop! 'Sup all.
This actually is something I have been wondering about roughly ever since YsC had been announced, but for some reason I never quite asked people about the following before...
To all those that played and understood the dialogue of Ys: Foliage Ocean in Celceta, and preferably also had already played at least 1 of the other 2 main versions of Ys IV (Mask of the Sun on the Super Famicom and The Dawn of Ys on the PC Engine), I have a question:
Did any of you feel that Karna's character or behavior got changed or "adapted" from the original Ys IVs compared to YsC? You can talk of anything of the game, spoilery or not (preferably properly marked as spoilers if so, though, since others might not want to read those), as long as it's relevant to answering this question.
I ask this, because I'm actually a HUGE Karna fan (like most Ys fans!), because she's frigging badass and STRONG. An actual woman warrior who might even be considered beautiful, but feels to be a lot more of a "warrior" than a "sexy woman", if you know what I mean. She's got a distinctive personality for a female character in the Ys series, where most (if not all) of the others feel like they ALSO serve the role of being eye-candy or provoking somehow, while Karna did not ever feel that way. (Except for the short MotS manga, but then again, everything worked differently in that. I mean, c'mon, even Bamy kisses Adol. xD) She was always a heroine, but never "romantic interest" material in ANY way.
Thing is, judging from in-game screenshots I googled, seeing Falcom's wallpapers, calendars, other advertising material etc., I was left with the impression that... well, they obviously DID "sexify" Karna, and I got no problem with that, really, as long as her disntinctive, REAL warrior-like character and emotionally strong character remained completely intact. But... I'm with the impression Falcom also did make her... hm... more comparable to what she was like in the manga of Mask of the Sun? Or at least adequated her into becoming more of a "romantic interest" material? I wonder if she even got those "flirty vibes"? Or maybe she was simply made into a more "teasingly warm" character? Or? Maybe I'm completely wrong and Falcom COMPLETELY kept her old character TOTALLY intact in all ways?
I'm under the impression they changed Karna into... Aisha? Another strong female heroine who... despite that, had a lot of "feminineness" all around her? Made her more "womanly" and a tad less of a warrior?
So... That's what my question is about: Are my impressions that they "changed Karna around" wrong or right? And regardlessly of the answer, how so?
The more of a Karna fan you are, the more I would like to hear your opinion and thoughts!
