The long-running series (Original - X - Zero) of the Mega Man Universe has finally come to a sad but spectacular end in this chapter. Anybody else beat it yet?

I just love the zero series, it gave me what X7 and X8 couldnt. Theres still a chance that it may not have ended... you know how they keep bringing zero back to life somehow (due to popular demand... ie- Mega Man X5 and what happened in X6) well, anyways, the whole issue of Zero 5 is up for debate... personally, i think its over, and its probably best they not milk it to death by some odd means. anyways, the next game from the same development team is Mega Man ZX for the DS, so im looking forward to that

IF (and I do mean IF) you don't want to be spoiled, avoid this post NOW!!!
Zero 4 takes up after Zero 3 (when Zero destroys his original body). Humans have fled Neo Arcadia with Dr. Weil's forces on their tail. Zero & Ceil happen to save the escapees they happened to run into and discover that they are fleeing to Area Zero, a site where the space colony Eurosia collided after being severely damaged during the Maverick Wars (MMX5 on PSX & PC). There, Zero manages to convince the humans that doing nothing about the situation (after they get discovered by Weil's forces) only makes them no better than the ones left in Neo Arcadia. Craft, a soldier of Weil, taking matters in his own hands, tries to destroy Area Zero, only to end up destroying Neo Arcadia (After the last of its residents evacuated). Zero makes it inside Ragnarok, the space station that Craft & Weil are controlling, and defeats Craft for his mistakes. He then finds out that Weil is still alive, half torn, with his human brain still intact. He finally destroys Weil's Core, which is powerful enough to destroy the raging station, but the explosion took Zero with it!
That, my friends, is the story, and the end of a spectacular series! There are rumors that Dr. Weil could actually the infamous Dr. Wily (remember him?) with his brain preserved and functional.
any other news on this theory will be helpful.
Edit: From what I know, Mega Man ZX is suppose to be another spinoff (Much like MM Legends and MM Battle Network).

Thanks for that, I have only played the first Zero game, and with my RPG stack I may never get to play the others. Big fan, just can't play all of them anymore. It wouldn't surprise me if Zero came back somehow. I remember at the end of X5 he got beat up pretty bad. I thought he was dead then when I first played it. Great writeup!

Still, no matter what ZX is, its by the same ppl that did the Zero series, so i know it'll be good quality (imo, even better than what the current X games development team ever does). i always forget their dev team's name.. intellisomthing-or-other and ZX isnt realy a spinoff, it takes place in the canon storyline of the series. click here and get up-to-date : megaman.retrofaction.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1139888375&archive=&start_from=&ucat=8&btw, legends also isnt realy a "spin off" either. it also takes place in the mega man universe timeline and is related to the other series in that sense (although it isnt as obviously shown in the games). Im not sure but i think legends takes place after ZX, and ZX takes place after Zero. But im sure Battle Network is considered a total spin off also, remember that at the end of Mega Man X, Zero was destroyed yet he was rebuilt in X2. in X5 (or X6?) he went into a 100 year slumber, yet due to popular demand he re-appeared in the next game. theres a translation of the entire story and timeline on the web somewhere.

Its highly unlikely that a Zero 5 will be made. I mean Copy X is cleaned out, Neo Arcadia is a crater, and Weil is no more.
But you may be right, ZX might take place after the Zero Series. As for Legends being the complete end, I seriously doubt that in every perspective way.
Edit: the people that did Zero is Intellicreate

i didnt know either, till i read the translations of the complete plotline of the mega man universe boards.ign.com/mega_man/b6002/109106001/p1/thats a rough overview of the whole things... from Mega Man to Mega Man Legends and how they connect. I wouldnt call Legends "the end" but more like the last chapter in the timeline thus far. Yeah, i also doubt that theres gonna be a Zero 5... but like i said, maybe that for the better. Itd be cool to see remakes of the zero series though, in the distant future, along with music rivaling/better than the remastered soundtracks. and they better not do it like IHX, i want to see real enhancements and high quality 2D art.

WOW!!!!! NOW the Legends series is definitely here to stay!!! However, is Battle Network just a spinoff or is it actually part of the series (dumb question, but hey, you know...) ?

like i said before, i think battle network is a total spinoff game... curently there is no indication that battle network connects to the other games, but maybe there can be a way thought up to connect it to the rest logically... i wouldnt know cuz ive only played the first battle network, and that was a rental.

um...zero 5 was announced....check the message boards, capcoms copyright list, and fan sites..there is also quotes from the megaman creator saying that he is working on it.
Plus how many times has the guy died...seriously.....its not over.
also the battle network series has no connection to the others..just like the legend series. The only ones with direct connection in timeline is megaman, x, and zero.

Im sure the legends series is connected. According to the Rockman Perfect Memories Source Book (which i linked you guys a translation to), it is. Its only slightly connected, i guess, but it is in the timeline.
Also, the Mega Man fanbase seems to be full of a lot of confusion. A lot of people give info as fact that is realy just their own hope or speculation, and they dont have anything to back them up (such as a link). The Zero series seems to be over, although yes, I wouldnt be surprised if there is a Zero 5... although I hope it doesnt. People like to think that just simply because he's "Zero" its ok for him to repeatedly come back to life. Personally, i cant think of a way for him to return without it looking dumb, so hopefully capcom doesnt need the cash that badly (or the fanbase isnt actualy that sad about it) that they need to force the series into a 5th installment (things like that have happened before with Mega Man). And yes, i have found something in the Rockman Perfect Memories message board that could indicate that Zero 5 will be made, but it also says that Legends 3 and Mega Man 9 will NEVER be made... as of now, im gonna say that nothing is set in stone. So, Zero 5 was never actually "announced". Unless you have a good link to prove otherwise.
A lot of fans also like to think that X6, X7, and X8 arent canon... just cuz they dont want them to be canon. But seriously, the entire zero series wouldnt make sense unless the X series continued on after X5. You just have to consider that certain controversial Zero ending to be "a glimps into the future". But the truth is, unless there is hard evidence to clear up the plot holes, we can only get as logical as possible in speculating. Its all about what makes the most sense.
Also, someone asked wither or not wiel is wily. I could link you to a lengthy discussion, but ill just say that the general opinion is that they are not the same. It wouldnt make sense. I could say that in order for him to be wily, he'd be a human over 200 years old or something, but many say it's just his brain is wily's, preserved for all these years. Personaly, i dont think he's wily mostly because of how he reacts to and talks with Zero... he was created by wily and if wiel is wily, it wouldnt make any sense if wiel wouldnt ATLEAST say something regarding that.

The reason its not canon to me is because Kenji Inafune had nothing to do with the x series after X5. Its like George Lucas not making a Star Wars film...and for that Mega Man Zero 5 announcement you will have to sift through his (Kenji Inafune) interviews. The guy has been busy as of late but its not too hard to come by.

Was sorta hoping X would return to join forces with Zero again.
Oh well, guess he really was worn out to not come back.

Sounds like everyone is saying that X6-8 isn't official. But to keep the peace, If you guys play through X6 or X7 using Zero, you'll see just how the X series connects with the Zero series.(Note: Spoiler!!!)
