So I picked up a copy of Brandish Dark Revenant and I admit, I love it to pieces. I do have an issue though, and that is the language barrier is a tad bit difficult for me to crack. I don't mind getting a feel for the game by trial and error, but I'd love it if people would be interested to help me design a guide for this game that covers a number of aspects, including the HUD, Menus, Script, Item Descriptions, Enemy Names, Databases and more. With the addition of Dela's story and game play I think it would be a great help and a wonderful learning experience! So, that said... can anyone help me translate the Start Menu? I can post a few solid screen shots if need be. Any additional guides and translations (even in just text form) would be greatly appreciated!

This thread. It's a fishing rod to catch a very special species, called... "the Matron" Yeah, I'm kind of hyped up too for Brandish. And its text-lightness makes it one of the easiest Falcom games to localize in the US to date. I wouldn't be very surprised if Xseed is currently working on it (as they have a new game announcement to do until the end of the year I think)... it's the more likely at least.

I would buy several copies of this title if they did (two for myself, and several for a few friends). I remember playing it back on the Super Nintendo. I got stuck for about 14 years on that game since the day it came out. (That tower floor puzzle really got to me) In the meantime though, I'd love to try and get a temporary fix in place. I just don't know if folks here would be alright with me doing so, and posting images from in game as translation aids.

Users have posted up pics for translation help before and no one had a problem with it. Alright then, Xalphenos. I'll post them for now. If any mods or admin request they be removed, I'll do just that. There's not much, but I'll add them as I go. I'm still playing through the game, so it's an ongoing process, but here's what I have so far:

I dont see anything 0_0.. other then the stats on the first pic. But is xSeed serious about bringing this over? Its been a good 4 years since they released this. Still, Brandish was the reason I got introduced to Falcom and its greatness, so more Brandish is always welcome.. I just hope they bring number 2,3 and 4 over.. and hopefullly, evnetually... bring Ares and Dela back for more adventures and fun.
Side note.. wouldnt an Ares and Dela (Zwei style) Brandish be super awesome =D

This thread. It's a fishing rod to catch a very special species, called... "the Matron" Heh I recommend you to bookmark this guide. It will prove useful on your adventure. Regarding to the text in your screenshots... - LEVEL (duh) - HP (Heal Points) - MP (Magic Points) - STR (Strength) - INT (Intelligence) - MGR (Magic Resistance) - Luck - Physical Attack Power (your "arm"'s strength + your Weapon's strength) - Physical Defense Power (Armor + Shield Defense Power) O = Marks your map with the color you selected [ ] = Hold [ ] and move your Analog stick to select a color /\ = To delete any color of the map Not sure about this. I've never touched this, so you should be okay by not doing so. The BGM thing is to select the original PC-98 soundtrack or the arranged soundtrack for the remake, like what you can do in Ys I & II Chronicles. - Save - Load - Erase I think It asks you if you want to return to Title Screen. Yes or no. - Status Select that and it will ask you if you want to return to Title Screen. First Screen: Not sure what you want to know here. The coin thing is how much it costs your sword, and the number below is it's strength power. The number alongside with the weapong picture indicates how many times you can use it before it brokes. L = Drop, R = Select (you can "fuse" items so they so they take less space) and O = Select/Action button. Second Screen: There's nothing in front of you, so nothing's happened since there's nothing to check in there. Enjoy this amazing game and great introduction to Falcom's dark stuff

Okay, so my image editing skills are garbage, so I'm just going to give a straight text translation here. Side menu: Status, Map, Options, Record, Quit Center box: Level, Vitality (or Health), Willpower, Strength, Intelligence, Magic Resistance, Luck, Attack, Defense Help box: Display current status. Right box: Paint, Dropper, Erase, Map Traversal Percentage Help box: Edit the map. Center box, 1st row: Status, Active display 2nd row: Camera rotation, Standard (as opposed to inverted) 3rd row: Control display, Display 4th row: Rotate 5th row: Strafe 6th row: BGM Type, Arrangement 7th row: BGM Volume 8th row: SFX Volume Help box: Choose a status display method. Right column: Save, Load, Erase Help box: Save current play state. Center: Return to title?, Yes, No Help box: Quit game and return to title screen. Top bar: Equip, Discard, Replace Info box: Short Sword Item description: A smallish sword. Although not very deadly, it is light and easy to handle. Bottom box: There's nothing particularly remarkable there. (This is what pops up when you try to interact with a space that doesn't have anything you can interact with in it.) I hope this helps you out. Let me know if you have any questions about these translations.

Wow, that's a lot of cool replies! Thanks so much for the help and support, guys! I'd be way more than okay with the idea of people working together on a fan translation in text format. I know a bit of Japanese, but... I'm still a novice, and coding is not a strong point of mine, at least not yet (working on that starting December, though). I do however, remember this game very clearly; and would love to design such a project. Aside from that, I really just want to be able to provide a translation for others to enjoy this game, either in the form of a patch or text based guide/script hybrid. Since I can't do coding and i won't reverse engineer or risk violating that sort of law, I'll probably just stick to screenshots of things as they are in game and as I come across them. I do wonder though what the new changes are... (and my primary focus here is the casino script, new cutscenes, any new item descriptions or shop keeper texts, and Dela Delon mode. The rest can more or less be gleaned from previously translated text (with the exception of Ares being changed to Varik and Dela Delon being changed to Alexis). Though if people want me to, I'll screenshot every last bit of text in game I can find. Naturally, this sort of project is all new to me. It's fresh and it's one I'd rather have be community based. That's the love of a game series, one where we all can talk about it as we go, offering help to one another when it's needed, and where it's needed. I'll try to keep links to each part of the script or text organized best I can and in the initial post as it goes along.

They were so sexy hat they were called back to the heavens and have vanished without a trace, leaving only legends and myths of their heroic deeds behind!" -Thomas

If anyone has the hacking skill necessary to extract the text and then reinsert it, I'd be up for doing the translation work on it. There's honestly not that much text in the game, so I could probably grind out the menu text really quickly for people who just want that, and then work on items and story text. I've tried to do it myself, but no luck. I tried just plugging away at some of the items with a hex editor, but for some reason, it seems like while there's files with the item names and descriptions unencrypted that I can edit fine, those files aren't actually what the game draws that text from, because changing it does absolutely nothing. Kind of weird, and very, very annoying. And sadly, that's about the limit of my hacking skill in this area.
So yeah, if anyone can figure out how to actually get the text out and then insert it after it's translated, I'd be very eager to work on it. I just don't really have the motivation to do it without that, unfortunately. I like to know that I'm going to have a finished product when I translate something; translation guides on the side just don't have any appeal for me at all.

A translation project for Brandish: The Dark Revenant? Count with this fellow wanderer and his sword! What I have to do? I'm currently playing Dark Revenant and I'm in Tower F9. I can screen-shot every piece of dialog that I found if that helps, or even help for an Spanish translation! Hey aren't you the sexy beast that helped bring Brandish 2 - The Universe Blaster to the English speaking world with that beautiful translation from that site that no longer works for the SNES =D I would feel honored if I was that man

naachan all the falcom psp games I've seen do that. Going back to the gagharve psp versions and including ys7 and nayuta. Falcom leaves pre compiled/compressed files on the disc that the game never touches. It is quite puzzling.

But if there is someone to guide us then I can easily help any way possible. Im fairly competent with PCs and whatnot, so long as I have some good instructions =D... I really want to see this get a good translation.

jdkluv, I've seen that as well. However given the date of that post, it seems highly unlikely that translation is still going. Taking screenshots helps a lot actually and that's what I've been doing so far. I am already in the caverns (I think I'm on the 4th floor) and I'm saving on the start of each area so I can screenshot where there's the most changes.
If you want to leap in(Any of you for that matter) please do feel free to help me out. I'd love to see this evolve into a patch if possible, or at the very least a text translation.
I don't mind assigning tasks to people once I know who can do what and who's on board for the long haul. I also certainly don't mind working on this project with anyone.
The biggest issue is that the files are all encrypted (and nicely so at that), so extracting them requires a way to decyrpt them.
Sadly, I am unable to do that myself... hence my search for people who are willing to work on this just for the sake of having it in English (for the people here in the west who actually want to import the game to support Falcom).

Lindaluv, we're looking for some individual('s) who can decode and decrypt the text files stored on the game itself (or willing to write down the entire thing by hand/provide images of all in game text).
We are also looking for people who can fluently translate the text that will be contained in these images into English.
Additionally, if this was to somehow become a fan translation patch, we would need someone capable of coding the translated text back into the game properly.
I can offer some help regarding basic translation (but I am very untrained when it comes to many terms), so that's a major barrier for me, and I am still young in my coding training but I'll do what I can.
If you think you can fit any of these tasks, I'd love to have you working with us.
