Well, figured I'd start a thread. The latest news, is supposedly, it will be a sequal to Circle of the Moon That's just wierd, & kind of stinks for me. COTM was my absolutly least favorite of the Castleroid games. For me, it just got really annoying at parts, whereas, I blew thru HOD, AOS, & DOS because they were so fun(haven't played all the way thru SOTN yet). But, another question comes up, will this really be a true "sequal" to COTM? Because that game as most of us know, is one of the Iga un-approved, in that it isn't part of continuity along with several other CV games. So, maybe it's a sequal, only in play mechanics is my quess. But that also means, the little touch's of humor, present in the other games, probably won't be there. COTM seemed to be the most serious, which is fine, but, I did like the little bit of humor, like in DOS, where you get a skull vaccum, that eventually upgrades to a full on maid with a vaccum, I LOVE that kind of stuff! Anyways, those are my current thought, discuss amongst yourselves. Oh, & the news came for magicbox.

A sequel to Circle of the Moon? Sweet! That's the best one in the series since Symphony of the Night.
However ...
I REALLY hope this won't be a "Metroid-ish" Castlevania, because that has gotten REALLY OLD!

This is cool news, nice to see they are regularly working continuing the series. It's kind of like Mega Man, where there's always a new one around the corner. Let's just hope if that rumored Castlevania movie ever happens, they don't make a game based on it. castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/new.html

Oh my god... if i ever catch the guy who tried to "decipher" what was said in nintendo power, ill strangle him. lemme clear a few things up for you guys... 1. Alucard wont deffiantely be in it. 2. Its not a sequal to Cirlce of the Moon. That game is no longer canon acording to Igarashi-san 3. NO ONE other than the creators knows right now what the game will be about. the casltevania dungeon hasnt reported on it yet, but the classic gaming forums for castlevania explains all this. someone thought they found hiddgen meanings in a single scentence the Nintendo Power magazine had written about. They mention a "full moon", but that doesnt mean it'll be about CotM!! Name me a castlevania that doesnt have anything to do with moons... theres always a full moon/eclipse somewhere in the game. also, they said that there'd be whipping action. this can just be a general statement about castlevania... it certainly doesnt mean alucard will be in it, i mean he cant even wield a whip! he uses swords! its amazing how far this guy's speculating went so far... well, just check out thisthe magicbox only posted the news today, and they didnt give the full story. the first link in that thread should explain... ok, here, ill link to that too: thats probably from what all the silliness started from. I wish people wouldnt try to act so smart, I wish they'd make 100% sure that they wouldnt fall flat on their face. This guys making Nintendo Power look bad too, because now people might think that NP themselves ment to say that stuff... all they were doing was telling people that the will be a new castlevania game revealed next month in their next issue, period. They just wanted to say it without revealing the name, u know... being creative. whips and moons are part of the series, not particular to only CotM.

Seldane: Metroid-style Castlevania games getting old? BLASPHEMY!! 2D Metroids and "Castleroids" (I like that term, ParanoiaDragon!) can keep getting pumped out until the end of time, and I'll be perfectly content. I absolutely love that style of gameplay. I just hope there's another 2D Metroid in our future... I really don't like the 3D Metroids, but I *adore* the 2D ones!! -Tom Ripped the words right out of my mought! I can thrive on Castleroids & Metrovania's for the rest of my life! As for the coining of the term Castleroid, I thought that was a farely common term? Pretty sure I got it over at Gamefaqs, so, I won't take credit for it. Yeah, I pray that Metroid Dread(?) will be revealed someday, along with a complete overhaul of Metroid 2, in the style of Super Metroid ofcoarse! Man, I hope all the 2D Metroids continue in the Metroid fashion forever, sorry Sel, I just love that style. There's not enough of it in my opinion, which is why I "was" hoping that Mega Man ZX was going to be that way as well, cuz, I mean, hey, it's a Mega Man game, you get new abilities, why not make it like Metroid? Oh well.

Yeah it is a lot of fun, but I'm starting to get tired of it. I want to see another "classic" Castlevania. Ooh why can't they make another one?

Im kinda in between. as much as i love "castleroids" and metroid, it has been done a lot (although yeah, I wouldnt mind another one... but I dont want this series to go the direction that Mega Man X went). I mean, the old style before SotN was fun too. Dracula X was probably the perfection of that style. I have to admit some of the new castlevania seem to be taking out some great things from the old style. Personaly, instead of choosing just one style or doing something completely new, I want to see a mix of Rondo of Blood and SotN (with some new gameplay elements too). Those two were the best of their kinds and a lot of elements from them have been lost in the series.
Konami has seemed to nearly perfected the traditional "Castleroid" style... they need to look at the classics and take the best from those too. I'd love for more RPG-elements to be put into them as well... like in Castlevania II, which actually had towns and people and stuff. I also loved how some castlevanias started off in burning villages and stuff, it just gives a feel that the world isnt completely restrained to one castle.
and again, bring back familliars and transformations! they just open up so many more possibilities, they can easily be made much better. lol... a lot of what I want to say has already been said by me in the old "Castlevania dream" thread...
like most other fans are, im hoping the new game is about the Julius Belmont '99 story (prequel to AoS). But instead of always restricting the whip and sword to seperate characters, why not have one that can equip both?
and since its on DS, i hope they can think of some better ways to use the DS functions. They've had experiance with DoS, so im sure they can make it even better this time around. Konami puts quality teams and effort behind castlevanias... unlike certain other publishers (im not gonna cough about it: im refering to capcom).

Actually, I forgot about the 99' battle, & that would be cool if they did indeed do that, plus, making another game, closely related to the Sorrow games would be cool. As for the DS thing, I actually don't care about the whole touch screen stuff at all, for any game. Actually, I get a little annoyed when I "have" to use the touch screen, like for some things in Super Princess Peach for example, or, better yet, DOS. I hated having to sit there & get a magic seal right. The touch screen is interesting, & I suppose it can have it's place, but, just for me, it's something I couldn't care less about. That fact that the DS has 2 screens, is more interesting to me, especially for games like CV, where the map is at the top, with the game at the bottom. I'm sure most people might think of that, as just a waste, but, it's a convenience for me, & I enjoy it in all my DS games. I'm not trying to bash the touch stuff, it's just personally something that doesn't float my boat at all, & actually like I said, at times, gets on my nerves. Maybe it's cuz I'm old school, or, maybe it's cuz I'm lazy, I'm not sure

It would be awesome to see a new Castlevania in the same style as Simon's Quest. That was a truly unique game. I really loved it (always been my favorite NES game). Whatever they do -- I sure hope they stay far, FAR away from the "Sorrow" story. I hate it.

Hmm, making it like Simon's Quest would actually be pretty cool!

Yes! I am not alone in my believe that we need a new Simon's Quest!
Dawn of Sorrow made me think we'd have a new Simon's Quest, and it was a dirty trick. But, I was pleased with it nonetheless. I like Castleroids myself, but I wouldn't mind a good ole ten stages of hell style Castlevania. But, I suppose I'm easy to please. I'm one of the few who enjoyed CV 64.

NEWS FLASH! The next DS Castlevania has been officialy dubbed "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin"! Nintendo Power should have more on it in their next issue which releases by the end of april (around the 20th, if im not mistakened). Then there's E3 which is around a month away! the game is slated for a mid November release (not sure if that a Japanese or American date). Also, if anyone saw that Game Pro magazine cover that called the next Castlevania "Dual Moons", then forget you saw it cuz it was proven to be a well done photoshopped april fools joke. Theres also a slight rumor that Konami might be trying out a Castlevania for the revolution. Im not holding any breath for the news being true, but imagine the gameplay! Whipping things with the revolution controller would be amazing! and dont worry, it'd work without it being in First Person... it could easily be 3rd person like the PS2 Castlevanias and still work well with the new controller. personally, i think they should give castlevania a bit of a rest after Portrait of Ruin. They should wait maybe 1/2 a year into the new generation before they start a new one... and realy put some time into it's development. When PoR comes out it will have only been a bit over a year since DoS and CoD came out in 2005. Its been like that this whole gen.... this generation realy saw quite a lot of castlevania. But even still, i know how much effort and love IGA (one of my most favorite directors) puts into his work so he probably knows what he's doing.

Portrait of Ruin? I guess they ran out of musical terminology. I'm looking forward to a possible Still-Life of Pain sometime in the future.

woah, i totaly forgot about that game I remember reading some import articles on it and realy wanting to play it. The screenshots of Simon and Master Higgens on the same screen and fighting realy set me off... but I knew I couldnt play it seeing as it were an import. It was for the PS2 and GC, right?

Has anyone any screenshots of this pseudo-Smash Brothers amusingness?
