Of course the PS1/PS2 games are locked out - they couldn't do it otherwise because that would cause Sony a LOT of trouble. Licensing issues, you know.
Edit: And yeah, a modchip will be out in at least six months after the release, I assure you.

Licensing issues? Not sure what you mean. As for a mod chip, I hope it's something real simple. When the day comes, that I will buy a PS3, I don't wanna open that thing up So, maybe some USB device or something

wait... so ps3... you can't play ps2 and ps1 discs??!?!?! Yes you can, but only games of the same region as your machine. A USB-based exploit? Sorry, but that is impossible. You can't access/bypass the BIOS through USB by any means. Will never happen. The PS3 modchips WILL require lots of soldering.

Keep in mind that all PS3 games will be put onto Blu Ray discs and will be over 20 GIGs in size. This will crack piracy down ALOT. Something that Micrososf should of done with 360 instead of making there games on DVD9. Yes a modchip will come about eventually but it might take a year or two. I too want to play import games and is a reason why I got a modchip for my PS2.

Ah... that's what I thought... but there will be no doubt some modchip to make it region free anyway. Lots of soldering, eh? I will wait... lol My ps2 is not moded... oh well

My ps2 is not moded... oh well I installed a modchip in my second PS2 just two minutes ago. Taking a well-deserved break right now.

Swap magic is not worth it. Very useless. If you want to play imports or whatever on your PS2 without modification, I recommend the independence exploit. Note that this only works on the older, larger PS2 models.

However, I was looking at the swap disk options, slide cards, or anything else solderless, but I don't really know what would be good. Swap magic is not worth it. Very useless. If you want to play imports or whatever on your PS2 without modification, I recommend the independence exploit. Note that this only works on the older, larger PS2 models. I looked up this exploit, and apparently I would need a way to send files to my memory card. Do you know how I might do that? The Independence thing looks a little tricky. This ( www.modchip.com/ps2/dms4eziorder.php) Lite edition looks nice, but expensive. Can I do better?

Sending files to your MC can be a bit tricky. It WILL require you to buy addidional software. Swap Magic will let you do it, HD Advance will let you do it, Code Breaker (Action Replay) will let you do it. If you know somebody with a modded PS2 or who has either of the aforementioned software, borrow their stuff. Or let them put the files on your MC, and then return it to you. DMS 4 EZI is not a good solution. It is very risky and not worth your trouble. Of course, HD Advance in itself (no need for the exploit) is a good solution. A bit expensive, but it works well. Note that HD Advance is the exact same thing as HD Loader, but is retail (works on unmodded systems) and with a different name/skin. However, an exploited PS2 can do pretty much anything, run homebrew, play games via HD Loader, etc etc. The only feature it lacks is the possibility to run non-original discs, no matter what's on them (be it games or otherwise). This means you can't burn some JPEGs to a CD-ROM and then view them from there. You can, however, access files from USB media without any problems. Oh, and if you're interested in performing the exploit, I recommend Exploit Station - here you can find tutorials on how to do it with various software like HD Loader, Swap Magic and Code Breaker, etc.
