I'm trying to compile a list of good RPGs for the different consoles throughout the years that I'd like to play. They can be any kind of RPG, Action/Strat/Turn-based, you name it for any system. Heck, even if its just a great game lemme know.
My new old systems are arriving. So I need advice:
I now re-own: An 8-bit Nintendo A Sega Genesis A Playstation In addtion to the: Playstation Playstation 2 and Xbox that I already have.
I'm working on getting a Turbo Duo and Neo Geo. I may have a SNES sooner than I expected. So I wanna know - what are some good RPG's for those systems. I know about a few like Chronotrigger and Lunar Silver Story Complete. But what are some real gems out there I should get? I'd like to get FF7 but OMG I'm not sure I'm gonna pay $80 for it on eBay o.O I don't want to play it THAT bad. Ideas?
Off the top of my head, I know of (and I may not have the systems right so bear with me)
Shining in the Darkness - Genesis Shining Force I & II - Genesis Zelda - NES Zelda Macaranea of Time (I know) - SNES? Wild Arms - PS FF7 - PS Chronotrigger - SNES Lunar SSC - PS Lunar 2 - PS Final Fantasy Tactics - PS (not really RPG, but I like this style game) Sayuki Journey West - PS Ys I & II - Duo Legend of Heroes - Dragon Slayer - Duo Disgaea I & II - PS2 DQ8 - PS2

For the Turbo, get Ys 1 & 2, Ys 3, Ys 4, Legend of Xanadu, Legend of Xanadu 2, Brandish, Popful Mail(based more on the PC version, so the graphics are smaller, but still fun), Neutopia, Neutopia 2, Fray CD Xak Gaiden, Cosmic Fantasy 2, Xak 1 & 2, Xak 3, Dragon's Curse, Dynastic Hero, Gotzendiener, Magicoal, Beyond Shadowgate, Shapeshifter, Dungeon Explorer, Dungeon Explorer 2, Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes, Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes 2(pretty playable even though it's in japanese), Exile, Exile Wicked Phenomenom, Might and Magic 3, Cadash, Loom, Lords of the Rising Sun(pure strategy), I think there's more, I might add some later. For games that are in japanese, & might be difficult to play thru, but are excellent get Startling Odyssey, Startling Odyssey 2, Star Breaker, Sorcerian, Anearth Fantasy Stories, Neo Metal Fantasy, Kisou Louga, Kisou Louga 2, Record of Lodoss War, Record of Lodoss War 2, Far East of Eden Ziria, Far Eeast of Eden Manji Maru, Far East of Eden Kabukiden, Blood Gear, Ruin, Aurora Quest, Burai, Burai 2, Cosmic Fantasy 1, Cosmic Fantasy 3, Cosmic Fantasy 4 Chpter 1, Cosmic Fantasy 4 Chapter 2, Efera & Jiliora, Emeral Dragon, Might & Magic, Monster Maker, Princess Minerva, Sol Bianca, Sol Moonarge, Sword Master, Tenshi No Uta(Poem of Angel), Tenshi No Uta 2(Poem of Angel 2 ), Basted, Dragon Knight & Graphiti, Dragon Knight 2, Dragon Knight 3, Fang of Arnam, Gulliver Boy, Megami Paradise, La Valeur, Moonlight Lady, River Fishing King, Nekketsu Baseball And there's more RPG's, but I can't speak for all of them because I haven't gotten very far in them. As for the PS1 get Alundra, Alundra 2(though a bit different from the first game), Arc the Lad Collection, Beyond the Beyond(kinda crappy for being a PS1 game, but I still enjoyed it), Brave Fencer Musashi, Breath of Fire 3, Breath of Fire 4, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Anthology, Final Fantasy Chronicles(with Chrono Trigger), Final Fantasy Origins, Final Fantasy 7-9, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Warrior 7, Granstream Saga(ripped on quite a bit, but, I had alot of fun with it), Monkey Hero(ditto), Guardian's Crusade, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Mana, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2, SaGa Frontier, SaGa Frontier 2(neither of them are incredible, but they're still cool), Star Ocean 2, Suikoden 1, Suikoden 2(both are 2 of the best RPG's on the PS1, most people consider the 2nd one the best), Tales of Destiny, Tales of Destiny 2, Thousand Arms, Threads of Fate, Vandal Hearts, Vandal Hearts 2, Wild Arms, Wild Arms 2. Zelda Macaranea of Time (I know) - SNES? That doesn't exist. There is a game for N64 called Ocarina of Time(spelling?). For Gensis get Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy, Phantasy Star 2, Phantasy Star 3, Phantasy Star 4, Wonderboy 5, I'll have to get back to you on more games. I don't have time right now.

Hey! You just listed every RPG on the PC Engine! Most of those are horrible! Beware of Burai--it IS the worst RPG in existance! It looks, feels and plays like a super amateurish homebrew RPG. Ridiculous! Also, beware of Alundra 2. Everybody hates it. You will too. Same goes for Granstream Saga. Ask MP38. Oh, and keep away from the terrible Lunar games on the PS1. The Mega-CD games are so much better. They cut off a lot (A LOT) of good stuff in the PS1 versions. I'd like to blame whatever they're called (fortunately no more), but they didn't develop those games.

I enjoyed the heck out of Working Design's translation. Were the jokes perhaps inappopriate given the surrounding? Eh, maybe. I still thought they gave the game charm and I laughed at a couple.

I didn't name every RPG for the PC Engine, nor did I even list every RPG I OWN for the PC Engine, I just listed the ones that I think are excellent down to decent. I like Burai, it's not as good as Burai 2 though, not by a longshot. There''s probably around 20-30 RPG's I didn't even list, because they are either horrible or I haven't had a chance to really check them out. Lunar 1 & 2 on the PS are the best, I love them miles upon miles beyond the Sega CD versions! WD IS MISSED! Granstream Saga is one of those games, that people rag on, & I have yet to figure out why. Sure, the main character doesn't have a face(except for in the cinemas) but I had a hell of alot of fun with that game. It did not bore me, like some games can. Even Suikoden 5 bores me at times, though it's a great game. Whereas, Suikoden 4, the most ragged on, didn't bore me at all. Go figure Alundra 2, I can't speak on, since I really haven't played much of it at all, but, I know it's not like the first game But some people out there love it, so, it must be decent at the least.

That's good news! Super NES: Lagoon If you haven't played it, it's wonderful! GBA: Golden Sun is really cool, and has some nice puzzles, with music by the man, Motoi Sakuraba. Everyone else already recommended what I would have.

Lagoon is a bad game. Period. I still love it though (but I think Gamemusicfreak and I are the only ones in the world to do that).

I liked Lagoon =(
Also, Paranoia's list needs formatting to make it readable.
And Wyrdwad is a man of taste. Be more like him.

GBA: Golden Sun is really cool, and has some nice puzzles, with music by the man, Motoi Sakuraba. Everyone else already recommended what I would have. I am not really into the strategy-RPG (my dubbed button smashing rpg) but Golden Sun was quite good. And the Golden Sun: The Lost Age, that was interesting storyline. I enjoy both and yes, the music in the game was quite good too. Dragon Warrior I, II and III on GBA Haha, you can't go wrong with Ys 1 & 2 on ANY platform. Kingdom Hearts on PS2 is good, music is... slightly on the repetitive end but it's still enjoyable with the Disney Characters... I have not tried KH2 yet... That's all I can think of...

For SNES you've forgotten the great Zelda: A Link to the Past. For the Genesis a great ARPG is Landstalker.

I remember that too. They day that game gets released will be the day I get a PSP. And if it doesn't get released ... well, I'll get a PSP when YsF gets released in English, and if that doesn't happen... well then I won't get a PSP, no matter what happens. Or maybe I will. Anyway--I recommend Landstalker too. Best action adventure game on the Mega Drive!
