Does anybody think this is a possibility? Personally, I hope so, because now my system won't play FFIX properly, after trying it on a friend's PS2.

I don't think so. The PS2 is already super cheap, and they had a price drop recently. Besides, there's a new model coming out for x-mas.
Is FFXI even playable on the new PS2 models? I thought it required a hard drive.

I think Sony already said they will not drop the price. On the other hand, many people will probably be selling their PS2s, so you could probably find a good price on a used one.

I "might" sell mine (slim PS2 which is less than a year old) soon because I am planning to buy a Wii before the end of the year AND a PS3 when one of the games I want (Virtua Fighter 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII) comes out.
And I still got my Japanese PS2 to play my Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 with ^^
I can't promises it will be THAT soon but my slim PS2 will be listed on eBay in the near future.

PS3 isn't worth it. And MGS4? A joke game. Hate it already. Sad but true, the game will be crap - Yet fun to play most likely. But crap.

I agree that PS3 isnt worth it now but just give the system a few years and you will drool for one.
No console is worth it at launch. None I say. Its just to get the suckers to buy the newest thing on the market.

All I'm saying is: Dawn of Mana! PS2 is still and will remain #1 for a long time.

All I'm saying is: Dawn of Mana! PS2 is still and will remain #1 for a long time. I was looking at pics of that the other day, and now I can't wait for it. I will wait a long time before buying a PS3. I'm really curious to see what Falcom does once all the next gen consoles are out and firmly established.

I don't think they will do anything. They (pretty much) never have, and they probably never will.

One of the best things about Falcom is that they have their own little corner of the gaming world that no one can touch. I see nothing wrong with where they are now. Falcom could stay like it is now and they would still rule. I was thinking they might do some kind of graphics or engine upgrade after the new consoles hit, though I don't know what that would be.

Well, considering they've always been behind (a lot) when it comes to graphics, I doubt they'd even be able to make a game pretty enough for Sony/Microsoft to license. I mean, Sony didn't release Ys1-2 Complete (outside of Japan) because it was an "ugly" 2D game (among other reasons, I'm sure).
Falcom's games are too primitive (graphically AND gameplay-wise) for the general public, and I doubt they'll ever get out of the PC market (after all, Falcom is a very small company).

Sony seem to be that superficial, though. Whether by chance or by design, the PSX was lame at 2D graphics (well, at least compared to the Saturn), and that as well as this kind of policy makes me feel as though they're pushing for games that look/sound as good as possible.
As for Playstations... I've heard many stories that their consoles (much like a lot of their other hardware, actually 8/) have a short lifespan. This is particularly true of the PS2, apparently... So I certainly won't buy one 2nd hand.
Then again, I am a bit of a cheap-skate >_>

I agree that PS3 isnt worth it now but just give the system a few years and you will drool for one. No console is worth it at launch. None I say. Its just to get the suckers to buy the newest thing on the market. Nintendo's console are true to deliver. They are worth every penny. The only thing I drool about after on PS3 is the Gundam Game - which I also have reasons to believe will be crap. And I don't really need to buy a PS3, I just wait for those emulator creators to create a functioning emulator for it then I'll play it on computer - Luckly cannot be done with Wii PS3 isn't worth it. And MGS4? A joke game. Hate it already. Sad but true, the game will be crap - Yet fun to play most likely. But crap. I'll assume you hate Snatcher I have no idea what it is but I shall hate it from now on! EDIT[/u]: Changed my oppinion after MP83 showed me some screenshots, It's cyberpunk, and I am a CP Fan eg. Shadowrun, Johnny Mnemonic, Neuromancer <3 ( No, not the sickness...) Sony seem to be that superficial, though. Luckly, never had a problem with my PS, but two of my friends PS1 have both suffered from dead lens. One of said friends later bought a PS2 and even that lens died. Now, to end my comment and WTFPWN[/b] everyone of you into buying Wii instead: video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3032112009016435066Nintendo Wii queue vs Playstation 3 Queue video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9056068192424546470Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii.. My PS2 has been abused by me for 4 1/2 years, got it right after I got married, along with my Game Cube. And I've also been using the Magic Swap on it. However, I do always say, Nintendo seems to be the ones that always make systems that last! But yeah, Dawn of Mana, can't wait

I have also had to replace my PS2's laser once but it was easy to order and easy to install. I've had my PS2 since 2001 so it has gone through a lot of gaming time. The best route to go through nowadays with CD/DVD based games is to mod your system, put in a 200GIG harddrive and install games to your harddrive. Load times are reduced significantly. But back on the topic, I highly doubt PS2's price will go down. Thers no need to reduce it. Microsoft would be smart to reduce the 360's price with the Wii and PS3 coming out.

You think the PS2 to GC controller adapter will work on the Wii?
And who wants a Virtual Console controller to PC adapter?
.... LOL
I mean, when I decide to sell my Ps2(s), I'll probably keep the controllers ^_^
