I have an opportunity to buy a Neo Geo CD system with three games. One is Metal Slug, the other two I couldn't see very well but were Japanese. The price is 175 dollars. I have it held for me until the 23rd. Seens kinda steep, but I have a useless Atari Jaguar system that I could use as trade in fodder. So, should I go for it, or blow it off?

I think it sounds kinda expensive for an system that didn't really get much attention, but I could be wrong. Stick with the Atari Jaguar is what I say.

Do you have a picture of the auction? Perhaps we could identify the games for you. It'd be kinda like a fun challenge. : )
Neo Geos have been expensive little systems through and through, but even so it does seem fairly high for an old system (especually during a time in which there is such a new and huge popularity for new systems). The Neo Geo uses to sell for 500 dollars, but what is the condition of the system? You might be able to haggle the price down a bit depending on the answers methinks.

Edit: Though... If it is Metal Slug you want. Have you checked out Metal Slug Anthology yet? Now that is quite the deal.

It's not an auction. It's at a used bookstore here in town that sells games and movies and, well a little of everything, really. It isn't that I want Metal Slug, per se. It's more along the lines of "Wow a Neo CD! I want that!" I'm torn. I don't want to get ripped off, but I don't want to miss out either. I can't really afford it either way, but they can extend the hold for me until I get paid again. It gives me more time to think about it, and more time to assemble some crap to trade in for credit.

Ah I see. Well good luck saving up enough for it. Just make sure to ask them if you can try the system out first before leaving the store if they have a no returns policy. I've found systems at used stores before that were all broken and still being sold without any chance of refund.
It is expensive, but when you think about it, if it is something you would really like to have than the price isn't the issue, just the money it takes to get to that price. lol Believe me I've spent that kind of cash on much worse systems, including the Philips CD-i system for the crappy marketed Zelda games that came out for it. So when you compare it to that, your deal is not so bad! : )

It is a pretty cool system, and there's an interesting RPG for it - Samurai Spirits RPG. I haven't played it myself, but it seems really nice.
Remember though, the loading times on that system are really painful.
