I just got a PS3, & was wondering, if there's anyway I can play import PS1 & 2 games on my PS3. Plus, I was wondering if there is anything like HD Loader where you can port your games onto the HDD. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated Oh, & when I say mods, I obviously mean, software, not hardware, where I have to crack this thing open. I've never paid this much for a system, &, there's just no way I'll bust it open. The one thing I'm glad for, is that, it's the 60 Gig model, so, I got the hard emu going on, plus, I'll be getting $150 credit back for the purchase(as it was my first Sony card purchase from a Sony Style store), & there's no interest for a year, so, I'll have it paid off before then:)

Wow. Why did you buy it? I thought you didn't get new systems and stuff because they were too expensive. Then you chose to buy the most expensive system on the market. Anyway, there is no way to do it. Some doods have managed to use Swap Magic in order to play burned PS2 games, but it's hard work, and it requires you to have your system wide open. So no, there is no way to do it. At all. There are rumors of an ISO loader (for PS3 games) coming soon though. That is, running PS3 games off the hard drive. However, in a couple of weeks there will be a memory card application coming out for the PS2 that works like a modchip. Lets you play burned and imported games without any hardware modification, swap or any crap like that. Just put in the disc and play. Should be interesting to most of you doods. Check it out!

I got it, because, I know eventually, I'm going to want one, and, I got a special deal. Basically, I signed up for a Sony Style card, & bought this so I get $150 back, so, I basically got it for $350 instead of $500. There's 0% interest for 12 months, so, I'll have it paid off in a year with no interest. Plus, it's the 60 Gig model, which, as far as anyone can tell, will be the last PS3 to have hardware emulation for PS1/2 games. The 80 Gig is all software emulation(& apparently so are all the Euro models). Plus, I know eventually, there's going to be some game, that I'm going to absolutely want(like a new Suikoden or Jak & Daxter or Wild Arms). So, that's why I got it. And who knows when the price of the system itself will actually go down. All Sony keeps doing is keep it at the $600 by adding another 20 Gigs Well, it would rock if somebody ever made my dream come true, so that I can have PS1/2 games on my PS3 drive!

I believe the hardware PS1/2 support has been disabled in the recent firmware upgrades, as it is no longer supported. Software is the only way to go dude! Here's VAST. The modchip memory card which costs money. Which is bad. www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=20080Here's FREEVAST, they're hacking those greedy VAST bastards and making their app freely available, to be used with any memory card! Which is good. freevast.biz/

The PS3 I have has the emotion engine in it, so, pretty much all games work, I only found one that didn't so far, which was Monkey Hero for PS1. And even then, there will be general updates for all PS3's via software.

here's a page that deals with mods and hdloader www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=ps3.htmli looked into the forum... someone has mentioned a hdloader for ps2 but does not work for backup... even at $350... ps3 is not worth it.

I agree. But, I'm not paying $350 upfront. I'm just forking over 30 bucks a month for a year, to own, what looks like to be the best version of the PS3 to have. Plus, I know it's going to be an even longer time then expected before I get a 360, as I'm tired of hearing about my friends 360's crashing. MS can suck a lemon for their terrible hardware. But, anyways, with this deal, & figured it's the only way I'd get one, within the next couple years or so, & I like having the option to buy a game that I really want, for a system I own. So, the next Tomb Raider that comes out, or Jak or Suikoden, I'm ready for ya(that is, unless they end up on the 360......which I doubt on the first 2).

$30/month for a year is ok... but i dont see enough games for ps3 to justify buying it.
i bought my ps2 when it was version 10... and i found a deal during christmas. lol I will probably wait another 5 years or so before i consider buying a ps3. at least then, i'm sure most of the kinks in the ps3 are gone (hopefully).

For me, it was now..............or 5 years from now. If this deal didn't come up, within the next year or so, there would probably be some game I'd be dying to buy, but, didn't want to fork over money for a PS3....so, now I have it. It's the 360 that I'm now probably going to wait a long time to make sure they got all the hardware kinks worked out. I have several friends that have gone thru 2 or 3 360's, & it's great there's a warrenty, but, still, that's just ridiculous!

I want to Dynasty Warriors Gundam, but, not at $60, I want to get Heavenly Sword, but, not at $60, etc. Even Uncharted I don't want bad enough to pay $60 for(it's made by the guys who did the Jak & Daxter series). So, there's nothing I absolutly want, I've gotten a couple of games for around $20, so, that works for me, but, yeah, there's really nothing, atleast for me, that makes me want to jump up for joy for yet.

An HD Loader for the PS3 would be so awesome although you would need at least a terabyte hard drive to be able to store a large amount of games on it.

Well, that's if I wanted to store PS3 games, which would be cool! But, I'd be really happy, just to store PS1/2 games, that would rock. I'd maybe be able to beat some old games that I've been trying to get back to for years, like say, Wild Arms 2, the 3 Arc the Lad's, Final Fantasy Origins, just to name a few games that I started, but didn't finish years ago.

i think the hdl people are working on a ps3...
i wanna play Ratchet and Clank for the ps3 but I'm in no hurry... besides, I dont think any games is worth the $50 price tag. Hurray for bargain bins! lol And you know the prices of games are BOUND to come down eventually. So, there's no hurry in buying a system or a game yet. for me, at least.
My most disappointing thing is you pay $50+ for a game and when you try it out... it's crap and you can't refund it because you've already opened the package. That's why you rent but it REALLY pisses me off when you rent it and it wasn't even worth the rental price!

Yeah, there's not many games these days, I'd ever pay 50+ bucks for, unless it's really rare & on a classic system, like my Turbo. Even then, I'm careful to get good deals. The few games that will eventually come out for PS3, that I really want though, I will buy right away, but thankfully they'll be few & far between. I'm loving paying greatest hits prices on games these days though!

That's why PC gaming rocks so much. Next gen games, with better graphics, no need for a console and no need for mod chips and whatnot in order to play free games.

But if you want to keep up with PC next gen gaming then you have to fork over money to keep upgrading your system. At least consoles have 5 to 10 year life spans.

Naw, you can upgrade your PC every three years and still be able to play all the latest games. Consoles last for five years, and then you have to live with the poor graphics. At least it's better this time around, since the real consoles feature HD resolutions.

I don't think we've seen the full potential of the PS3 and XBOX360 yet and wont until 2009/2010. The biggest problem I have with PC games is the much higher potential of games crashing due to not having your settings adjusted right. Console games are good to go right out of the box. Besides, console games have much more customization options then they did in the 90's. Even if a console game is released with serious bugs, you can now download updates and put it on the consoles hard drive. You cant get your Wii game on from a PC.

Really, I think the whole online stuff hard drive is going to hurt console gaming in the long run, as now it allows for patching of console games. Patching is one of the big pitfalls of PC gaming, due to the fact that it is possible to release an incomplete game and then do patches later. One of console games' allures was that they couldn't do this.
Not only that, I am suspicious of micro payments for content, as Square/Enix seems to want do with FFXIII. Admittedly, this is a slippery slope argument, but I don't see much of a fall between micro payments for bonus content to selling a stripped down game at a fairly normal price, then demanding micropayments to take the game from being bare bones but playable to what it is supposed to be.
And, admittedly, I don't want to have to buy my bonus content. I want it part of the game I've already bought.
