Now that the game it out, I'm fully planning on ordering it, but I really don't want to run into a million and one issues while installing it on a US operating system. I've read through some of the threads, but it seems that there are differing views on how to go about installing the Japanese game on a US operating system. I'm currently running Windows XP, and planning on buying the DVD version. What, if any, plugins would be pertinent and/or helpful, and what steps need to be made to get it installed quickly and easily. Also, any joypad configurations and keypad translations might help as well. I'm not sure how many people actually have the game up, running, and have everything good to go, but I thought this thread may help out the few of us who may run into some issues.

for Ys 6 cd you have to set the regional settings to japanese on a usa pc for it to play, you will probably have to do the same for this one, does not cost anything . as for the controller if it is anything like all the other Ys for the pc all i did was plug the controller in and start the game and the buttons were configured perfectly. i am not to sure however if you need the regional codes for the dvd version, if it is anything like a normal dvd i know regional codes can be a annoyance to get by that is why i prefer CD versions for import games. i have never tried setting the regional codes in a dvd player

I am a westerner and used applocale to run OIF. Works like a charm. There appears to be two different ways to run the game. A regular way and DirectX9.

AppLocaleJust launch AppLocale and point it to the installer. Then, launch AppLocale and point it to both the config application and the game itself. AppLocale will give you the option to save a shortcut for each of these. After the shortcut has been made, you may simply launch the games from those new shortcuts. This works for either version (CD or DVD) of the game. In fact, this ought to work for most games from any region and/or using any non-Unicode format. No OS settings need be altered. Cheers.

Okay, not to be a pain, but by "point it to the installer" do you mean search for the EXE and CONFIG files with the browse option the program gives you? I downloaded AppLocale, and sifted through some of its options, but I suppose it's difficult to test out without having the actual game.

Okay, not to be a pain, but by "point it to the installer" do you mean search for the EXE and CONFIG files with the browse option the program gives you? No worries. Correct, you'll launch AppLocale twice. You'll browse for the config app first and create a shortcut. Then, on the second run, you'll browse for the game and create a shortcut. You may then use those new shortcuts to play the game.

Hopefully it won't take too incredibly long to get here. Thanks for your help.

I was actually able to install the game without using applocale. After I installed the game I used Applocale and browsed to the falcom folder and found the exe related to directX9. There are two exe files to run the game. Standard and DirectX9.

I dont know technically the reason but I would assume the DirectX9 method is sharper and smoother graphics wise.

Okay. This sucks. So, I finally installed the game and I was about to play it. However... it won't start. When I click on the game, nothing happens. When I click on config, nothing happens.

It won't run on English Windows. You have to change your system language to Japanese. If you're on XP, you can do this through Regional & Language Settings in the control panel. Otherwise, I don't know, sorry... It prompts me for my XP Cd and I have no idea where that is. Any other solution whatsoever to change regional settings? Oh and the best part is, Windows told me to download a new service pack to get East asian language support to be able to change regional settings. The BEST part is...I downloaded the thing, installed it, it took forever, my computer is now crappier than ever, and still nothing has changed on the east asian language support. Thank you for the crappy update that has changed everyhing I once loved about this computer.

It works like a charm! Thanks! ---Ugh. No matter how many Falcom games I play, the requiremet to keep the disk in gets agitating... mostly because I have a broken piece on the laptop that pops off the CD/DVD-ROM harddrive, but... yeah. e.e
Anyway, thaks Deuce.

Basically my problem lies in the fact that I can not change my regional setting to Japanese. I can not intall the East Asian language packs because I don't have the Windows XP cd to do it. I had a friend custom build this computer for me, who no longer lives anywhere near me, and I am without the disk(s). I have searched for hours for a fix for this. Does anyone know where to find this in a downloadable verison?
