Odd stuff. Do you have the latest patch installed? It might change that file, but I don't know. I heard about and downloaded and installed the latest patch after I've beaten the game the first time. Re-install the game maybe?

Blimey, that fire dragon boss is giving me grief. I just can't seem to avoid it when it comes out of the pits, no matter which direction I run I always take a hit.

Re: Fire dragon boss
Once it comes out of the pit, it stays on ground level while it's on fire. I suggest jumping and using the wind bracelet once or twice to stay in the air. Also, make sure to stay away from its head.

I advice you to start over. That boss is one of the easier ones on normal, and the game's challenging enough on normal. Playing it on higher difficulties means that you'll have to level up more, and in my opinion - that's the worst part about this game. You have to level up all the time!

You people sure know how to waste your time. 160 tries? Wow! That's .... a lot. He he.

Yeah, and they need to keep the awesome violin arrangements in there too, as well as that 80's style synth/power rock. I've probably played through the Valestein clock tower a dozen times just to hear the music.

I'm currently trying to slay this bastard, "Gildias..." on Inferno mode, though... Heh, I had to beat him on Hard without getting hit three times at level 31 with my gear I've been using since the haunted mine at max level. That was pretty... funny. Didn't expect him to dive in and try to bite me 4 times at the same moment he flew up and dropped the icicle shards. It was really funny of Falcom to make me have to shield bash him twice instead of once to cause him to fall down too. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to beat dual-wielding Chester quickly by exploiting his shield repel attack, but I keep dying in the process because I'm a little impatient. It really does suck that the only way to deal any real damage to him is to slash him. I'd like it if the fire element did a little bit more than 1 point of damage.

I can't find the fourth bunch of Raval in Redmont, when Anya sends you off to find them after you return from boshing Intervista. On the Walkthrough I printed out it says 'In the shadow of the pillar by the Inn' but I can't see anything for the life of me. In fact, I don't even know what that refers to, as I see no pillars by the Inn. Am I just being completely blind?

Make sure you are correctly in Japanese mode, I've seen Falcom games crash before because it was not done correctly.
There's a couple steps I always go through to make sure my computer is in Japanese mode.
1. From the control panel, once you choose Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab first. Then Install files for East Asian Languages, then click apply.
2. Next click the Advanced tab, you'll want to make sure to select Japanese to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use. Click apply again. The PC will need to be restarted, and should ask you automatically if you want to restart.
Hpoefully this can help.

I got a problem with the third boss Istersiva. I beat it but it acted strange. It is supposed to attack you with a worm and when you kill him the main body should start to attack you with various pattern. Well the worm dont die and the boss sometimes start to attack when he want, sometimes do nothing. Usually it stay on the top turned back like if is not able to move. Also when you slice the worm, Adol slide all over the ground or sometimes he dont hit him. I killed the boss killing the worm. I saw a video on youtube and the boss is completly different. I'd rather kill it in the right way.
Tried the normal EXE and the DX9 one. I'm on Win XP SP2. Game patched with the 1.2.0.3 VE and the NW beta translation.

Okay, how do you beat.. I can't see his name it's in Japanese, but he's like a walking tank. Shoots a Laser if I'm out in front of him, drops mines consistently, jumps around fires rocket volleys and heat seeking rockets at me. I read a guide on how to beat him but it's complete fucking bullshit, I tried everything it said but this fucker does toooo much damage in so little time.
*EDIT* Well I did it somehow, I upgraded my shield once.. but I doubt that would of done that much more.

It's either a bug, or you missed an important event. Did you:
- Go back and get the 3rd statue from the Abandoned Mines? - Talk to the Mayor and/or visit the Church in Redmont? - Return Elena from the docks nearby Valestine Castle? - Defeat the three harpies midboss on Elderm Mountain?
I understand skipping any of those could prevent Dogi from appearing, and infact prevent the midboss from appearing... however, if you go back and take care of business as usual, the game should continue on as normal.

I'm having trouble with the game freezing. I've seen a similar problem where people say that the sound gives off a beeping noise - for me, it continues to play the music normally, and everything else freezes. I can usually access the Windows Taskbar, but it won't load anything except for the Task Manager. It seems to be random when and where this freezing occurs. I believe I first noticed it in the Abandoned Mines, and it's frozen once every dungeon since then. Typically, I'd play for 30-60 minutes, it would freeze, I'd reset the computer, and play for 3-4 hours without a problem. It's never been much of a problem until now, since it would usually freeze while I was still struggling to survive in an area. Now, however, I'm trying to complete the Time Attack mode, and it seems to be freezing more often, typically any time during or after Death Falleon.
Here are my specs:
Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP2 Celeron CPU 2.59GHz, 256 MB of RAM DirectX 9.0c NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 (with the update from their site)
In the game's config menu, I have the "Standard" option boxes checked. I don't know whether this matters or not, but I haven't had to switch over to Japanese mode or use Applocale to play the game. I know everyone's always saying that you need to, but I don't for some reason. Interestingly, the system info in the game's config says that I'm a Japanese user with English language settings. I don't remember switching over to Japanese mode (but I do remember downloading some Chinese or Japanese language pack a couple years back), so I don't know why it would say that. I've also tried the DirectX version of the game, same problem.
Any suggestions?

Maybe you can try lowering the settings even more or try fiddling around the audio and video acceleration options in the Windows Control Panel.
Download the latest patch? (http://falcom.com/ysf/support/patch.html)
Play in full screen mode (if you aren't already)?
Do a check disk on your system?
Defrag the drive?
