Ys III was the 1st Ys game I ever played, and so naturally it has a special place in my heart. I never played the PCE version, but can definitely say the Genesis version was much better than the SNES version. In fact I'd probably even pick it over the PS2 remake just because that one could have been so much better than it ended up being.
Having said all that, I will say that "The Oath in Felghana" is exactly what I needed after Taito's lame attempt at a remake, and even more so for a die-hard fan of Ys III in general. This new version is by far the best!!!
um oddly enough i forgot the ps2 version existed. if i had put it i would have grouped it with snes and genesis just because the style was similar. oddly enough i own the ps2 version. but based on it i wont buy the 4 or 5th ones
Despite the fact that I don't hold it in such high regard compared to other games in the series, I like Ys 3 for what it is. The problem is that most people keep comparing it to Ys 1&2 or Ys 4. Granted, the game did have some issues with the gameplay, but it did have it's charm...not to mention the fantastic soundtrack.
That said, Ys OiF is superior in every way. The sound track has the best arrangements out of any version of Ys 3. This game has some of the most intense boss battles this series has seen. And the gameplay is just fun overall. I'll even go as far to say that Ys OiF is the best Ys game to date.
In the scope of the universe, a life is nothing but the tiniest glimmer of light, a split second. But within us lies the anger, the despair, that can set the entire universe ablaze....
