Well guys.....Just wanted to let you know how to pass the tree that the guy is standing next to outside the town. If you have done everything and have talked to everyone, everywhere, you should have noticed the music has changed in the first town from the original tune to a flute-like tune. Well it is because there is a girl sitting by the water playing a flute. She is located by the water monument to the LOWER right. Talk to everyone around her and her of course. Then you will see a small cut scene and she runs off. Next go find her. She is in the building located up by where the large building is where the guy first gave you money. You will know it is her because the music sounds like the flute music again in her shop. Once you find her talk to her in every possible manner and she will give you a flute. I dont know why but when I went back to where the fallen tree and guy was, they were both gone and I could progress. I hope this helps

UGH! Stuck again!!
When you climb the waterfall and go through the next board, at the end, it looks like there is an opening where you can go through but it is blocked off by what looks like rock material. I have tried everything I could think of, especially using the elemental swords to try to break through.... but nothing. It must be very specific on how to equip the swords i am guessing. Same thing is true with the abandoned building. It looks like you can go through but it is blocked off by rock material. Oh well....I'll keep tying.
BTW.....the music in this game is fantastic!

I think the music is terrible, just terrible.
I do like the Super Famicom soundtrack though.

Too bad they cut out a dozen or so tracks from the original version. Aww man, that's not good news at all. Can anyone confirm if the following pieces made it in the PS2 version? I'm not far in the game yet. I will be very unhappy if these were left out. Crimson Ruins (Ys V OST disc 1 #21) Wilderness (Ys V OST disc 2 #2) The Underground (Ys V OST disc 2 #5) Break into Territory (Ys V OST disc 2 #13) Turning Death Spiral (Ys V OST disc 2 #15)

All the other songs you have mentioned I have not heard yet.

I have progressed quite far now. I have made it past the Desert City which seems to have a sand storm nearby that I cant progress through yet. Anyhow, there is a pathway that leads to that broken bridge near the beginning of the game. The bridge is repaired and I have settled at the first town for now. I should be able to beat the game later tonight. Tune in for further details.

You're supposed to go through the sandstorm. You'll need an item which you can buy from the merchant in the town next to the sandstorm. If you equip it you'll be able to see through the sand and a hidden path will reveal itself.
You aren't supposed to use the bridge and return to Xandria yet. Go through the sandstorm first. Then things will ... happen ... there.
If this is anything like the SFC version, you haven't gotten very far.

Damn, that was a quick post Seldane! Thanks for the tip about the sandstorm. The Desert City has some very catchy music. The story seems to really pick up once you get past the waterfall/cave area(which has some nice platforming). For people who are still far behind, make sure you play the Ruins area before you play the waterfall area. You need a key from the nearest City to progress in the ruins. Hit the sword that has wings attached to open further blocked doors in the ruins. The waterfall/cave area has a blocked door leading to boss that WILL NOT OPEN unless you beat the boss of the ruins first. Anyhow, I will try to get through that sandstorm as you mentioned Seldane even though I can go back to the beginning of the game. Tune in Ys freaks for the next episode.

Well, you aren't supposed to go back yet. Nothing will happen there. Go through the sandstorm first and you'll get to a dungeon. When you've finished that dungeon you're supposed to return to Xandria and lots of interesting stuff will happen.

Anyhow, I will try to get through that sandstorm as you mentioned Seldane even though I can go back to the beginning of the game. Tune in Ys freaks for the next episode. You first must go down from the town and sand storm and find Dogi and some strange creature. Dogi takes you back to the sand town and you have to fight a ton of creatures. When you are finished you go back down to where you first saw Dogi and there will be an oasis, and beyond that, the lost city of Kefin. I have went through the city and found Terra and then ended back at the oasis. I have not been through the sand storm yet. Fun boss in the lost city though. Not sure what to do now. btw.....before the oasis is a tent and you can save there and buy goods.

After you beat that boss in the Oasis Ruins, you have to guide Tera out of the Ruins without the enemies killing her. By the way, those Oasis Ruins are huge and its easy to get lost. I remember finding two key items in the Oasis Ruins. Once you guide Tera back out cutscenes will occur. This is now time to go to that sandstorm you saw earlier. There will be a bunch of people near the sandstorm. Talk to them and then a cutscene brings you to Kefin the lost City in the Sand. In the dungeons if you go all the way north, there are guards to the east and west that wont let you go up the stairs. They keep making you do these mini fight sequences with smaller guards. Anyhow, if you go all the way south, you will reach the South Tower. This area is pretty big but its also enjoyable. There is puzzle elements in this area. I dont want to spoil much but in this area you will have to make use of the 4 elemental magics to progress. Above the dungeons, and south tower is Kefin the city with tons of shops and a castle next to it. The guards at the castle wont let me in. This is where I am currently stuck in the game. I have leveled Adol up to 41 and have talked to everyone. There is something I'm missing to progress farther but havnt figured it out yet. Damn, so close!

No, I havnt played since the day I got really into trying to beat the game. The only thing I can think of is maybe you have to put on certain items or equipment to trigger a cutscene? Maybe even cast a certain order of magic? I asked Kurt from hardcore gamer 101 for help but he hasnt played all the way to the end. We need somebody who understands japanese in order to advance or somebody who gets incredible lucky to figure out how to trigure the next event.

hi to everyone! well... I'm stuck near the save point in the desert section after the river section (where you have to jump on the rocks) There's a passage blocked by a wall... could you help me? thanx! I know exactly what your talking about. Your going to need to get out of that cave and go North of the nearest town. There is an ancient ruins area that you need to play first. Also, your going to need to get a key from somebody in the nearest town in order to progress in the ancient ruins. Once you defeat the boss of the ancient ruins, that blocked off wall in the desert cave that you describe will open and another boss fight will commence. I havnt played this game since I got stuck cause I'm hoping somebody will pass it and spread the news. I would like to beat this game eventually so whoever gets past where I described above then speak.
