Yeah yeah. So I'm late on the Extra Disc thing. I just ordered it several weeks ago and received it a few days ago. Shut up. I finally installed it last night and IT IS LOVE. <3 <3 I'm having way too much fun in Arena Mode but I suck (and cuz the X button on my controller doesn't work well which means I can't readily make the characters jump) so I'm playing the stages on Easy. XD And sorry, Deuce, I love my Yunica; I've been spamming Phoenix like mad at every enemy swarm (even those that are strong against fire). Edit: I am a total Claw user now. Ver. Extra is amazing. XDThe only other character I like to use for mob control is The Claw. It's quite hilarious to use Godspeed while slime is on the ground. XD But a lot of times, him ending up on the other side of the floor is a life saver. ^^; If I could control the timing of when the Depth Charges explode a bit better, I'd love Hugo more in Arena Mode. ._.~ Oh, I have played a few on Normal and Hard. I dread to move beyond Easy from the Silent Desert onward though. I'm up to Poisonous Blood now so I take it I have one or two more to unlock? I guess I'll farm for some more SP in the PB stage. :P I'm not looking forward to getting Adol unless they changed him from the create-extra-files-to-unlock-him hack. I dunno. He wasn't very interesting or fun to use in Time Attack then. *shrugs* Edit: Hail Thor!

Better late than never, eh? I have yet to order that disc myself. :P What are you waiting for? Postage is cheap! :O Also! Gameplay video! XD I just wish Fraps would let me select my sound input. >:/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrF0Fj_C3pc

Yeah, I doubt they'll be running out of that extra disc anytime soon. Only time you'd need to worry is when and if they discontinue making Origin itself, which isn't likely to happen for awhile, I should think.
And Arena mode is YAY! XD I need to play it more so I can afford the extra versions of everybody. Lazy me only recently got YsF Adol...
Maybe I'm an idiot, or maybe I missed it- but what DO the extra versions of the three mains offer, anyway?

Thor, with a godly thunder attack? Imagine that... Heehee. I know, that was bad. Dammit, after having the Super Arrange rendition of Silent Desert blasting in my ears for 90% of my day, I think I need to go play me some Origin. RIGHT NOW. XD Time to see how much a couple months away from the game has made me suck... Oh... and it's good to see you around again, nunuu!! Missed ya! XD

This is such a quiet forum so I thought I'd revive this thread since last night! I did the unthinkable!
I actually managed to clear a stage in 56 seconds! With The Claw! On Extra mode! On Easy!
Now if I could remember which one it was, I would tell ye!
!!
Oh, and I was never able to do it again. :((((((
I've yet to manage to clear any stage in Normal under a minute too. >:E
Oog. Another thing that happened is that I finally "purchased" the Ys VI version of Adol. But I still hate using him in the arena. >:/

I wasn't too fond of VI Adol myself, aside from the fact his magic is now quickly replenished; it's been nerfed. ...and I never ever say that. I've been hanging around World of Warcraft junkies too long. Under 56 seconds is quite a feat! What does it take to fight the hidden boss anyway?

What does it take to fight the hidden boss anyway? I have no idea. I actually thought about that this morning too! Bah! Just checked a Japanese Website and apparently, you have to either clear all stages on Nightmare mode with Yunica, Hugo, and Thor or clear Easy, Normal and Hard with each of the 3 characters. I think I'll take the latter way cuz Nightmare will kill me instantly. :(

Oooh, yikes. This indeed is going to be tricky. Yunica's not my best character. Thor on the other hand... I love the extra version because his claw just sucks up all the enemies like a black hole. It's so cool!

Phooey. I can't finish Evil Core on Hard with The Claw.
... And I can't even get past the first stage with Hugo. :P
I didn't even bother with Yunica. ^^

Recently reinstalled my Extra Disc. I guess I have to beat the game with Toal (Thor or Claw for those who do things differently in translation) to unlock Arena mode. Otherwise, I have one question as I really can't remember...
The extra ver. characters (Yunica, Hugo, Toal) can be used in story mode, right?

Hum, I know this place is somewhat inactive. Just recently bought Thor Extra Ver. and I really can't see the difference. Can anyone point out just what is "extra"?

I just cleared all stages on Nightmare with all three characters, plus YsF Adol... and didn't get any secret boss. :( None of the stages were too bad except for the desert (kind of tough for a couple of the characters) and the evil core (which was horrifying). I literally spent hours on that last stage with each character, doing one character per night... except for Hugo, who strangely blew right through it after just a couple of tries, and has proven through repeat performances to have a much easier time of it. He tends to have trouble at the very beginning (where you can easily restart), whereas the others all run into trouble at the very end (where you howl in rage when you have to restart). I can now also get through it fairly consistently with Thor, but Yunica and YsF Adol are still a hellish nightmare (although EX Yunica isn't that tough, and EX Hugo and Thor just feel like cheating :P ). Just tried YsVI Adol, died within seconds, and decided to back off for now. :o

X_X I dunno then. :x See, on the Falcom Daisuki page, it reads: "Nightmareモードで3キャラ全てクリア, またはEasy/Normal/Hardモードそれぞれを3キャラ全てクリア" (Question 7 on homepage1.nifty.com/sugimo/falcom/Ys/ys0guide.htm#faq.) Unless I'm horribly off, it just reads to clear Nightmare mode or the other modes with all 3 characters. The site usually gives accurate info. D: I wonder if patching the game to the newest patch does something to the mysterious stage 7! :O!

Hmmm, I wonder what went wrong then? As I mentioned in my other topic, I did get some weird crashes that caused me to lose my unlocked bonuses while still retaining my times, so I wonder if that had something to do with it. Oh well, I figure I'll end up doing the other difficulties anyway, and now that I've done Nightmare, they shouldn't be too bad.

How strange. I have the arena mode boss unlocked and the only notable thing I did was beat the story with everyone on all the difficulties. Other than that, it's just random beating of different bosses and arena areas on random difficulties. I'm not quite good enough to beat arena or boss rush on hard yet, let alone nightmare.

Oh, believe me, the only thing that got me through it was stubbornness. When I started up my Thor story mode on Nightmare, there were a couple of times where I thought "Oh, I'm dead in about three seconds... This must be that boss fight where it's okay to lose, like the other characters each had... wait, no, it isn't? Holy crap. I've got to win this!?" I just ran through the Hard mode Arena with all three characters, and I'm getting a much better appreciation for just how much tweaking Falcom does for each difficulty level. I'd always noticed in Felghana the changes made to the bosses, but now I'm even seeing changes in the behavior of the regular enemies. (Rates of fire, degree of homing capability, ability to inflict status effects, etc.) But the biggest difference is just how short your boost lasts. On Nightmare, it seems like it drains within seconds, so I had to carefully plan when I used it in relation to my level-ups, and through trial-and-error I learned that there were some parts where if I didn't have a full gauge saved up, I was pretty much guaranteed to die. I usually used it in a "defensive" manner, immediately activating the burst attack at a specific moment to clear particularly annoying enemies (those damned flying wizards with the homing shots!!!) the second they spawned so that I had a fighting chance against the remaining enemies. But on Hard, it lasts soooo much longer, so take advantage of it! You can go on the offensive, often ripping through several "stages" of enemies on just one boost gauge.... and then activate your burst attack right at the end to drag out the carnage even longer. EDIT: Oh, for the final group of enemies on the last stage of the Arena: kill the flying guys as fast as you can (BURST ATTACK THE SECOND THEY SPAWN!!!) and then just run like hell from the armored guys until your boost fills up.... and then Burst Attack them again.... and repeat. You won't get a great time doing it that way, but for the love of god, you'll be ALIVE.
