Yep, it is the best! Every time I play it I have to turn the volume up high. Hands down the best game ever made. The only thing that could top it is if Falcom remade it.

I agree that Ys I is the best game ever made, but I find Ys Book I & II highly overrated. I've been meaning to write a review for it. You will all hate me after that.

Ramia Village has my all time favorite village theme.

Madness. The best village tune is without doubt "Under the Occupation" from Ys VI.

Yeah the other village tunes in Ys VI are nice too, but I prefer Under the Occupation, it doesn't really sound like the typical village tune. I hate village music!

Another one that fits into the category of "not your typical village theme" is "Leeza" from Ys IV. I LOVE THAT MUSIC! The version on the Ys IV JDK Special is synth perfection. I must listen now.

Why do people avoid Ys V? The best Ys! Not the PS2 version though, that is--by far--the WORST Ys ever and maybe even the worst GAME ever! Anyway--sad village tune in Ys I? What do you mean?

Ys V has some INCREDIBLE village music. It's a shame Ys VI only had two villages, as Ys IV & V had many. That's the way I like it.

Yeah definitely. The more villages, the merrier. ...And make the villages USEFUL too, please. I hate "filler" villages.

Ys Book I and II (in my opinion) IS perfect....not overrated. I can ALMOST say the same thing for The Shadow of the Colossus, Metroid Prime, and Zelda Ocarina of Time.
As for the best village music in Ys, it is in Ys VI when the soldiers take over the one town. The sad melody. I do not know the name of it.

There is no PC version of Ys V, it is just an emulated version (by project EGG). You probably already have it, as I assume you've got Ys VI LE. Zepik village does not have its own village tune, First Step Towards Wars is being played there as well. They've changed the music in the bastardized versions of Ys though (X68000, PC Engine, etc) but it is different in many versions. You can easily play SFC games on an american SNES, just cut off two plastic pieces and you're ready to go. I've only heard bad things (VERY bad things) about the Mahoujin Guruguru games, but I do love the second game's box. Also--why do you want to play the PCE version of Popful Mail rather than the SFC one? The latter was actually developed by Falcom themselves and is superior in every regard.

Oh yeah, the SFC Popful Mail is amazing, and what a great town theme. I did not know First Step Towards Wars played in Zeptic in other versions of Ys. That's pretty cool.

The PCE version of Popful WASN'T developed by Falcom? Hmmm... I definitely thought it was. The anime cutscenes aren't from Falcom themselves, then? Nope. Developed by some NEC department. It is pretty faithful to the original PC-8801 version, but no--Falcom didn't touch this one (they didn't touch ANY PCE game except LoX1 and 2). Oh and Faxanadu is not a Falcom game--they didn't touch that one either. It was 100% developed by Hudson Soft. The only Falcom connection is that Hudson licensed the name (Xanadu was so popular at the time, I guess they just wanted a little of that, hehehe), that's it.

Faxandu was fun, if really badly translated. Had a lovely environment about it, too.

I think the song that wyrdward is talking about is Tears of Sylph, it also plays when you are talking to Sarah, and Jeva and the like. It was one of the best pieces on the Ys I soundtrack. IIRC, it only played in Zeptic in the Eternal and Complete versions of Ys.

Ys Book I & II = A Legend which can't be compared to any other game ever made and probably to any other game that shall be made. Even if it had a remake, it wouldn't match the original.
Kinda like that.
Also just a curiosity, the first time I played 'Ys Book I & II' I was 1 year old. That's what you heard, believe me or not. (Thanks to my older brothers)

Although my favorite version of Ys I (I haven't played much Ys II, yet.) is Complete, I LOVE the music from Book I&II. It had my favorite version of many of the songs.
