So... I was looking about a bit before asking this, in case I might get my answer to this without repeating already answered questions, but since the only topic I found was an ancients old one in The Dump section (and I really felt odd reviving that...), I'm asking away. Does anybody here who exactly (or, in case of multiple people, who all [since the styles have changed with time]) is/are the artist(s) behind all the Ys artwork. Or actually, the exact question that has been jumping around in my mind for quite a while - who was the original artist of Ys? The one who designed all the original characters? Considering how all the Ys artwork is one of the most gorgeous I've ever seen, it's such a shame that no one but Falcom is credited to it, and none of the artists get their share of glory! After reading that old topic, I went searching away but only found some information on Minao Iwasaki (and was rewarded with a gorgeous Adol art too! ), but considering she's only worked on Ys I.II Eternal (and Complete?)... who's done the rest? (Right place? Right place? I do hope I'm not posting wrong!!)

The VERY FIRST Ys artwork is really ugly (not surprisingly, it's basically just some sketches, not much though was put into it, as it wasn't important), it can only be seen in the manuals for the original versions of Ys 1 (PC-8801, FM-77, etc). I've been meaning to scan that just so that people can see how crazy it looks.
As for the in-game artwork etc, it's different for every game, but I think the same guy made the artwork for Ys VI and Ys Origin, at least.

As far as the art in the Falcom History: Legend of Illustrations artbook goes, I know some names of some of the artists whose work is featured. Aoi Nanase, Jyun Suemi, Hitoshi Yoneda, Hiroyuki Nishimura and Katsuya Terada Unfortunately, I don't know who worked on what, but may be at least those names can be of help. You can view the artbook here: gallery.digik.net/gallery/201

Does he have brown hair and gloves, blue overalls and a red mantle and jewlery on his forehead?
Or should I say.... A TIARA!!

Oh my! Wow wow wow! Thank you so much for that link! I feel like I'm in Ys art heaven! Honestly, I half expected that no one would have the answer... (wonder why...?) Thank you! I'm guessing... (REALLY guessing!) looking at Gamemusicfreak's list, perhaps Aoi Nanase had a hand in Oath in Felghana's art? It has a certain 'cute-ness' to it. Personally, I think I liked VI's art the most (followed by this one promotinal piece from V), but perhaps I'm biased because that's the only version I have (and is not lying too far away from my sight right now!) I didn't mind Origin's artwork, although I haven't looked much at that. Too tempting! They did have that 'too perfect' static-ness though! I'd love to see that someday!! Heh... wouldn't it be sad if the actual designer/creator of Adol made him thinking 'Ah blah! Let's just get this rotten work over with and make any silly looking guy! Who cares anyways?!'

It's just a compilation book, some random stuff taken from other books.

Mweh heh heh.... those pictures really made my day!!! Adol looks as beefed up as Dogi! Heh... they are bad! (Superman inspired...? ) Now I'm even more curious about who this great artist was and want to see how his/her work has developed! Er... *finicky* the bottom right image on the secondpage is actually not so bad... Like something out of old storybooks/textbooks? (and the more I look at it... the upper left ones - of Adol's profile and the washed ashore one are decent too.)

Yeah, that's the first picture! Are there more of them? There are several in the manual, but now I won't need to scan them. Aaah, what a stress reliever.

That's neat to know! For a simple reason: Many of us always wondered... why did a very unimportant (relatively) character who even didn't appear on Ys 2 became Adol's sidekick. There never was a special reason. Most of us, including myself, have thought Falcom decided to give him a greater role in the series while making Ys III. But from these scans, it seems there ALREADY was something greater planned for him even before Ys 1, no? Which is cool. Perhaps the story-writer of Ys 1 and 2 (forgot his name) already had plans for Dogi. So, Dogi becoming major starting from Ys 3 was somewhat his idea too. Maybe.

Nah, I don't think there were any plans. Ys 2 was not originally planned, it was just something they came up with after having made Ys 1. Originally, there was just going to be one game - Ys 1 and nothing else.

I was always interested in the Ys cellphone games, but I could never try them out myself. The Hudson website even said it was available for T-Mobile, but I could never get it on my T-Mobile, even through their games page. It's like it never exists but to tease. It'd be easier to "download" it to my PC and uhhh... "play" it, than it would to actually buy it from a company which claims to have it but doesn't really. Bad T-Mobile... bad bad bad...

Aaaah... mobile... Peh! That explains it! I guess I should give up all hope of ever even glancing upon this one then, since there certainly be no T-Mobile here! And my Mobilink connection doesn't seem like it'll ever be struck by the holy thunder of Dogi Ys games! It certainly would be nice if one could download it onto one's computer and play it! Er...
