Well, one thing I can say. There WERE people who actually enjoyed these DS versions. People who even strongly defended them before. Also of course the people translating these DS games liked them. Otherwise they wouldn't have put so much effort into translating them. Note: I personally never tried them yet, but I doubt it's any worse than PS2 Ys IV (which, btw, I managed to like and enjoy). And I didn't know Konami did that back then. xD OMG, that's freaking cool.

I'll buy this if only to support localized Ys games and Atlus.

Now I am glad I didn't order the Japanese ones. I was really considering spending over $100 for the 2 games.

*nods* That's why I preordered that. Plus, I'm curious about what that chest in the secret area says in English. Furthermore, I am hopeful that Atlus corrects some of the errors; Adol getting all chunky and pixelated unless he's zoomed-in on (like the beginning of the cliff leading to Darm Tower and the Shrine -- that's the only time his sprite looks perfect.) Subter. Canal's poorly converted (yes, I believe it's a conversion from midi to mod/it) music, as well as Companile of Lane. The music gets very out of tune on those two poorly converted pieces. Otherwise, I LOVE it. I give the games 8/10, together.
Edit: Only the Japanese versions include the OST and necklace, I think. Hopefully Atlus makes a deal with these like they're doing with Persona 4.

By the way, where is the misspelling of Ys on the Atlus site? ??? I looked all over for it and I'm getting the feeling I've gone incredibly blind! I can't see! It's gone. :) Me and a couple of other fellows mentioned about that to Atlus USA and they fixed it fast. According to someone from their staff it was a mistake from webmaster's side and that they know how to spell (and pronounce) Ys correctly. Uh, how does one pronounce "eess"? Like ... what is with the double S? There's also no such thing as Ys I Eternal. :P And isn't it Ancient Ys Vanished? Looks like you have to fire off some other e-mails at Atlus, MP83!

Like "eese" in geese, fleece, "reese witherspoon", "keese" Like "iece" in niece, piece Like "eace" in peace Like "ease" in lease, cease Like "ice" in police
More importantly, you pronounce it "Ys"; not Y's, wise, whys or is.

Which begs me to ask... Gohan? What is this, Dragonball Ys?

"IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — OCTOBER 22, 2008 — Atlus U.S.A., Inc., future publisher of Xs and Zs, today announced Legacy of Ys"
T_T The punditry in that article makes me want to cry.

Looks like you have to fire off some other e-mails at Atlus, MP83! I don't want to bother them more. Do it yourself. As for the in-game texts: I e-mailed Atlus USA about the translation, regarding the romanization of names, and they basically just said that they're endeavoring to keep the names as close to the original Falcom stuff as possible and hope that we will be pleased with their treatment of the game. The only thing we can do is to trust that they know what they're doing. We need to be careful not to pester too much, or the game will get a sour reputation with developers. If it comes out as Sara and not Sarah I won't care. That's whining like a baby if you ask me. I think Atlus will do a good enough job, and even if its not up to par with our standards, I am just happy were getting it professionally localized.

Looks good, can't wait till it comes out. What I like about this one is that you get both games in it. But I feel very startled, I didn't think this one would actually come out of Japan.

I know I was pretty blind sided by its announcement too, but I am not complaining. Funny how you can wait for decades for a game to make its way here, and yet some games it takes 8 months. Go figure.

Yeah, what are the odds. I would be more excited if I never played the games before, I know there the best games ever but I am more preoccupied of the Ys games we never got like 4,5,Oath,origins,special. I mean 1and2 were practically on ever system, plus don't they have the game now on VC?

Even if the game flops, it will not damage Falcom's reputation where it counts, in Japan. But it is a shame that so many English speakers have gotten such a poor impression of Falcom due to the incompetence of various third-party publishers. At least Konami and Mastiff did their games justice - Ys VI and Gurumin turned out very well in English, and gained cult followings. Hopefully, Atlus does consider future Falcom PSP ports as well - though I'm still holding out hope for Mastiff or XSEED to pick up Zwei!!, as I think they'd do a better job with it than Atlus. -Tom True, but if Falcom actually cared about their reputation in the NA market, they would be a far more successful company. I think it is damaging to Falcom, because if they did things right here, they would make more revenue, which means more games, which means more Ys, and Zwei, and Legend of Heroes games in English. Its really obvious that Falcom has no intention of supporting, or establishing itself in our gaming market, and that really bums me out.

Just saw GMF's gameplay clip of it.
Personnally, I've got mixed impressions of it and would've much rather that Atlus ported the PS2 Version (but then again, that might be asking for alot).
Either way, wouldn't mind picking this up after I get a DS that is (currently saving up for a PS3).

The PS2 version ported to the PSP would have been awesome!! I really liked the PS2 versions alot, and the music was some of my favorite retools.
