This tool fixes the problem flawlessly, except that you have to run this tool every time you play. It also applies to a lot of other games. Awesome! Doing the work microsoft should be doing ...

Fixed (the tool above fixed it) the colour bug but now the screen is flickering. Is there any way to get rid of this problem? Whole flickering thing makes the game pretty much unplayable for me as I get a headache after just few minutes of playing Also I noticed that opening videos will not play at all. Ys I the music plays but no video, Ys II crashes as soon as I start the new game. If I disable avis then I can start Ys II too. Is this a codec issue since videos won't play even with my media player classic. If so, which codec should I get to fix it?

No idea about the screen flickering, but for the opening videos, the games use the "Indeo" codec, I believe.

I installed some Indeo codec but it didn't work until I downloaded ir50_32.dll file and ran it with cmd.exe Now the videos work (some progress yay) I hope I can make screen flickering a bit less some how or else all these efforts were for nothing since with that much flickering it does now there's no way I could play it E: Just as Albert told, closing other programs made flickering go away ^^ seems I can finally play this again

Ys2 just kicks me bk to my desktop Have you tried if your video player (like vlc or media player classic) can run the videos? The opening videos can be found in ys2_win data folder where you installed the game you'll probably have to download and instal old video codec. That was what was causing the crashes on my Ys II

For flickering I don't have any other "solution" than try to close as much background applications as possible

I used the batch file, but the screen flickered too much. Been browsing internet for several hours trying to find solution. First, if you can, disable hardware acceleration (not fully). Chances are you won't be able to do so, because windows 7 basically does not allow it on most cards.
What worked for me: check "run as administrator", run windows "classic" theme in personalization options.

I just thought I'd offer a little something with regards to running this. Rather than bothering with task manager it is probably better to create a batch file to run the game. All you have to do is create a new text file in the same directory as the executable and enter this (or the equivalent for Ys II): @echo off taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe Start /wait ys1_win.exe Start explorer.exe Then just save the file as something like Ys1.bat, and you're away. It will shut down explorer, run Ys, and the run explorer again when you exit Ys, plus you can redirect the shortcut to it if you like. Hey! This worked great. I suppose I'm about 2 years late, but thanks!

Well look like I'm a bit late...but I have another option to share! First, download this tool: www.mediafire.com/?rzzn3k9odso7u0bThen, extract it and run "dxwnd.exe". You should see "Ys I Complete" and "Ys II Complete" by now. Right click on "Ys I Complete" then choose "Modify". In the "Path:" box, just click the "..." button then browse to your "YS1_WIN.EXE" in your game folder. Then click OK. Do the same thing for "Ys II Complete". To run the game, just double click on their name or right click and choose "Run". The game will now run in a 800x600 window without color problem. Enjoy!! By the way, I have the problem with the opening video. when I run it outsite Ys (in "data" folder), it worked properly. But when I start the game and then the opening appeared, it have problem in color... You can take a look in this screenshot: i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w490/Ryuuka_Hinotama/ys_issue_zps3b5e5304.pngAs you can see, this is the opening 2 of Ys II Complete. It have some color problem... But, the opening 1 (when Dalles talk to Darm) run properly. It also has the same problem if I run without DXWnd or any tools (just click YS1_CMP.exe). If anyone have same issue or know how to fix it...please reply! Many thanks! P/S: I use Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).

Let me introduce the successful case running the game in Windows 10 64bit. Maybe this method will work in Windows 7 64bit, I guess. I used dgVoodoo v2.53 copying 3 dlls of Direct3D of it to the game installed directory and setting game exe's compatibility to”Windows XP SP2". Then ran dgVoodoosetup.exe as Administrator to make dgVoodoo.conf file to make these dlls work. Oh! it worked without any issues.
