www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,10816.0.html Or at least use it as a base for their translation. As mentioned in another topic I guess some of the dialog has changed in the PSP version from the PC version

Plus, this totally saves time! More time for a great Trails of the Sky translation!

Pretty awesome move. Haven't heard of a game company doing that before, and it speaks volumes about them as a business. Here's hoping the practice catches on, so that other fan-translators might ALSO be approached by big businesses one day. -Tom I haven't heard of a game company doing it, but I've seen it before with anime. I forget if it was for the Haruhi or Spice and Wolf light novels when a translator for a fan translation project got bought out. I think it's cool too that Deuce at least got recognition for his work. Much better than companies that just outright steal fan translations and reuse them in part or whole

This is all sorts of awesome -- that someone's hard work can be recognized in such a way.
Hope it's a signal to fan translators that they should take their works seriously and put as much effort as they can into them and not put out half-assed crap filled with liberal shit like a certain ToP SFC translation.
I'm still reeling from annoyance about it.

Furthermore, at least now *FALCOM* and *XSEED*, *legitimate companies* make money off of the translation -- we have a chance to support people who actually have a *legal working contract*! I wonder though, if Deuce gets anything for his hard work. He deserves a hearty thanks just as well.

Deuce posted on a forum that he got paid.

Has that happened before?! Because yeah, that seems like a REALLY dumb thing to do. I mean, aside from being immoral and unethical, it's also the sort of thing that seems like it would be EASILY NOTICED, and hurt a company's reputation BIG time... -Tom It happens a lot mostly with dubbing companies in Asia, one of the most infamos being Odex.

Meh, that localization gave proper characterizations in a version of ToP where the deepest character in the entire story is the big badAnd they match pretty well with the deeper characterizations found in the remakes since the SFC version. Deuce posted on a forum that he got paid. I just got this hilarious mental image of Deuce being Balrog/boxer from CvS2, flexing, and saying "I got paid!"

See, this is where those labors of love by fans pay off. Apparently literally. But YAY for Deuce, and yay for XSEED being awesome like that. Also yay that we're getting some stuff localized at long last. XD

Not only is this a pretty cool move on XSeed's part, also saving them time and money (as I imagine whoever they'd normally line up would cost them more), it's also a trend that'd be pretty neat if it continued.
Of course, most of the games that get fan-translated aren't exactly relevant anymore.

Very cool! I thought Oath's fan translation was very well done
Any word on if the US version will have voices yet?

I think it would because apparently, the general public needs English voices in their games. >_> Hey, if they get PROPER TALENT to do the voices, I'm all for it. Pull shit like fucking Ignition and their Arc Rise Fantasia crap or Pokemon cartoon stuff and I might consider snail mailing some rage to XSEED.

I wouldn't mind having some cheesy overacting in my Ys. Actually, I'd love to have that! Seeing as we don't have a new translation to look forward too, I'd set for anything that spruces up the narration a bit.

Seconding wyrd's words here.
Although, frankly-- today in the West, where we actually HAVE a pretty stable selection of talented voice actors doing anime and games, there is simply no excuse for bad voice acting anymore.

Man gratz to Deuce, I loved his work on Oath back when i play the translation for first time. I guess this save the company a lot of work and most of time i prefer fan translation anyway.

At the end of the day even if it's not a great translation (I recently played through the Feda patch and wasn't overly impressed) it's helping more people to enjoy something they would otherwise have no access to then it's worth doing. After all if the only alternative to a poor/average sub is to go learn another language I think most people would take the sub and go to a forum to learn about any major errors.

This reminds me of something. IIRC, the 2 guards that guard the entrance to Solomon Shrine, in 1 version have a whole generation. If you kill them both, the next time you see them, it's actually their son's, & then their son's, & so on until their whole lineage is dead! That might be the PS2 version, I think it is, I know I played thru all that. Any chance of getting that in Chronicles? I don't recall if the Japanese version has that, though, that was a year ago when I played it, so, maybe I'm forgetting?

It can be added (easier with the actual code!), if adding stuff to Zwei!! that was added in the PSP version is anything to go by.
