Were there any systems that you purchased mainly because you wanted to play a certain game on it?
I think the only one I did that for was the GameCube for Tales of Symphonia. Once I was done with that, I got Paper Mario but never finished it. I sold the system to a friend afterwards. XD

Once upon a time I was all psyched up over Star Wars and swiftly went out to go buy an old Xbox and a copy of KOTOR with it. I barely got anywhere in it, then went out and bought Halo because everyone had a huge boner for it. I hated it and it solidified a hatred for all FPSs that has only been diminished in the past 2 weeks by Half-Life 2. I also got Fable for like 6 bucks a few years later. That's the only Xbox game I've beaten. I really need to try and pawn the thing off. It's the only console I feel is absolutely useless to me.
Since then I have adopted a strict policy of requiring a console to have at least 5 games I want to justify the purchase. Retroactively speaking, that never happened before the Xbox, and it certainly hasn't happened since. This is why I only have a PS3 of current-gen consoles. There's ONE game I'd buy for the 360, and maybe 2 for the Wii.

It's the only console I feel is absolutely useless to me. But you can make into a system of PURE AWESOME. My ex has his Xbox (not 360) modded as a media and game emulation system so he dumped a crap ton of videos onto it and has a billion ROMs for various systems on it. ^^; We had much fun watching The Daily Show, Steve Cobert, and Detroit Metal City with it on a nice big TV. XD

I ... suppose I should include my laptop purchases too. Yeah, I know they're not console systems but seriously, the two notebook PCs I have were purchased mainly for games.
Haha. I'm such a lame BIG SPENDER.
HP Pavilion zt1130 - Bought it for Windows XP to play Zwei!! cuz my desktop system sucked hardcore. As for why I didn't just spend $100-whatever to buy a legit copy of WinXP back then, I don't know! Well, the notebook became my main system for a few years so it wasn't COMPLETELY for Zwei!!
Lenovo 3000 G530 - Bought it for Fantasia Sango (Genso Sangokushi in JP). That bloody game absolutely refuses to load up on my desktop system and I have no idea why thanks to the stupid vague error message. I disabled my virtual drive, anti-virus -- just about everything that could trip up the dumbass DRM that's used on the thing.
Finally, my new custom built desktop system that I got about 2 years ago was an upgrade just so I can play most of the modern games. XD
Gods, I am sad. ._______.

Purchasing a system for one specific game is old hat for me. Pretty much. GBC - Pokemon Red (Well worth the money on its own) Wii - Nights : Journey of Dreams (Disappointing. Other games made the Wii worth it though) PS3 - Disgaea 3 (Same old, but still 100 hours of fun. My most played console anyway) 360 - Tales of Vesperia (God tier, but the 360 has been collecting dust since I finished) DS - Pokemon Diamond (Eh. Okay.) PSP - Gurumin (Console sucks, game is awesome) GC - Phantasy Star Online Eps 1 & 2 (Screw Nintendo and their network adapters. DC - Sonic Adventure (I liked this so much back in the day )

I dunno, I usually find if I can see enough games to end up costing more than the console, so it is like, buying my money's worth?
That's my strategy, but right now I'm focusing less on getting another classic console, and buying for what I own.
Because otherwise I'll never play anything!

Well, unless you're one of those optimists who can shrug those thoughts off and just think "cool, I'll get to re-experience a great game made even better!" Anyway... GC: Typical Nintendo stuff like Zelda and Mario, it was worth it. Wii: Same, worth it, especially now that I finally got it hacked PS3: It just has a lot of cool titles, didn't buy it for anything in particular. It's my most played console now, so definitely worth it. PSP: Arrrr DS: Didn't get it for anything specific. It doesn't get as much playtime as my PS3 does these days, but it's been used a lot. There are so many great games on this thing I can't even count them. Also, Nunuu, you finished ToS, but not Paper Mario? I don't mean to be rude, but uh, what in the world is wrong with you? D:

And same game or not I got about 150 hours of playtime out of each version, so the value for money isn't so bad. I'm just a total spendaholic though.

Wii for Smash Bros. Never again. Haha, old chap! s.ucker! I guess for me Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2 (this was before 3 came out) Sega CD - Sonic CD.. actually, no. My neighbors had one and I also wanted it for Chuck Rock, the Streets of Rage/Revenge of Shinobi/Golden Axe multi-CD, and Sol Feace. This was before Lunar Eternal Blue came out. Now I only own a Sega CD for Eternal Blue and happen to have some other games for it Playstation 1 - Final Fantasy VII. I had VII and the demo disc for weeks before I finally bought more games for it. I went with SotN and Megaman X4. Those were good choices. I was sold on the PSX after that. Japanese Playstation 2 - beatmania IIDX. I went through huge IIDX withdrawal over winter break when I didn't have access to my roommate's JP PS2, so I finally bought one in the spring to survive summer break. I owned US PS2 games (DDR, Xenosaga, & Guilty Gear) and a mem card for over a year before I got an actual US PS2 as an xmas gift, but I did own a JP one before a US one. GameCube - Phantasy Star Online ep 1&2. I even owned a keyboard and modem adapter. Once again I had a mem card and PSO for GC long before owning a GC and finally picked one up so I could advance my character on my own. Until that point I was always the lowest-leveled character in our group 360 - Guitar Hero 3 & Rock Band. Senko no Ronde was also another early purchase but more of a sweet reward for finally owning a 360. PSP - Phantasy Star Portable. Surprisingly overtook my DS as most played portable console and got me to start playing portable consoles while at home again. Not bad for a system with "no games" for it. almost got an Xbox just for DDR Ultramix 2 but couldn't justify the physical footprint of the system...

Well, if you have the money for it, more power to you. I'm a miser to the core, so I would probably explode if something like this happened to me. Hm, now I feel annoyed because I'll probably never get to play it. I mean, the possibility was there for a while, but I've given up on the PS3 version being localized by now.

It's basically just La Valse Pour Xanadu. Like, literally, just that one song, and nothing else. With poor audio playback quality. -Tom Quite laughable. (I haven't spelt that wrong have I? It's just a really weird looking word!)

Someone else here is looking forward to Xenoblade? High five! Neat, did you preorder it too? Let me know what you think! Looking forward to it is kinda putting it mildly for me. It's been a longtime ambition of mine to steal Tetsuya Takahashi away from Soraya Saga. ^_~ It seems like a very different sort of game to Xenogears and Xenosaga, in that it appears to be a game first and a story second. But if the amazing environments they've shown off so far are anything to go by, that might not be a bad thing at all. Seeing screenshots and movies, I can't help but feel that it has the potential to be something very special indeed~ Oh, and the soundtrack sounds absolutely magnificent! Even if the game ends up being a total mess, its soundtrack will be one of the best in years if the samples are anything to go by. My only concern is playing a Takahashi game in Japanese. If it's anything like Xenosaga, it could have me reaching for my dictionaries. Though that's kind of fun in its own way!

Your comment sent me scurrying off to Japanese Wikipedia with glee, but it seems to think they're still together. Curses, foiled again! I was actually glad to read that they were still together. The thought of them being married and working on games together is kind of cute. ^^ Though I don't think Soraya contributed to Xenoblade at all.

Seeing screenshots and movies, I can't help but feel that it has the potential to be something very special indeed~ Yep, my preorder's been in for a couple of months now - pretty much ever since I saw that field trailer ( link for anyone who hasn't seen it) The environments look vast and interesting and as if they'll be loads of fun to explore, and the music is 'soundtrack of the year' worthy. Even if the rest of the game is a total failure (and from the reviews coming out of Japan at the moment it isn't) it'd be worth it for those two things alone. There don't seem to be that many comments on the story, other than Shimomura saying that the story script was 'very Takahashi'. Considering this though: It's certainly going to be no FF13. Which is fine, because I don't want the plot to be so exciting I end up rushing through the fantastic environments to move it forward. It's not Saga writing though, you're right, it's Yuichiro Takeda. Either way, I can't wait! Just 5 more days now. I'd like to think I won't be tempted to download it while waiting for my copy to arrive... but I know I'll break almost instantly
