I was excited when I saw the announcement and then looked at the screen shots; wow does it look horrible... Why can't they just maintain the classic Ys style 2D/3D look that has worked so well in previous entries. Ys 7 looks better than this.

Wow, this looks Outstanding!! Nice new music there. I hope they didn't abandon the old score. I was looking forward to new arrangements of the Ys IV classics.

They wouldn't dare. Too many people know where their headquarters is.

I'd better get my backside into gear and finish off Ys IV PCE so I can enjoy all the differences! ^^~

I have to confess to a touch of initial disappointment in the new style, as well. I'd never say "horrible" (that would be a lie), but the graphics and some of the camera angles remind me more of an MMO or classic 3rd person action game.
It still looks friggin' fantastic though, and just because Falcom is changing some of the basics doesn't mean it'll be any less good. After all, they did away with the bump system ages ago, and I feel that was actually for the better. --that and I started the series with Napishtim PS2, so I'm not as attached to the traditional anime-sprite style.

My roommate has a PSP. Ys Seven is actually the ONLY PSP game I own or have played. And it's been since release, but I don't remember any close zooms or over the shoulder shots. Not that there were many in the trailer. I was just commenting on some small stylistic graphical enhancements which are inevitable for a new system. Obvious proof that sprite graphics are dead! But seriously, I DO typically prefer sprite graphics in most games (they certainly age better!); I was just commenting that my first Ys was a break from tradition, so I'm not as attached to that tradition.

Oh my, that trailer was very good indeed! I wasn't too fond of the techno-esque tone of the music early on, but it was pleasant to listen to as the trailer went on.
