I still need to get Blue Dragon sometime. The demo seemed okay, and I could use a traditional JRPG for once.

Blue Dragon is the bastard love child of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger, except it is really easy.
If anything, snag the roarsome soundtrack.

Mistwalker does kick ass. I can't wait for the new Wii RPG they are cooking up. It's going to be a good one!

Considering that it using a turn-based system basically removes any chance of it being really fun, the fact that Blue Dragon is easy doesn't deter me at all.

What? You're weird Muta I love turned based, ATB scares me.

I don't like ATB either, but I don't find turn-based systems particularly exciting. I'm a twitch gamer who would buy every DMC clone in existence if he could, after all.

Still playing Eternal Sonata. A really enjoyable and fun mix of 'turn based' and real time combat. nom nom

Been back in the Capcom VS SNK 2 swing since they put the machine into campus arcade...keep rockin' baby!
Turn-based is kinda getting boring to me too, unless it has a "twist" to it to make it more than just staring at numbers (Shadow Hearts for example).

Shadow Hearts kicked ass! Same with Koudelka!
That judgment wheel thing kept the game really fresh.

wait wait wait
FF 13 sucks because it is soulless and linear.
Shadow Hearts sucks because the dungeons have "forks" up on "Forks".
I don't get it.

Well that was kind of done on purpose. I see how it wouldn't work in Shadow Hearts though.

The mere concept of forks-in-the-road isn't bad... but several of the dungeons in Shadow Hearts 2 especially consisted of IDENTICAL-LOOKING SCREENS that were nothing but a fork in the road... and whichever path you took, all you'd get was another identical-looking screen with another fork in the road. It was absolutely OBNOXIOUS, and there were at least two dungeons in the game that were based ENTIRELY around this concept (the subway tunnels or whatever they were, and that mountaintop dungeon with all the torii gates). Uh, the subway tunnels were incredibly easy and weren't very long to begin with. And man, you can always manually map things out like back in the good old days. :P Boy, will you ever hate the Constellarium dungeon in Arcturus!! I swear, the compass is NO help at all since the layout is NONSENICAL. It's almost like you're teleporting everywhere. Or maybe it does make sense but I was just never where I thought I was. ^^ I had to map that thing to death and even then it took a while to make sense of what I drew. ^^;;;

So I'm playing Community Pom. The game is very awesome! So far, here's what I got: - Maggot, Level 5! - Tree Dungeon! - Fire Magic! - Killed Watermelon! - Mushroom Dungeon! - Ice Magic! - Killed Sheep-eater! - Rescued Alyssa! - Returned to town! - Learned how to save the game! So far, pretty wacky, and easy-ish so far (Though I was definitely on the brink of death earlier!) but impressive. It's very much what Secret of Mana *could've* and *should've* been, in terms of gameplay.

I never did that, even back in the old days. If I had to map things out on paper, they weren't worth playing. Either give me an in-game map, or make it easy enough to map things in my head. (: Lazy. :B Picky. :BB Well, if you ever play Estpolis, be glad to know the dungeon designs are pretty simple with very logical layouts. So far, they're short but they mostly consist of not-too-difficult puzzles. (They're not too difficult because I can figure them out without looking up solutions online. And I am usually TEH DUMB when it comes to puzzle solving. However, that's not to say that I get them in one go since obstructions or constantly falling into lava or off a bridge tends to hinder things. ^^) Yeah, it was just the feeling! I mean, if I exit west from one room, why the hell am I at the northern tip of the next room that looks exactly the same as the last one except with different exit points!?

I can't stand that kind of obnoxious puzzles in games with random encounters. Otherwise they're just a minor hurdle.

So kind of like the Treacherous Woods in Xanadu Next? I was fine with that section of the game, myself, but I'll admit, it was probably my second-least-favorite part of the game, right after the Time Crevice. The woods weren't so bad because the room layout wasn't completely arbitrary. There was a center grid of rooms and only if you left that grid did it throw you somewhere else.. and that somewhere else was the same every time so while it appeared daunting at first, it didn't take me long to get used to it. 47,311 on Hard mode in Digidrive. I needed 50,000 for the gold medal on Hard. ;A;

I can't stand that kind of obnoxious puzzles in games with random encounters. Otherwise they're just a minor hurdle. Well, Estpolis doesn't have random encounters -- enemies just pop up on the screen in set places. Still, they CAN show up to knock you off of platforms and stuff. Funny thing is that if you knock THEM off, they'll just reappear in the same spot. 9_9 But if it happens to you, you re-materialize at the last "checkpoint" ... which is usually just a few steps away.

Ys IV: Mask of the Sun ~a new theory~ It started off slow, but then I learned magic. Something tells me most people haven't figured out the Quick, Quick, Mid, Mid, Slow combo -- which has an additional magic hit (which you don't need magic for!) at the end. After getting the ice magic, I can zip my way through areas until I have to cast it again -- and I've been firing ice at enemies off-screen where they decide "hey, I'm gonna respawn here, so keep shooting me for EXP!" until Level 25... and now all of the enemies do just 1 HP damage in this dungeon. I'm at the Flame Mountain now (thanks to Wyrd for figuring out that first Kanji for me) and it seems to be a much better game once you invest enough time into it. I dunno, I might actually prefer this to the originals; it's definitely better than the SNES version. The PCE version, on the other hand... eh, I'll call it a close tie there! I honestly can't wait to see how Ys V came out.
