Well I love Faxanadu but have never played any Xanadu game, I once read that Faxanadu was part of this Xanadu series, or based on them, is that true?
Names are similar at least...

Well, Faxanadu isn't exactly releated to Xanadu. Sure, they are both developed by Falcom. But the US version does NOT say that. Play the japanese version and you'll see. Anyway, Xanadu is, according to me, a boring series. Faxanadu on the other hand, is great. So don't ruin the Faxanadu feeling by trying Xanadu.
This has never really been told, but Faxanadu seems to be a side quest to the Xanadu series. This is not confirmed in any way, though.

I'm pretty sure I saw "Falcom" on the title screen but I could be wrong.

Yeah, it's there. But it doesn't say they developed it. It does that on the japanese version though.
